Youkilis Charges the Mound.
Youkilis charged Porcello! Tossed his helmet at him, and tackled him.
Cabrera got hit by Tazawa in the first. Then Porcello brushed back V-Mart, then hit Youkilis in the following inning. Youkilis came after him.
It was intense. But, they tossed Porcello when I don't really think he meant to hit him.

Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
I don't think the Cabrera HBP was intentional AT ALL.
I think that the brush back pitch to Martinez may have been intentional, but not as in Porcello trying to hit him, just throwing high and inside.
I don't think that the Youk HBP was intentional, either.
But this is what I was talking about in the other thread. If both pitches by Porcello were intentional, what positive did that do for the Tigers? Get their young pitcher thrown out of the game early, replaced by an inferior pitcher...give the Red Sox a baserunner...What was the purpose of it (assuming it was intentional as others on this board have said players should do, although I don't think this case was intentional )? All it did, in this case (if it was intentional), was increase the Red Sox chances of winning. Terrible idea.
Also, I hope that Youk gets suspended.

i'm not watching it....my son is making me watch toy story, but IMO i'm surprised hitters don't charge more often when the pitch goes near their head. Pedroia was hit in the shoulder DANGEROUSLY close to his face in the Yankee series and if it were I, i'd be charging. If you're going to throw 90+ you'd better throw with some control, or you're going to pay. The body...fine. The head, thats another story. did the pitch go near his head?

It hit him in the back. I don't recall specifically where but I'm pretty sure it was near the middle.
Further, Porcello's reaction was certainly not one that would fit with intentionally hitting him. He acted surprised and threw his hands up in a "WTF?" manner when Youk started his mad charge to the mound.
-
Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
The Cabrera one certainly wasn't. The V-Mart one was. But, I don't think the Youkilis one was either and I got to see it live. Porcello was like "WTF, why are you charging me?"
And now, since Porcello got tossed, the game is tied. Shocker.

Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
if he's got his stuff going...with the sox depth now i like the play :) youkilis sacrifices himself to get porcello off the mound.

It's a dirty play and now both he and Porcello will likely get suspended even though Youk's the only one that deserves it in this instance.

Thank god you guys agree with me. When I saw it and they threw out Porcello I was really mad. Especially because the Red Sox analysts were ripping Porcello apart and saying he should get tossed (which, I guess, is to be expected).
-
Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
and now Youkilis' replacement, Lowell, hit's a homer.
Everything goes right for the Red Sox after they charge the mound. Who says karma exists?
-
Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
And the 'roid user, Lowell, hits another homer! **** you, Boston!
-
Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
Lol the look on Porcello's face was priceless. WTF did i do? As he was backing up haha. Lowell with 2 bombs!
-
Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
i guess the new thing in baseball now is to bean the other team before they get a chance to hit you back

Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
Jesus H Allah.....they are analyzing the "brawl" and breaking down the way Porcello ran, the helmet throw. They do better analysis of this than they do actually analyzing baseball. What a pathetic, pathetic show BBTN is.
-
Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
Also..LMFAO at Youk charging the mound and then getting tossed to the ground by the twenty year old. FACE!

I don't know who the analysts are but I'm assuming their former players. Analysis of this sort of thing can be interesting and it IS where the value of having former players comes into play. They can analyze these sort of things and do it well. They suck at analyzing players, and shouldn't.

kruk was one..dunno the other..but it sucked royally. one of the worst things i've seen on espn and that is saying something.

Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
It was Eric Young. Oh and Youk looked like Richie Sexson from last year.
-
Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
Mitch Williams and Joe Magrane are ripping Youkilis apart. And the umpires for tossing Porcello.

And they are absolutely right. There is now way that Porcello should have been thrown out. The only reason was because he was involved in it.

yeah, I'm watching it now.
Porcello didn't run to the 3B side where Inge and the dugout was, who gives a ****? Nobody is thinking about that when they have a ML player charging at them.

LOL.
Okay, I take back my comment that said "They can analyze these sort of things and do it well." John Kruk can't analyze anything well except his dinner plate.

Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
i've only seen highlights and can't draw "intent" from it but most every radio station personality from ESPN, YES, WFAN, WEEI all seem to agree it was intentional by Porcello??
I do agree with the assessment that Porcello should have drifted towards his bench. The comment regarding "who thinks about that when being charged" is misguided IMO. I think its a natural reaction to move towards your safety net when being charged.
Where was the 1B? One interesting assessment by ESPN & WEEI showed that the 3B and SS were very quick to react (as if they suspected it might happen because they knew the pitcher was trying to hit Yuke) yet the 1B and catcher was slow. If he had drifted towards 3rd Inge would have intercepted him. They attributed the 1B being slow to him being a backup who take Cabreras place and maybe he missed a sign and they attributed the catcher to being a bonehead.
Again....i don't know if it was intentional but much of the sports broadcasting world apparently believes it was.

Why would Porcello seek help from his fielders when he showed that he could take care of himself? He actually threw Youkilis to the ground, and landed on top.

lets be honest about it...momentum had more to do with it than porcello and that same momemtum continued leaving yuke on top of porcello after the fall. this wasn't of the nolan ryan beating up ventura type moment.

Yeah, they missed the boat on this.
Porcello drifted to first mainly because Youkilis was more or less coming that way, and he was attempting to get into position to defend himself (as opposed to just running away). Keep in mind he's a 20 year old rookie, going towards the bench isn't necessarily going to be his first instinct because he's never been in that situation before. Given the way Youkilis got a face full of turf, I think Porcello took care of business quite well.
It was definitely not intentional. As soon as Youkilis started running, Porcello had his hands up like "WTF dude?!" Avila was slow to react behind the plate because it was not intentional, and he wasn't expecting anything like that. He was actually reaching to get another ball when Youkilis started running, so that gave him a few extra steps.
I don't know why 3B and SS reacted faster than 1B. Probably because Inge and Santiago are quick, and Raburn is not a usual 1B so he's not used to the situation. As far as ESPN/WEEI thinking it's intentional, well, excuse me for accusing them of being biased. I think Porcello's message pitch was the last inning high and tight on Martinez.
It's just total BS because Youkilis charged the mound to get Porcello ejected, and he did. Porcello wouldn't have gotten ejected if Youkilis hadn't charged the mound. I just hope Porcello doesn't get suspended for basically handling his business when Youkilis charged out there like a *****.

yes, and then yuke rolled on top of porcello. it was mostly momentum involved in both accounts. nice clip which cuts off just as they land
anyhow.....its weird how even WFAN hosts today are saying it was clearly intentional, i heard it on YES last night as well and so many in here think it wasn't. I'm not saying he was hit intionally...i don't know nor care, i'm just stating that its weird the differing opinions.

Re: Youkilis Charges the Mound.
I hope Beckett hits someone tonight like Adam Everett so he can charge the mound and get Beckett ejected. Apparently, having some bald ******* attack you is now against MLB rules.
