Yep, and Will Clark was the man.
I should have known this, and I admit I had to look it up.
Ned Garver went 20-12 for the last place St Louis Browns (52-102) in 1951. Of course, that was also the Year of The Midget in St Louis.
Carlton would have likely duplicated the feat in 1972, had it not been for the players strike. That probably cost the last place Phils a 100 loss season (59-97), to go with Carlton's 27-10 record.
what record did this team manage to get?
Was it the first team to use 3 different managers in the same season?
Is it the lowest fielding percentage by any team in one year? (.977)
Winningest team in the 60s?
lost the most one run games in a single season ever, 44
Were they the only/first team to have 6 ten game losers on the pitching staff?
more of a question.
what is the closet any player has ever gotten to hitting as many home runs as his team won or lost their games.
the reason i ask, Adam Dunn's year.
the example would be.
If Dunn had hit 50 homers, but the Nationals only won 58 games....he would be 8 games off..
or if the Nats had only lost 58 games, what is the closest anyone has ever gotten?
1962 mets won 40 games
Frank Thomas hit 34 homeruns.
Difference 6
1952 Pirates won 42 games
Ralph Kiner hit 37 Homers
Difference 5
This is pretty interesting to me.
1938 Boston Braves won 38 games
Wally Berger hit 34 homers
Difference 4
How low can we go?
I found another 4... Sosa with the 99 Cubs. I will look for a 3.
anyone on the inverse? home runs equal total loses?
2001 Giants only lost 72 games.
Barry Bonds hit 73 homers.
27 yankees 44 loses, Ruth 60 HRs, Gehrig 47HRs
so no player has ever hit as many home runs as his team won? we got close.
Name the 3 MLB players, two are HOFers, to lead the league in steals and homers in the same season
ty cobb i know
Mays might have
I haven't really been following this thread so i don't know if this has already been brought up. I don't think it has though.
Out of all the Japanese-born players to play in the Major Leagues,
Ichiro has the most hits with 2030
Hideki Matsui has the second most hits with 977.
Who has the third most?
kaz matsui?
and ya, i looked up Mays, he lead in both home runs and stolen bases several times, but never both in the same year.
Cobb i know did, whenever he had his triple crown season in 09....but without looking it up, i don't know who else.
So Taguchi!
It's not Kaz nor Taguchi
kenji
Dave Roberts, he was born on Okinawa
Kudos to SirK
Brooks Robinson won nineteen consecutive gold gloves for the Baltimore Orioles.
Ty Cobb is correct, he won the triple crown in 1909 and also lead the league in stolen bases. There are also 2 more men to have done it.
Jimmy Sheckard in 1903 and Chuck Klein in 1932 are the other 2, with Klein being the other HOFer besides Cobb.
Who was the first Phillie to ever come to bat in the All-Star game?
