Yes, Greg Maddux and Fergie Jenkins will both be retired as #31 for the Cubs. Not too shabby a combo if I do say so myself.
Not shabby at all, they are both great! or were, However, I see Fergie as more deserving if I was a Cub fan. Maddux spent more time with the Braves, then again, Nolan Ryan is retired for like 4 clubs. I just am not too sure about Maddux, but I can see why they are doing it
He spent almost ten seasons with the Cubs and won his first Cy Young Award for them. It's a no-brainer. I'm sure the Braves will retire his number as well.
There's no need to have one or the other. Both are deserving. It doesn't happen that often in sports, but a quick search gave me 4 examples: Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey (#8 New York Yankees), Yvan Cournoyer and Dickie Moore (#12 Montreal Canadiens), Adam Graves and Andy Bathgate (#9 New York Rangers), and Pierre Pilote and Keith Magnuson (#3 Chicago Black Hawks). I don't think it would be right to deny one of them the honour, so you give it to both.
Adam Graves' number is retired? Wow! Talk about lowering standards.
Thank god for the 1993-94 season where he played with Messier. The guy's second best season is 65 points in 84 games. humm...
Silly mortals. Jeffy is one of those rare individuals able to post on the internet using his telepathic powers. :D
9 1/2, actually

I just noticed Greg Maddux is also a member of the >3000 K/ <1000 BB club. Pretty exclusive company including his fellow #31 Jenkins, fellow 1995 World Champion John Smoltz (8 BB away from 1000 BB though) and another pair of former teammates on a World Champion: Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling. That'd be a nice 5 man rotation for your all-time team. ;)
Maddux 92-98 was truly something else.
I think he was just being sarcastic :)
EDIT : sort of off-topic, but man if I had to choose a pitcher to become my pitching coach I think it would have to be Maddux or Moyer. Maddux would be the first choice, but Moyer definitely made it work because of his technique and deception/control.
Maddux is without a doubt a hall of famer, I guess I was a bit surprised by this, but when looking at it more....ya if your gonna let fergie do it, then you give it to maddux as well
