Seriously, though, I don't think anyone disagrees that on the order of bills, this should be on the docket below:
"The Allocation of Funds for the Study of Nima Toad Farts and Their Effect on After School Programs"
yet above:
"Declaration, Being of Sound Mind, from the People of Texas to Crocker, Inc. Underlining Without Uncertainty that in Fact We, the Noble People of Texas, In Fact do Believe that it is Not Butter"

Re: Lawmakers press the BCS to enact a college football playoff
I was going to post about this earlier.
I'm all in agreement. Not only as a Boise State fan, but as a fan of college football, and as a guy who wants to see the excitement of things like the NFL playoffs be able to carry over to the college game.
I hate this argument (which was put forth by the BCS head guy today), that a playoff would endanger the bowl games, and blah blah blah the tradition of bowl games and blah blah blah blah.
Really, the one argument that completely destroys that bowl game argument is this:
Is the sport not bigger than the individual games?
Seriously, the bowl games only have the tradition and pomp that they have because of the history of the game. IT IS NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. The "endangered bowl game" argument is the weakest argument for anything, anywhere. Down with the bowl games... let's make the sport even better, and bring it into the 21st century. It's similar to media companies following old timey practices and being all up in arms when "money is being stolen out from under their noses" while they, at the same time, hesitate, and often refuse, to bring the economics of entertainment into modern times.

Great point, but you're preaching to the choir :p

That's the thing... the overwhelming majority of fans seems to be in favor of a playoff. Even big conference fans... the only people that hold out are those who are vested in the BCS, money-wise.

Completely AGREE with this.
Completely DISAGREE that it is something that any government (local, state, national) should have anything to do with.

As a libertarian, I agree...
As a college football fan, I'm glad to see some sort of greater force that's willing to pound some sense into a senseless system. :)
Re: Lawmakers press the BCS to enact a college football playoff
The government shouldn't ever be involved in sports...but alas.
From steroids to amateur football championships...there is government.
Fili's quote of the congressman from Texas threatening to pass that bill made me crack up.
It's like children live up at Capitol Hill or something.
"If you don't do this for me, I'm not your friend anymore."

You realize we re talking about Congress here right?
Re: Lawmakers press the BCS to enact a college football playoff
I dislike the government getting involved in sports to, but with this, I thought it was pretty smart. Heck, Congress cant do anything right on the important issues, but if they want to do 1 friggen thing right related to sports, I say have at it.

Actually this is exactly what government should be doing. Since college football is a business the rules should be exactly the same for everyobody. No team or group of teams should be able to get in to the lucrative bowls much easier than any other. So viewing this from the sports perspective it doesn't make much sense for the government to interfere; however from a business standpoint it makes perfect sense.

Not if you believe in a free market system. But then we don't have that anymore in the United Soviet Socialist Repulic of America. :(
Re: Lawmakers press the BCS to enact a college football playoff
The government is ALREADY involved in college athletics in that they allow the NCAA to persist as a tax exempt organization, even while they rake in enormous profits as an organization.
