to the 12 that said never: how can you really say never? You can't say never on anything...you are just waiting to be proven wrong, with the ability to never be right unless the world ends
...why?
Not that I really care. Saying that you never want them to play MLB baseball is fine by me (although I'll readily admit to the opposite view, that women should play), I'm just curious about what the problem is.
I'm in agreement with you on the why?
Why shouldn't they be allowed to? If she is good enough, screw it...there was a 17 year old women who was drafted to play pro ball in Japan this past year...why can't that happen here? Hell it could happen in the next five if some of these great softball players decide to focus on getting better in baseball...or if that was a girl's dream to do it
Just because really. I don't have any reason other than I would personally rather keep it men only.
some would (not necessarily you) call that sexist. it's like those that didn't want Jackie Robinson on the field because he wasn't white...it's very similar if you think about it. You are used to it being this way...and many people don't seem to want to want to accept that possible change. I am not calling you a sexiest or anything, or trying to really compare you individually...but the idea is similar. Keeping it men only, is like saying foreigners can't play, or that blacks can't play etc etc....if you are good enough for the Major Leagues, then you have every right to try out for a team, and if you are good enough and can make it...more power to you, you just made the game better by simply being a part of it.
Please don't take that as an attack tang. But that is simply how I feel on the subject.
Yeah, excuse me for calling it sexist if your reason is "because I don't want them to."
See, that's the whole thing right there to me.Quote:

If it makes the game better (by widening the player pool), what's the problem, really?
The "sexism" angle never really plays into it for me. I do think that is one possible angle to the issue, but it's tangential to simply increasing the possible player pool to me...
It's just a personal preference. If I had to choose between watching baseball played by men or women I would choose men.
Honestly, if someone came to me and said "the decision on whether or not women are allowed to play baseball is up to you" I would let them. It's just a personal preference that I would enjoy baseball being played by men only.
That's fine to me, really. I just don't understand why is all.
If the potential player pool is 100% larger... what's the real problem?
I like your name, simply because I love cigars :p
Tang: If it's your person preference, then fine. But it will be difficult to give a valid reason as to why they shouldn't be allowed to play.
Let's say a Mariners scout finds 21 year old woman...she is a little (let's say) "manly" but she can throw mid ninties with solid accuracy and is a lefty. Would you not accept a minor league contract to her?
