Grabow and Gorzelanny might be traded to Cubs
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/0...n-hermida.html
Looks like Halladay is officially staying put according to J.P.
No surprise.
Pirates trade John Grabow and Tom Gorzelanny to the Cubs for Josh Harrison, Kevin Hart and Jose Ascanio.
reds back out of rolen deal
So who's left for the Pirates to trade? There's Duke, Maholm, Doumit, Yates, Vasquez and Capps who make more than the minimum. Yates might go and maybe Capps but that would be it.
i have a feeling Roy's gonna be a Dodger - the NL is weak except for the Phillies - the nucleus of the team is young and there'll be a logjam pretty soon at a couple positions - why not trade them away for 2 runs at a ring? i'd do it
so who do the pirates still actually have
Would somebody please crazy glue this douchebag's lips together? Either that or tell him to STFU unless he's talking to other GMs. Make the media off-limits to him until he actually f**king does something. I know, I know: 20+ hours to the deadline, but given his deadline history, I'm once again not expecting him to do anything. Any reasonably intelligent person can see that the Jays are far, far closer to the cellar in the AL East than they are to the big dogs. With each passing day Baltimore's farm system gets deeper and stronger as they finally show signs of a cohesive plan for the first time since the Gillick days. We all know about the depth and strength of Tampa's system and Boston and the Yankees along with their largesse are showing restraint and intelligence. Which leaves my boys staring at 5th place for the foreseeable future.
"We'll keep Roy and go for it next year." he says. With what??? When you are staring at 5th place and ownership is expressing concerns re: the "financial flexibility" of your ballclub going forward, that is the time to get busy and start making moves which emphasize the farm system and cut costs at the same time. The only way to compete in this division is with a strong, balanced farm system. This one is all pitchers. The position players are few and far between. Baltimore has about a 2 year head start on us and Tampa Bay's been doing it the right way since Sternberg/Silverman/Friedman (with an assist from Gerry Hunsicker) took over, so they've been at it for at least 4 years now. So, 20 hours before a deadline and trading period during which we should've been selling like hopped up traders on the floor of the stock exchange, our GM finds all kinds of time to gab with reporters from coast to coast to coast. Get your thumb out of your a$$ and get going. If he hasn't made one trade by 4:01 pm tomorrow, please that the Tony LaCava as interim GM era begin and send this maroon packing.
Why would they trade Andy LaRoche? He hasnt' even hit arbitration yet.
Pirates seem determined to trade every half-decent player they have. Jeez.
Good lord Royals fans: Bannister, Bloomquist (?), and Teahen are drawing interest. How can GMDM outdo himself this time? Stay tuned...
How about we give you back Ambiorix Burgos and you give us back Brian Bannister :D
Gotta get Burgos out of jail first. The man loves his dominos.
Lets see Benji Molina is last in the Majors in OBP for those who qualify but the Royals already have a catcher that can't get on base in Olivo. Maybe Wily Tavaras. that would clear room to trade DeJesus later on. Or maybe Kouzmanoff or Bonafacio. Click here for the whole list.
Might be a three way trade between Cleveland, Boston and another team. V-Mart to Boston, Buchholtz to Cleveland and I guess the third team will chip in a prospect to Cleveland and get something (Maybe LaRoche) from Boston.

Teams, where do you think you’re going to find a durable veteran left-hander with playoff experience for your stretch drive? Do you think a pink pegasus is going to swoop down next to the mound before your next game and one’s going to step off, already wearing your uniform?
Snap out of it! You want an ace? How about a 2.64 ERA? Two! Six! Four! 5.35 K/9? 2.23 BB/9? Sure, he’s a flyballer, but but he’s only giving up home runs on what, 6% of them? You won’t even get that from your expensive groundballers. You’ll only get that from Jarrod Washburn, available today!
You might say “that sounds too good to be true”. Listen, you! After years of grinding out starts with good-but-not-great stuff, Washburn’s finally found a weapon to match his veteran savvy and menacing grimace: a new two-seam fastball, finally mastered, that makes opposing hitters next to helpless. Have you seen it? Go call your scouting guys, roll some video.
Yeah, nice, huh? Washburn’s been throwing that all year. Roll more tape if you want proof, but don’t take too long — your competition won’t. Why, if he’d figured that pitch out early in his career he might have more hardware than hunting rifles racked up at his house. But then his price would be that much higher as an established name.
Speaking of price. You might be worried what Washburn will cost. Your whole farm system? Two, three major-league starters? Not at all. The Mariners, racked by lowered attendance and freshly dropped from the race, need to build for tomorrow, and they are ready to deal. They’re not asking for some Halladay-like haul, not some Lee-style looting. No! Call now and the Mariners will hand-select a couple guys off the farm system, names most of your fan base won’t even recognize. You know what they do recognize though? Pennants. You want pennants, you want this pitcher.
And if you act now, as a bonus, we’re willing to shore up your bullpen as well. You need right-handed help that can also write a gripping crime novel or poetry! We’ll include one at no extra charge! Or you might prefer a fire-throwing youngster — the Mariners can give you one as well.
And if you call by the trade deadline tomorrow, you’ll get the Mariner Moose! That’s right, the beloved, now parasite-free mascot that makes kids scream in glee and can be used to injure opposing players without consequence can be yours when you call the Seattle Mariners now! Don’t delay!
I love the comment :

Beautiful. I wish that Billy Mays was alive to help you pitch this idea. He could sell anything.
Of course reading this it all would’ve been in caps.
And if you call in the next 20 minutes, we will add the Moose's ATV which is useful to run over those pesky Red Sox
How about Washburn and Branyan and RRS for Murphy and Brad Holt?
Metsguy probably gets a lot of replies in Baseball Mogul that say "The military gets better deals on toilet seats."
Im thinking its like this...
"9:19am: Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel says the Padres wanted Cameron Maybin and Miller for Bell."
Hey, Kevin Towers, a little question I have for you:
Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller were the two prospects the Tigers gave up to get 25 year old beast Miguel Cabrera. What. The. Balls. Do you really think a closer has the same value?
Have fun watching Heath Bell close meaningless games and then bail in 2 years.
Washburn to Yankees?
MLBTR: Jarrod Washburn to the Tigers.
Very interesting move. I like adding Washburn, but the price is important. If Porcello, Scott Sizemore, or Casey Crosby are in the deal, I'll have mixed feelings.
