Stupid Announcers and Analysts
Here's a thread for posting quotes from sporstcasters and anchors, and for discussing poor sports analysis, if you want a place to vent about the idiotic things you hear.
Here's a few things I've heard recently:
Wainwright and Carpenter are the 2 best righthanders in the game today, so the Cubs will have problems against the Cardinals this season.
-Todd Hollandsworth, local Cubs TV postgame show
I don't even know who Ben Zobrist is, I guess I need to google it. I guess I should know this stuff...
-Some sports radio guy, local White Sox TV postgame show (later noted on the show that Zobrist is actually from Illinois, "apologies to his family")
-
Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
Even and Joe on the fan[ note i forgot exaclty how they said it so that's why there are no quotes.]
I wouldn't trade a 1st and 3rd for Bolden if it is Fitzgerald I would think about it.

Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
After reading post after post after post after post of 'idiot announcers'
I'd like to challenge anybody to record themselves announcing a game so we can see how it should be done?
Takers?

Sure, send me an amount in real, literal US money equal to Joe Morgan's salary and you're on.

Yeah no kidding, its downright annoying now.

Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
Give me the stats guys to feed me all the stats and all that other stuff that they get and I'll outperform them.

Don't read it then?
If it annoys you why did you even click on this thread, the title was pretty clear as to the subject.
Thats something I have never understood about online forums. Who cares and what does it really matter if people argue, or discuss the same thing over and over. No one is forcing you to read it.

Kind of hard when they do that in the MLB thread too. All I was doing was agreeing with fili.

Because it was in the MLB Talk

Because some of the stuff in the MLB talk thread is interesting. But the 'whine whine, *****, *****, insult, insult' is unnecessary there.
I posted here as a reminder that a thread was created for this

Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
I'm sorry that I want to actually learn something or be intelligently entertained (rather than entertained by laughing at stupidity) when listening to "experts" talk about baseball.
As I said in the other thread, perhaps I (or others) can't "announce" better because we don't have the right voice or the public speaking skills. I'm confident that many of us could do a better job getting basic facts right and not saying stupid nonsense like "The Mets need to examine if they're getting their money's worth from Carlos Beltran. They might be able to do better with someone that provides a little more grit."

MLB Talk = talk about MLB. The things that happen in nationally televised MLB games fall under that category.

But how is it different than real life social situations. You can't make your co-workers stop complaining about buying a second house as a rental (mine did, it was freaking pathetic), or anything else.
Why is it that an online forum should be that way?
Annonymity for the win I guess...
-
Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
Announcer X sucks. As does announcer Y. Baseball-(X+Y)= Greatness

Clearly an online forum is structured . so that posts related to certain topics can be grouped together.

yes, clearly it is structured.

Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
Can't have this thread without the Hawk.
Let's start off with his saying that White Sox players heal faster than other teams players because the Sox have the best doctor.
Or that AJ Pierzynksi hasn't reached his prime yet.
-
Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
Now we're all descending into the purely stupid.
People have as much of a right to complain about announcers as other have to complain about the subject.
Several people have just voiced an opinion that several of you seem to be ranting about announcers "too much" recently. That's all there is to it. If you don't want to hear that then why are you posting at all?
-
Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
Hawk is hands down, not even close, the worst play by play guy ever. Just no competition. The amount of whining, homerism, and other BS that he pulls literally every single game is just beyond comprehension. Absolutely unbearable.
His partner, Steve Stone, is EXCELLENT. It's too bad half the time Stone says something, Hawk is right there to try to argue it or make up some other stupid crap.
-
Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
"Ranting" about announcers has always taken place on this forum. Every once in a while, there's a rash of complaints about it. And the cycle goes on.

no kidding.
The stupid thing about this argument is both sides can use each others arguments against the other.

Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
You know, the whole thing with me, is when you guys come down on announcers, its like telling me the sky is blue every time you guys say something on the topic. It gets repetitive. All I am and have been trying to do is to put yourself in their shoes and see if you can do better. I know that annoys you guys, but seriously, do it if you think you can. We can use better announcers out there for sure.

Being an announce takes more than just knowing things. I've already stated this multiple times:

the thing is, these guys are paid to do a job. Its perfectly reasonable for us to critisize their performance, just as we do when we critisize a player's performance. Its the same thing.

Yep.
The "Can you do a better job?" defense isn't adequate for...well...anything. That's basically saying "You can't criticize anybody in a job that you don't have."
ragecage (and others), you've criticized Congresspeople before. Well, I don't see you doing a better job!

Now I dont mind it if it is a different announcer each time, but when Steve Phillips is mentioned, its like beating a dead horse. Its just too easy with him.

True lol. I realize I beat the proverbial dead horse too on that.
-
Re: Stupid Announcers and Analysts
I can't argue there, as I have only ragged on this topic once before, last season. I am just particularly frustrated this weekend with two of the Giants telecasts being jacked by other networks.

But it's perfectly fine for you to do so if you disagree with what they're doing or think something they say or do is stupid.
It's just idle discussion, most of the time, but, so what?

Not to mention he was a worse GMs than Steve Phillips.

I can listen to those Giants guys all day, Krukow and whos the other one? Fosse?

Kornheiser off on MNF. This guy is not a good announcer.

A good day. He is fine doing PTI, but he didn't transition. IMO, they should only have 2 people doing MNF anyway, but that probably won't happen anytime soon. Hopefully "Chucky" will do a better job.

Oh, and not to mention you have already whined about the said subject in this very thread

Agreed. I like him on PTI but he just didn't know enough about football to fit.
