Adam Dunn is a terrible player though ;)

HGM: It was probably me who dropped Verlander LOL
I know it was a longshot. That's what I'm trying to catch, is just a temporary boost. I've got several guys hurt that aren't playing, and when the Lastings Milledge pick went down the tubes, I've been just trying to find a temporary spark for the spot. I think I'll be OK when Delgado plays again, Milton Bradley plays regularly again (he did play the last two games), and my final OF pick settles.
Till then, I've gotta find someone, and I don't want to trade any of my pitching, so it's no choice but trying to find a free agent. And free agents are slim pickins right now.
So, I figure if I could just catch a guy that's hot, get me through a week or two until my regulars start producing, it's worth a shot to try out a few.
And so far, everytime, EVERYTIME, I put someone on my team, as soon as he gets there, SLUMP. It's not like 2 out of 3, or 3 out of 4, IT'S EVERYDAMMED TIME. It's bordering on the absurd, it seems so friggen out there.
Not giving up though. I just dropped Overbay, picked up a spot starter for today's game, then will look to catch another FA for tomorrow.
And in fairness, I will post his before and after too. After all, it CAN'T POSSIBLY keep happening.
Can it????:(
EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention. The pitcher I picked up for today is Todd Wellermyer (spelling???) of the Cards. I'm hoping my jinx continues and he sucks too (although the jinx seems to only apply to hitters. I picked another pitcher up off free agency, and he was soon made a closer and has picked up like 4 or 5 saves for me). But the Nats only hope of ever winning a, you know, baseball game, might be for my jinx to work. I figure it's a no lose situation. I'll either get a guaranteed Win and some strikeouts (cause he is pitching against the, well, the NATS), or my jinx will work and the Nats will win tonight. It's foolproof! ! !
OFG, a couple of suggestions.
Drop Emilio Bonifacio. His hot streak is done. It lasted the first 5 games of the season. Since then, he's been utterly putrid - .159/.205/.174, 4 walks to 22 strikeouts. Now, he's not THAT bad, but he's not a good player at this point. The only area where he's likely to help is stolen bases...which leads me to my pick-up suggestions.
There are a couple of enticing options on the market that can help in SB while not being the drag on the other categories like Bonifacio is. Dexter Fowler is one option. Chone Figgins another.
If you want to ride a hot hand, I'd try to grab Jason Kubel or Andruw Jones (yes, i'm completely serious. I grabbed him in another league and would in our league if I wasn't full with outfielders as is).
I would also suggest dropping Matt Thornton. He's not likely to get saves and middle relievers that aren't striking out a TON of batters and providing excellent ratios (such as Carlos Marmol did in 2007/2008) generally aren't worth using in fantasy leagues that don't have Holds as a category.
Guess this should've been in the roto thread, but I'll make this my last post on the subject here. Sorry about mixing the threads.
Jason Kubel is EXACTLY who I was looking at when I picked Overbay. It was between Kubel and Overbay, and, to tell the truth, I flipped a coin.
After Wellemyer's start, I'm going to give Kubel a try for a week, it he's still there. And we can all watch Jason Kubel have the worst week of his season so far too, since that's what's happened in the past.
And has anyone heard anymore on Delgado?? I heard he got a cortisone shot in his hip, but I haven't heard when he might be playing regularly again.
At least Adrian Gonzalez is on fire.
OFG if you ever put Albert Pujols on your team, I will drive to where you live just to slap you
Better do that before the baby comes.
Rich Harden has gone mad!!! He just walked 3 in a row and hit a better resulting in 2 runs coming in without even lifting the bat off their shoulders.
Fernando Tatis still owns Chan Ho Park... :p
Welcome back Joe! You show off that power.
Quick question: what player has the greatest home run to strike out ratio of all time? Min 100 homers
Pedro Feliciano just got walked :p
Learn to position yourself , Yuni...it's your fault that big inning continued >8(
Branyan 4 MVP. Also, GUTIERREZ WITH A 2 RUN BLAST?! WHA!? Every time he hits one I don't expect it, I just expect him to flash the glove and take some pitches.
An interesting Kershaw-Peavy pitchers' duel going down tonight.
Damn you Randy Johnson.
WE NEED RUNS!!
*clap* *clap* *clap clap clap*
HOLY ****! Jose Lopez with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th and bases loaded in a tie game has a FOURTEEN pitch AB and comes through with the walk off single! WOW!
That's it? OFG, tell your team to select someone else, let the Mariners take him, he sucks, he would fit in with N.S.C.S & Miguel Batista. Just trying to help your team out.Quote:
Strasburg is 10-0 with 147 strikeouts and 15 walks on the season and, as Laurence Miedema of the San Jose Mercury News reports, he hit 100 mph in his start last night.
Home Run for Rasmus 1st of his career!!!:D:D
