Luke French and Mauricio Robles to the Ms for Washburn
good move for the tigers.
I really like this deal for the Tigers. Luke could stick it as a 4th starter and he's young but he doesn't even throw 90 and his offspeed stuff is decent but nothing special. Definitely a replaceable asset.
Mauricio Robles has a decent arm, but he's a raw lefty starter in A ball. 20 years old. His numbers between A and A+ ball this year:
91.1 innings, 79 hits, 111 Ks, 41 BBs, 9 Hrs, 4.24 ERA
well robles was an outfielder, a converted pitcher...he will take some time. if washburn gives the tigers a good run this year, it's a great deal.
i don't know why the mariners made the washburn move after the wilson move. are they buying or selling"?
But then again, Washburn has been pretty bad this year. A 5.34 tRA* and a 98 tRA+.
Edit: In fact, this is quite a steal for the Mariners. French is basically the same pitcher as Washburn-both pitching wise and talent wise (if not better)-who's 23 and under club control for six more years. Robles has a huge amount of strikeouts and is 20 years old. Lovin' it.
Yeah, I don't buy that at all. He's going from a team with a great defense and a really spacious ballpark, to a team with a very good defense and a fairly spacious ballpark. He'll be fine. Maybe not 2.64 ERA fine, but he should give them quality innings. He's replacing Luke French in the rotation for heaven's sake.
i think washburn has been very solid this year.
Could anyone post his FIP? I can't get fangraphs at work.
And you might want to read this.
And I've watched just about every start by Washburn. He really isn't that good. But you have to look at it like this: you get two months of a 35 year old pitcher who's almost certainly not going to be offered arbitration while French is equal or better in terms of talent and is 23 years old.
French is not equal or better. He's just not. It's certainly tough to expect him to be equal or better this year, as a 23 year old rookie, considering this deal is very obviously about the 2009 season.
And yeah, Dave Cameron thinks it's bad move for the Tigers. Good for him.
Even if the Tigers lose value in the long-run when/if French has a nice career in Seattle (or Robles does), neither is a

Oddly i agree with both you and jeffy.
i see the validity of your point, but frankly dont understand those people who use it to inform the world of every recent development with their bowel movements. (etc)
stuff like like that just makes me go wow thats stupid. this sucks !
which puts me in agreement with Jeffy.

To Twins: Orlando Cabrera
To A's: Tyler Ladenorf
On one hand, I hope the Red Sox get Adrian Gonzalez because his fantasy value would skyrocket, but on the other hand, I don't want them to get him because I want the Rays to make the playoffs.
Theo, Please get A-Gon
Good deal for the Twins.
Red Sox: Don't get Adrian Gonzalez, because you getting him complicates your 1B/DH backlog even more.
All in all, the trade would be good for the Red Sox, but really bad for the players. They really should be focusing on acquiring a catcher though.
