You're right. They don't got no reason to sign him.

This isn't 2003 anymore. Gary Sheffield has a weak bat and can't field. He's not "replacing" the guy that led the league in OPS.
But, really, where the hell did you get the idea of Raul Ibanez at third base?

Answer the question Darth. :p I laughed when you initially put it, because I remember way back that someone posted a vid of Ibanez trying to throw the ball back to the infield but threw it directly into the ground. That is no arm you want in the hot corner.

Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
Ibanez was the Mariner's 3B at one point in time
-
Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
He has one career game at third base, and made one error in his only chance.
I'd call you something referring to your (lack of) intelligence, but I don't want to end up banned.

Nope, he has only had 1 career game at 3B. You might be thinking about Edgar Martinez.
-
Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
Has Ibanez ever been a 3b?
Yeah, Phillies seem like an odd place to go, especially since they have Stairs. I think the Rays are a nice fit, and have him PH for whoever is playing right, Joyce or Gross, both lefties who don't really hit lefties well.

What's your point? Gary Sheffield can't hit very well, a poor recipe for a designated hitter

To add to what the others said about him only playing one game at third, it came in Kansas City

I think the Rays have enough outfielders/DH's.

WTF he was listed as a 3B in Mogul 2006 or 2007
-
Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
You're listed as 16 too, which can't be true.

I don't know why that would be, nor do I ever recall it being that way...but, see, a diehard baseball fan would be able to type www.baseball-reference.com into their URL bar and look up players before saying stuff about them. (Actually, anybody can do that!)

or you can google a players name and baseball reference is usually the first or second link that has their career stats. And you get mad at me when I get silly with people. :)

Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
If Sheffield does get into the HOF, whose hat will he wear?
-
Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
Tigers should of done this a while ago.

I do.
I doubt he'll make it though.

Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
It just seems like there were so many better players that would be more worthy than he during the time he played.

There are. But he's up there.

Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
On ESPN.com's poll on their MLB page:
Do you think Gary Sheffield is a Hall of Famer?
Yes: 28%
He needs a few more seasons: 35%
No: 37%

Re: Tigers release Sheffield?
I hope Sheffield gets picked up by the Marlins. Hopefully he will play in right field - I have some good seats and was really hoping to get punched in the face by a right fielder once or twice.
Quote:
[E]ven though Sheffield maintained that he didn't throw a punch, the tape shows that he took a full-blown swipe at the fan, before he even threw the ball back into the infield.
