Not sure about that. Holliday is really good (He was even more valuable last year when Ludwick broke out), even when you look at park adjusted numbers like wOBA or OPS+ and Holliday also sports the better defense of the two.
Depends on who the others are. If I could trade Ludwick & a B level prospect or two, I would. I doubt Oakland accepts that though. They're probably going to tell every team that they want a package worth a 1st round / sandwich pick and if they don't get any offers they probably don't trade him (I think they will get a deal they like though). Oakland drafts pretty well so I'm sure fans are looking at a win/win.Quote:
....overall, he is better....but not enough to warrant a trade to lose him and others
How about if the M's trade Miguel Batista to the Phillies for Greg Dobbs? M's will pick up half of what is left of Batista's contract and the Phillies get some pitching help.
No thanks. Check out USSM, they have an awesome fix to the situation.
3B : Lopez
SS : Cedeno (Preferably trade for someone better though)
2B : Yuni
All of those guys profile to be at least league average at those positions. Unless the Mariners think they can get someone who plays a different position and convert him to 3B or sees someone I don't as a realistic trade possibility, I'm not a fan of trading for a guy like Dobbs.
HOT RUMOR...
Weiters to Oakland in big three way trade with STL. Oakland also gets Ludwick. STL gets Holliday and a RP. Balt. gets Rasmus, and two top pitching prospects from Oakland.
Here is the story;

Lopez profiles better as a 3B and 2B/3B transition is generally pretty easy. He'll probably be a bit below average, but he should do fine.
Moving Yuni to second would help a lot. He doesn't have the range anymore to play SS so even though I expect him to be below average it would still help to get him away from a premium defensive position.
And Cedeno can't hit which is why I think instead of trading for a 3B they should trade for a SS. Not only would a SS help a lot right now, but unlike 3B where we have Tui, we could really use one for the future.
I haven't looked through personally, but USSM suggest Nick Punto or Jack Wilson as easily acquired guys. Reid Brignac is a guy who would cost a lot more, but he's probably the best of those three. Twenty-three year old LHB SS for TB in AAA who has yet to figure out lefties, but in a stint in the majors showed he can hit righties extremely well and plays solid defense. I'm guessing if they acquire him they could platoon him with Cedeno until he learns how to hit southpaws.
I see atlanta trying to grab holliday but no WAY they pony up the $$$
I don't see Holiday being worth what he will likely cost to most teams....i dunno...someone will overpay for him likely
I am thinking Holliday to the Yanks... they will shed themselves of Matsui and Damon this year, and I am sure find a way to dump Swisher on someone stupid like Wren, then go after Holliday. Gets them younger and boosts the offense (as if they need it) He would be good behind A-Rod... posada's bat wont last forever.
Or the Mets... if they get the balls to fire that Jackass Minaya and bring in a decent GM. If he is still there tho... they wont because he will say #1 Holliday isnt latin and #2 we have out OF all set with Church Beltran and Murphy (who is not an OF'er)
The Twins sure could use him.
Rumor swirling around today is the Cubs acquiring Heath Bell to help the bullpen. It would be an upgrade over Gregg but it seems like it will be hard to get a deal done
Latest Rockies news:
Chad Qualls and Cla Meredith are being discussed. Also, the Red Sox are apparently interested in Garrett Atkins. The Rockies and Sox have had previous failed talks for Holliday and Helton though so we'll see how that goes.
If Atkins is sent to Boston the Rockies will be in need of a reliever...which the Red Sox obviously have plenty of.
Are Capps and Grabow next for the Pirates.
Maybe we can get Wilson from them
+1
i could see this happening if Lowell's prospects of returning are in question AND if the price is right of course. I think the sawx want to keep youk at first. If Lowell is out it means either Green or Lowrie to third or Youk to third and Kotsay or a kid (Bailey/Anderson) and they are not going to go in a playoff run with a kid at 1st or with Kotsay there.
that said...i don't think they will be willing to give up much...maybe Saito, i doubt they'd do Delcarmen.
Atkins isn't worth Delcarmen, imo. He's really struggled this year at the plate which was the big reason he made it to the bigs in the first place. If it happened, I'd be ecstatic but I don't think Delcarmen will even be mentioned.
I could see the Rockies looking to trade for youth because Dan O'Dowd continues to play for the future even when we might be in the midst of a playoff run so I don't know if Saito would be part of the deal.
But we'll see. I don't personally see a deal happening for one big reason: the Rockies and Red Sox never get a deal done.
Also, bye bye Jeff Baker. Rockies traded him to the Cubs today
Nice pickup for the Cubs, kind of...
interesting trade but I cant see that really happening... Braves likly would not take on all that $$$ and I dont see the A's ONLY getting 1 guy for Holliday let along him AND a SSQuote:
The A's could package Matt Holliday and Orlando Cabrera, both free agents after the season, for Escobar, who would step in as Oakland's shortstop of the future.

the more i look at most of this the crazier some of it sounds
Quote:
The Red Sox have liked Escobar for a while, but don't match up very well for a trade.
Jacoby Ellsbury could be a fit, but Boston would then need to find another centerfielder.
Olney speculates that the Red Sox could use their young pitching to engage a third team in a trade, mentioning that Matt LaPorta, Shin-Soo Choo and Corey Hart could be a good fit.
Boston could eat some of the money left on Julio Lugo's deal to give Atlanta a stop-gap shortstop should they deal Escobar.
The Red Sox are not interested in Jeff Francoeur.
If Milwaukee and Atlanta discussed a Vazquez-Hart swap, the Brewers would likely have to kick in another piece.
The Twins could offer one of their many outfielders in exchange for Escobar. Delmon Young might not be enough to entice the Braves, but Michael Cuddyer or Denard Span could be.
The Dodgers would love to add Vazquez to their rotation, but Juan Pierre probably wouldn't be enough given his lack of power.
The A's could package Matt Holliday and Orlando Cabrera, both free agents after the season, for Escobar, who would step in as Oakland's shortstop of the future.
Not a trade rumor, but supposedly Rangers owner Tom Hicks had to borrow millions from MLB
any want glaus and k. greene?
I'll give you both for Jose Lopez
Some rumblings about roy halladay being traded, one of the teams was my cards. Said jess todd and brett wallace for halladay,
