I think I'll be the first to say it:
Cleveland isn't doing so hot.
:p
I'm gonna try not to bother with the standings until about the 120 game mark. Yeah, every win counts and it's nice that my team is 5-1, but I still believe they'll be battling Baltimore to stay out of the basement in the AL East. It sure is fun to watch the offense (especially Lind) after last year's epic fail with men in scoring position right now though. Snider looks like he'll be a force someday, but I think he's gonna struggle this year. The rotation is incredibly threadbare right now and full of pitchers on strict IP limits for the season and just about any potential SP callup will also be on these types of limits. So, it's going to be "interesting" to see how it all gets patched together (hopefully a quilt that the Canadian or American Quilting Association would rave about and not something a pure amateur like me could come up with). If they can at least make it fun to watch and interesting/compelling, I'll be happy wherever they finish. Really concerned about Janssen and McGowan though. McGowan is out for the season and probably Marcum is too (I would hold him out were it up to me). McGowan and Janssen are attempting to come back from torn labrums and given the percentages against them ever making it back based on the history of the surgery, they might both be done, but it's too early to say one way or another. Happy to have baseball again.
Top of the 5th, Nick Swisher just homered.
Earlier he got a triple.
Cycle??? He's got the home run and triple out of the way.
Swish is one of my favourites, even though he's gone to my least favourite team. Go Swish and go Royals. ;)
Boy, we have under a .200 batting average through 4 1/2 games, that's gotta be pretty damn hard to do. Need a lot of suck and a lot of bad luck there.
Miniscule sample size. Lemme know if your Royals are still hitting under .200 at the end of May (one third of the season). Many teams throughout the course of a season will hit under .200 over the course of 4 and a half games. They're able to hide it because it doesn't happen at the beginning of the season. In fact I'll bet every single team in the majors has stinker stretches like that every year. Don't worry it'll come around.
I'm not worried, it just sucks to watch while it's happening. The number of lineouts we have had so far this year has actually been pretty shocking. It's amazing that no matter how much you suck, you need a lot of bad luck to hit under .200 for 5 games now...and it's happening so far with us. Can't buy a break. It happens.
Very solid wins for both New York clubs today.
Big Blue looking good as well

Well right now I'm concerned with the way the Cubs bullpen is going. Even though its been five games the middle relief has been awful and Gregg hasnt shown me a lot as the closer. They IMO need to put Marmol as the closer because of his lights out stuff sooner rather than later. Lineup has been pretty decent except for Bradley and Lee but Bradley has a good OBP. Starters have been good and I was impressed with the way Harden pitched Fri night. 10 K's in 6 and had good velo on his fastball registering mid-90's. Had a scare when Soto injured his arm but he should be back in the next couple of days. Overall through five games I'd say I am OK with their start.
maybe because you've played one more game. ;)
Yes Im so unhappy five games in not having first. Im happy that Soriano has 3 home runs when he didnt hit his third til May 2nd last year. Im also happy that Marmol closed tonite and struck out Braun and Fielder to end the game. :)
well good :)
I'm happy that Albert is ridiculous, that Ludwick seems to be doing it again, that duncan looks good at the plate, that carp was unhittable, and that wainwright bounced back today from his first start.
Now if I could just find a bullpen, I have looked everywhere, under the coffee table, under my mattress, in an alley, I can't seem to find a bullpen. If you see any, let me know
That April 16 right there, is a preview of what is going to happen ;)
Uhh... not gonna happen. :D
The Royals could not possibly be any unluckier right now.
Rockies are working Chan Ho Park.
Lohse having a big day
and shutout
He looked good today
Jaker why does your sig say Rockies
Royals finally get a little luck offensively and comeback for the win. 3-3 while the offense is in a team-wide slump...I'll take it.
I only saw highlights from that game, but the Yankees had at least two really ugly plays in the infield (at 1B/2B, and SS) that reinforced for me that their offseason strategy of getting more groundballers (Sabathia and Burnett) to go with Wang and Pettitte might not have been the best of plans. On the other hand, not too many groundballs go for homeruns, unless it splits the defense perfectly in a huge part of the ballpark and you have a runner with Emilio Bonifacio type speed flyin around the bases.
Good on your Royals to hang in there and take it to the Yankee bullpen. Looks like Hillman has found his "8th inning guy". Gee, that didn't take too long. Actually...come to think of it one appearance by Farnsworth in that kind of situation is too long. ;)
Rockies pen really blew it today. I'm upset.
LOL:o
SWEPT OAKLAND :D
Two Aces + 2 averageish pitchers + awesome defense = Awesome
I have to say, the Mariners new fielding team makes the games a LOT more fun to watch. Every pitch means so much to the outcome of a game and watching chavez or guttierez cover the entire OF is great fun to watch. Can't wait till Ichiro gets back out there although Cedeno has actually been very good.
A nice little graph, courtesy of Lookout Landing, of what the majority of intense Mariners' games will be like

Nothing like having a bad bullpen surprise you by actually doing well in the first week :p
EDIT : Oh, also, I bet HGM the Mariners would sweep Oakland sooooooo you should probably get me my winnings soon. Twenty-four hours enough time? :D
I only listened on radio (Iowa = no TV baseball zone), but from what they said, the infield was in pretty rough shape b/c of the rain..so that contributed to some bad defense for both teams.
I'm not ready to praise Hillman for anything yet.....him trying Farnsworth again in that role won't surprise me in the least.....he also seems obsessed with starting Bloomquist in RF because __________?
...because he's a scrappy dirtbag full of character, grit and determination. re: Farnsworth - as long as Cruz and Soria continue to excel there's no reason for him to go to Farnsworth in that situation - other than maybe 9 million big reasons.
Despite the conditions, I still think four extreme groundball pitchers when your keystone combo is horrible is...well, frankly nuts.
You would think that was obvious...but you would also think that having Bloomquist (a natural 2B) in RF while having Teahen (more experience in RF) at 2B late in a close game would be a horrible idea...yet Hillman seems to be fond of doing just that.
When it comes to Hillman, I have no faith whatsoever. Farnsworth should be used in the 6th/7th innings in non-high leverage situations...for example, in his last outing he looked amazing...but with Hillman..I'm scared.
You're probably right about the Yanks. If they are gonna have groundball pitchers, they better invest a bit in infield defense. I mean..other than that Gold Glove shortstop of course!!!! :)
Please don't tell me that this is the domain of players and managers. It'll just reinforce all the "dumb jock" stereotypes for me. Please say it's the dumb writers please. How can you be on the field every day and somehow not notice that Jeter is actually a Rusted-Out Iron Gloved SS and that Palmeiro only played 29 games at 1B the year he was selected for the GG. Say it ain't so HGM. Please.
I'm pretty sure it's only the managers that vote for the Gold Glove awards, but HoustonGM will know for sure.
It's managers and coaches, and they can't vote for players on their team.
