Re: This is the same exact game as 2009.
The game is 'perfect' and has been 'perfect' for over 3 or 4 years. If perfect means a very good baseball sim that is, and will remain, addictive and fun. As opposed to fun but gets old fast.
However, humans being humans, we always want and expect more.
Take the expansion draft for example. Something I've been wanting for a long time and finally have; and that it works very well. But it turns out that its just another way to select your original rosters. Problem is, as soon as you sim a year or two, a lot of it is changed and having done the draft changes very little to the game and the season that follows.
Changing the free agency and other things would make the game better. But BM would still be a very good baseball sim that is addictive and fun. And humans being humans, we would still want more and more.
Personnaly, I would like to see Clay starts working on a basketball sim soon, which is something he used to talk about and has been quiet of for a while. Or maybe some other sport like hockey or... how about a greyhound racing sim! I remember a good greyhound racing game in 1986 if I recall... not much competition there, Clay!... hum, somehow I doubt it. LOL.
Re: This is the same exact game as 2009.
Yeah, that will likely NEVER happen. Between the work that it takes for Baseball and Football Mogul, and the fact that it is only Clay, I don't see how (or why) he would begin another new product.

We've found the culprit. Don't get me wrong, I love football (moreso than baseball), but it's time that Football Mogul gets taken out back & 'old yeller'-ed (sorry Clay)
Re: This is the same exact game as 2009.
Football Mogul is made already. Release a new one every two years and you got cash coming in.
Its basic accounting.
Fixed cost are the same no matter how many games Clay works on (appartment, cpu, software, etc). Even if FM is not profitable (I ignore if it is or not), its subsidising BM by sharing some of the fixed cost. Eliminate FM's cash flow, and all of a sudden, BM may not be profitable. Well, its basic accounting for me (an accountant).
My point is, and this is only my opinion, I think a game developper working alone needs to have more than one title going on at any given time (especially with the pirated stuff out there eating some of the potential sales).
The main problem for football mogul is the Madden's series and the awesome size of their budget.
Re: This is the same exact game as 2009.
That's the thing. This game still provides hours of entertainment for me, too. But it just has so much potential that it is wasting. No one is arguing that the game is bad. We are just saying that although the game has inherent limitations, it is still not progressing.
Even if it is buggy at first, revamped free agency and expenses are so needed and I don't see any reason for not changing it. Seriously. He still hasn't even fixed the problem with not being able to type in expenses
And everyone defending the game is not helping, either. Clay would have no reason to try harder to improve BM10 if people still defend it on the forums and shoot down all criticism.
The main point is this: yes, this game has limitations. However, the game is nowhere near its peak, and has NOT gotten to the point where it would be hard to add anything else.

Nobody shoots down all criticism. We shoot down whining and false statements. Constructive criticism is VERY good. For example, my signature.
I don't see what's wrong with defending the game, especially against falsehoods. Defending it doesn't mean that the game is perfect and doesn't need to be improved.

I don't disagree.

FM has changed even less than BM has. There's no BMO anymore, and I don't understand where his time is going.
It's just that there is so much that he could've done for the new version that he didn't do, even for a one-man company for a text-based sim. And this is extremely frustrating for people who love the game and know that it could be so much better.
..you're actually the epitome of that person.
Re: This is the same exact game as 2009.
Every video game has much to improve. No video game is ever going to be perfect, all you can ask for is a relatively bug free game which is has atleast a few upgrades, but as long as its fun, that's enough for me!

Perfection is not what you want. Because then it is impossible to improve on....

Yes.
Just because it has much to improve doesn't mean that it hasn't been improved.

There's no doubt that I'm frustrated about certain things, but that doesn't mean that I can't look at things rationally. It means that I'm going to give constructive criticism and do what I can to make the game better and correctly document the problems with the game to assist Clay in making it better, because I WANT the game to be better, and ranting and whining about it is going to do precisely nothing.

You probably shouldn't. Just because you are buying (or not buying) his product doesn't mean you should be updated with his daily schedule.

Meaning, there is so much that you wanted him to do, that he didn't do.

Yeah, it could be better. That's why so many people on these forums test the game and give feedback on what they think could be better.

exactly, he nor any other business owner is entitled to details their time and hours of work....I don't. I don't have to show anyone when i work, or how hard (I like to work late nights, less distractions and I tend to get more done.) but clients wouldn't really understand that...they just know I do the work, that keeps earning me paychecks. I can tell pretty clearly that Clay does a good job...but what does it matter how hard he works....he created a product that a lot of us like...if a few people don't like it, that's fine...but you don't have to come on to this forum complaining that you don't like it....just buy it whenever you want, or wait a few years.
I agree with you fili
Re: This is the same exact game as 2009.
Exactly. Whenever you choose to work, that's fine. But the end result should be something satisfactory. He created a good, entertaining game years ago, but what I am saying is that he has done little to improve upon it.

Then you should be the happiest guy of us all.
if you think the 2K10 version is only a little better than the original version, then you have no reason to have spent $30 a year on it, like most of the rest of us have

And I think that that is verifiably false.
