One of the better players in the game for a while, I'd say hes a legend. At 42 he was still pulling down a ton of rebounds.
Not to mention that, but he's a big humanitarian. He's done a ton of humanitarian work.
I'm so sad to see him go out like this. This pretty much ruined my day.
So, lets all take a moment and appreciate the great career of Dikembe Mutombo

Hall of Famer. His effect on the NBA and the world is so huge, I don't care how his statistics measure up, this guy should be a 100% lock for the HOF.

I don't watch a lot of basketball, but I did know about everything he did and having to retire because of an injury is never something you want to see. He can be thankful for his 18 year career though and be glad he didn't leave fans wondering 'what if' ala Mark Prior.

Mutombo was great, but for some reason. I always remember when he blocked Jordan and did his stupid finger wag, while Jordan grabbed the loose ball and slammed right over him.
Re: Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo
The finger wag was his guilty pleasure. It is much smarter to run down the court to support on O but he just loved to indulge himself in a good waggin'. And you know what, that was his right, as someone who could literally the father of some of the newer people in the league (He is 42 and was posting up against Oden, a 20 year old center)

Mutombo was one of the best defensive Centers in NBA history, he should be in the HOF, people thought twice before going in his direction even in his 40's.

I'll take a guy who doesn't hustle down to the offensive end over a guy who doesn't hustle back to the defensive end any day
