Mets: trade for someone. Please
u don't want your team to make a move just to make a move.
Branyan for F Mart. MAKE IT HAPPEN GMZ!
I wouldn't go after Carlos Lee...ever....
Andy LaRoche LOL
Fernando Martinez and Jose Reyes for Andy LaRoche! Make it happen Minaya!
I wonder if Branyan gets dealt if he would still come back to Seattle for a discount because of GMZ...My mind tells me 'no' but my heart says 'yes'! Seriously though, I'm leaning toward yes.
being more than 10 games back at the deadline, with three teams ahead of you, and like five teams ahead of you in WC meands your team is likely a seller at this point. The Mets do not need to be aggressive by adding payroll. I wouldn't say the season is a wash...but they would be better off unloading unecessary future contracts for my specs rather than doing the opposite, their chances of the playoffs this year are too slim to be aggressive.
you are 10.5 back in your division, with the lead team buying big time.
you may be 6 back in W.C....which is a lot....but you are also the 8th team in that standing back.
making a move for someone like Dunn whose WAR would not be worth you giving up whatever specs you might still have.
it would not be wise, simply bc your chances are so slim. if you can get a non-rental pick up, maybe....but it would have to be a position player to make a real impact, and it likely wouldn't be a smart move, especially with the choking your Mets have done the past two Septembers....i would love to build for 2010, a year that you do have a real shot.
teams under .500 at the break really shouldn't be buyers unless there is a real shot that they can obtain their own division, you shouldn't buy for WC chances
why.. ruin the future even more emptying the non existant minors????
hea lets add 18 million with Carlos Lee the next what 3-4 years :p Andy Laroche... you aren't serious are you... Johnson... yea you need another injury risk... Willingham Dunn... yea Washington isnt going to ask for F-Mart+ more... oh and btw he is hurt dount think you can trade him even if he IS a minor leaguer and he wont cut it for an interdivision trade.
lol you trust Omar??? Even his OWNER was annoyed with him. Its a streatch for Atlanta to make it by the WC and we even have conceded the division! The mets are behind US and its a stretch WE even make it. Scary to say... the Braves have a better offense (8th in league) then the mets (11th in league) (just barly of course) The Braves have a better pitching staff (3rd in runs given up per game) Mets (9th in league) Mets have given up the most walks in the majors, braves 6th least, K:BB ratio Braves 5th best, Mets 14th. ERA (bad as prime example but ok I still think with other stats) Braves 3rd, Mets 9th. Even the braves who were DESPERATLY looking for a HR hitter and have more than 59 HR!!!
I will give the Mets this... they ahve 86 SB to lead the league and the braves have 36th... second worse in the league :p
Ahead of the mets in the WC teams that are REALLY better
San Fran
Col
STL
CHC (maybe hard to say with them)
Mil (anouther tough one)
Atlanta
and MAYBE FLA but I have no faith in them
BREAKING NEWS: Marlins Going Hard After Heath Bell
FROM ESPN INSIDER:
Quote
The Padres are getting all kinds of hits on closer Heath Bell -- almost a dozen teams have expressed interest -- and not surprisingly, the Florida Marlins have been among the most aggressive teams, reports ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
The Marlins have had issues at the back end of their bullpen for much of the season, and Bell would solidify that spot. The Padres have made it clear to other teams that while they are not intent on moving Bell, they will be willing to make a trade if somebody makes an aggressive offer that can help the San Diego organization in the long run. Bell, an NL All-Star this year, has converted 25 of 26 save chances, while compiling a 2.01 ERA. Baseball Prospectus
Bell is worth paying a premium "Finding year-to-year consistency from relievers is no easy thing. Enter Bell, in the top 10 in Fair Runs Allowed (which includes a reliever's rates of inherited runs he lets score) this season with a 1.78 FRA, that after giving the Pad people a 3.55 FRA in 2008 and a 1.66 FRA in 2007. In short, he's someone with a multi-year track record for success, and he'd be under team control for two more (arbitration-eligible) seasons beyond this year. As a result, between his relative durability and his performance track record, he's a reliever worth paying a premium to add." - Christina Kahrl

Marlins going after Padres closer Bell — 11:21 p.m.
At trading time, the Marlins often are full of surprises.
They sent infielder Miguel Cabrera and left-hander Dontrelle Willis to the Tigers at the 2007 winter meetings.
They tried to acquire Manny Ramirez at the non-waiver deadline a year ago.
The Marlins are one of 10 to 15 teams pursuing Bell, according to major-league sources, and they're deep enough in prospects to pull off such a deal.
However, the Padres want one of the Marlins' young starting pitchers, either left-hander Andrew Miller or Sean West, as the centerpiece of a multi-player package.
To the Marlins, who traded first baseman Adrian Gonzalez to the Rangers for closer Ugueth Urbina in July 2003, that is too high a price.
A closer was a glaring need for the '03 Marlins, who went on to win the World Series after adding Urbina. But this year's Marlins, who are only two games out in the National League wild-card race, also could improve by adding a starting pitcher or hitter.
Try finding one, though, who is as affordable as Bell.
The Marlins, who opened the season with a $36.8 million payroll, could easily absorb the remainder of Bell's $1.255 million salary, which amounts to about $400,000.
Bell, who turns 32 on Sept. 29, will be under club control for two more seasons.
The Marlins have been using Leo Nunez as their closer with Matt Lindstrom recovering from a right elbow strain.
Lindstrom could return as soon as this weekend. He could return to a setup role if the Padres added Bell.
You should go after the Wild Card if you have a serious shot at it, obviously. You should always attempt to make the playoffs if you have a serious shot.
6 games out with 2 months to go and half the league ahead of you...uh...yeah...good luck on that.
this is more or less what i was implying...their chances statistically are way out there....the rockies and giants are serious contenders and should be buyers, especially with johnson going down for example.
I said it wrong earlier when i said a team shouldn't buy for a WC chance...bc the NL West you could....but not the Mets....too far out to possibly make it...the braves are borderline at best, and right now, are a better team then the mets.
don't misevaluate your own team, which hopefully Minya isn't doing.
Metsguy isn't misevaluating his team. As evidenced by his weird hatred of the Pirates trading away their overpriced veterans for young talent, he believes that teams should always attempt to make the playoffs, no matter how late into the season and how little of a chance the team has to make it, even if that chance is nonexistent.
I think thats why the braves aren't trying very hard to add offense... if we were 1 maybe 2 games out id say you HAVE to do something but if we end the season better than .500 I think we should be relativly pleased. we have a decent core and have a bunch of $$$ comming of this year. Hudson is the big piece comming off and with his 10 million we could add a bat. not sure who but man... if STL cant lock up holliday... he would look nice in atlanta tho it would NEVER happen.
If there's even the slightest chance we can make the playoffs, we need to be buyers.
the nationals have the slightest chance to make the playoffs, so do the pirates.
So if you are buyers and trade all your minor leaguers in real lopsided trades against your favor (We are only a day or so from the deadline) and you miss the playoffs by three games, you are OK? Espicially if the minor leaguers you gave up became at least league average players with their new team and the Mets went back to mediocrity as all the new arrivals left and there was no one in the minors to take their spots?
it would be terribly stupid for the mets to make a buyers trade right now.
Hey, if MetsGuy wants the Mets to be buyers I certainly wouldn't mind grabbing a bunch of their top prospects in exchange for Washburn! After all, he has a lower ERA than Halladay!!!!!! ;) :p
I really wanna play MLB 2k8 but can't push myself to :p
Yonder Alonso has been talked about for Rolen. It may not be true, as long as we don't get Encarnacion. (Alonso would be nice though)
dodgers then rangers, and redsox in the mix for hallday in that order
Daniel Murphy will hit 25 more home runs this year and finish with 32. Book it.
Sherrill to Dodgers?
