"This is not depression," said Willis, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. "This is something totally different.
"This is something where they saw something in my blood that they didn't like. I'm not crazy, though my teammates might think I'm crazy."
Re: Dontrelle Willis to DL with anxiety disorder
"Dontrelle Willis placed on the DL with 'suck'."
Re: Dontrelle Willis to DL with anxiety disorder
There is a blood test that can detect anxiety disorders, which until very recently could only be diagnosed through psychiatric tests. But of course no one would be given this test without there already being a suspicion of anxiety disorder. Someone would have to be showing symptoms before the test would be ordered. It used to be that they'd have to see a psychiatrist, but this blood test has been shown to have a close correlation with what the results of a psychiatric evaluation would be.

How does this merit going on the DL though?

See KowboyKoop's post.
Re: Dontrelle Willis to DL with anxiety disorder
Kowboy, wasn't this what Greinke had a couple years ago?
Re: Dontrelle Willis to DL with anxiety disorder
I used to have S.A.D. pretty bad a few years ago. Out in public, I would feel like everyone was looking at me, talking about me, laughing at me, ect. That caused come pretty bad attacks, one of which happened at a oncert I went to. I know how bad it feels to think you can't breath and just freak out.
I hope he can snap out of it like I managed to.
(though, it seems odd that nothing like that had ever happened to him while he was pitching in front of people in pressure situation, at leastas far as I can remember)
Re: Dontrelle Willis to DL with anxiety disorder
I don't for a moment think that this has anything to do with his trouble pitching.
But, if he really does have an anxiety disorder, I hope he gets better.

I don't know enough about psychological problems to say for sure, but I think Greinke's was more of a social anxiety/depression disorder...so I don't think it's the same as this, but yeah, he did miss the first couple months of the 2006 season..then went to the minors for the rest of the year. Greinke's issues are/were a bit overblown though, he just needed time to get his head straight supposedly.

Well, only 500 people or so show up at Marlins games so I'm sure there was no pressure at all in Florida.
Re: Dontrelle Willis to DL with anxiety disorder
Perhap he felt the pressure of failing so that why he used to play so good. :/
Re: Dontrelle Willis to DL with anxiety disorder
If I was working, I wish I could get paid and sit on my duff for having anxiety. Its laughable if you consider how many americans are just broiling in anxiety about losing their jobs or paying their mortgage. What a ***** you are Dontrelle.

Based on this comment (and others) I would like to nominate rage as one of the most appropriately named poster in the forums.

What the F are you talking about?
Dontrelle getting paid has nothing to do with anxiety. He signed his contract before the start of 2008. If they didn't put him on the DL and just released him outright, he'd STILL get paid. Instead, he's going to be in the minors trying to work his way back, so I wouldn't say he's sitting on his duff.
And yeah, D-train is being paid a lot of money to not really do anything for the Tigers. What's he supposed to do, donate his salary to pay off Joe Schmo's mortgage? It's capitalism, life's not fair, oh well.
