Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
Milwaukee Brewers (The Rebuilding Begins)
In 1994 the last remnants of World Series of 1982 had left. Robin Yount had retired, Paul Molitor was playing on another team. After a strong year in 1992 that had them just miss the playoffs they fell off the planet. The Brewers finished 69-93 6th in the NL East. It took them 13 years to avoid another losing season after that. It took 26 years to get back to the playoffs. This diary is an attempt to avoid that fate. To fight the good fight against large market teams and to keep baseball alive and strong in brew city. This is the diary of the 1994 Brewers and beyond.

THE RULES OF THE DIARY
~1.~ BUDGET RESTRAINT: This is rule numeral uno. The Brewers being a small market team will keep within the limits set by the “owner” in the game. If that Budget grows to a level above the midpoint of MLB, the Brewers will not go above that. This means that the Brewers payroll will be in the bottom half of the MLB no matter what.
~2.~ FREE AGENTS: While there is no steadfast rule on FA. I will follow most small market team strategies. I can only sign role players, bull pen support, and no more than 1 expected solid starter in a given year. This includes in season and off season.
~3.~ TRADES: Once again there is no set specific rule, just a general guideline. There will not be an obscene amount of trades during the year. A max of 3 trades can happen during the season including off season. Trades must be either done on the trading block or be brought to the Brewers from another team.
~4.~ RE-SIGNINGS: This is another place where I hope to keep reality in my mind. Small market teams do not generally resign veteran free agents that cost over a certain amount of money. I will follow this rule with Rule #1 in mind. If I can resign a player for cheap and it seems realistic I shall do it. I will not however resign the players that made a big name and a future big contract for themselves.
~5.~ ROOKIES: To keep this diary realistic as that is my number 1 goal, I will not put any player on my mlb roster who is younger than 21 years old unless they have 3 years of minor league experience.
~6.~ COMMISH MODE: I will only used commish mode to try and keep a competitive balance between the teams and the leagues. This may include making trades, releasing people, or creating a sort of rule 5 draft.
GOALS OF THE DIARY:
To entertain myself and others.
To stay with in a realistic budget and environment.
To reach the playoffs before the Brewers did in 2008.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
April 2nd, 1994: A great comeback starts the season right.
The Brewers trailed the White Sox 7 to 1 after five innings and yet rallied for seven runs in the 7th and 8th innings to end up winning 9 to 7. Brewers were lifted by the end of the order including Tom Brunansky’s HR and 3 RBI’s as well as Jose Valentin going 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Jamie Navarro got shelled for 6ER in 4 1/3innings. Angel Miranda got the win and Jesse Orosco got the save.
Milwaukee9 Chicago7
April 3rd 1994: You can hit but you can’t Run.
The Brewers were able to get eight hits today yet only managed to score 1 lone run, in a 3 to 1 loss against the White Sox. Tom Brunansky had another solid outing going 2 for 4. Kevin Seitzer got the loan run off a Greg Vaughn double in the first inning. Cal Eldred struggled early giving up 3 runs in the first two innings but went four more innings not allowing any more across the plate.
Chicago3 Milwaukee1
April 4th 1994: The Comeback Kids?
The Brewers jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the 4th only to find themselves down 9 to 5 going into the 8th inning. 2 runs in the eight and 4 runs in the ninth lead to a 11-10 victory for the Brewers and a series win against the White Sox on the road to start the year 2-1. Bill Wegman started off strong but couldn’t get out of the sixth inning going 5 innings and giving up 7ER. OF Tom Brunansky was the series hero going 3for 5 with 3RBI’s again today. Kevin Seitzer also went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s. Jesse Orosco got his 2nd save.
Milwaukee11 Chicago10
April 5th 1994: Higuera K’s Nine.
Teddy Higuera showed why he was once the ace of the Brewers pitching staff as he turned back the clock tonight. Higuera struck out 9 in 7 1/3 inning allowing only one run. Tom Brunansky’s bat continued to be on fire as he went 2 for 4 with a home run. Darryl Hamilton also had two hits and a run scored to lead the Brewers 3-1 past the Angels today. Jesse Orosco got the save again.
Milwaukee3 California1
April 6th 1994: A stroll in the park.
The Brewers brought together great pitching and great hitting to roll to a 10 to 1 victory today over the California Angels. For the second day in the roll the starting pitching was strong as Rickey Bones went 7 1/3 giving up only a run and scattering 8 hits. The bottom of the order was hot again Jose Valentin went 3 for 4 with 3runs and a HR. Bill Spires went 3 for 3, while BJ Surhoff had 4 RBI’s.
Milwaukee10 California1
April 7th 1994: Offensive firepower leads the way again.
For the fourth time in six games the Brewers offense scored 9 runs or more. For the fifth time this year they won. The Brewers overcame bad pitching once again from Jamie Navarro to win 11-7 at County stadium. Jamie once again got rocked for 6ER in only five innings, not what one wants from an ace. On the bright side Darryl Hamilton scored 3 runs and Kevin Seitzer, Greg Vaughn, Dave Nielsen, and John Jaha all got 2 RBI’s as the Brewers collected 13 hits on the night.
Milwaukee 11 California 7
April 8th 1994: Six run blow up prevents series sweep of the Angels.
After six great innings and 8 strike outs Cal Eldred fell apart in the seventh not getting a single out and allowing 5runs 4earned before getting yanked. It didn’t get better as Angel Miranda threw 2 wild pitches and allowed a few more earned runs. The offense tried included a great game from Darryl Hamilton who went four for five with a run, rbi, and a stolen base. Greg Vaughn and Dave Nilsson both hit home runs.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
April 9th 1994: Costly Homers lack of hitting cost Brewers at home.
Two solo shots from Brian Giles and Manny Ramirez were enough to put the Brewers behind and eventually out of this one as the Brewers lost to the Indians 4 to 2. Bill Wegman pitched well except for the two errant pitches going six and only allowing the 2ER. CF Darryl Hamilton went 3 for 5 with a run scored, while Jose Valentin provided a HR shot his 2nd of the year.
Cleveland 4 Milwaukee2
April 10th 1994: Pitching debacle as Brewers give up 15 runs and 5 home runs.
The Brewers bats came alive today except the pitching gave up so many runs that is was over by the sixth inning. Carlos Baerga and Albert Belle each had two home runs today against the Brewers. Mike Ignasiak did a spot start going three innings and giving up only three runs. Angel Miranda got shelled in his third straight appearance giving up six runs in the sixth inning. On the positive side 3B BJ Surhoff went 3 for 5 with an RBI, Darryl Hamilton got two stolen bases and Jeff Cirillo got a pinch hit home run and 4 RBI’s.

BREAKING NEWS: BILL WEGMAN OUT FOR SEASON!!!!!!
In a terrible break, Bill Wegman’s soreness after his last start was a lot worse than expected as he found out today that he broke his wrist and that it will need surgery. Bill will be out for six months. It will be interesting to see who get’s his spot in the rotation. Some thought it would be Angel Miranda, but he has looked less than average so far this year.
April 11th 1994: Brewers lose heartbreaker in 10 innings.
Home runs help. Usually when a team hits four home runs in a game they win. Unfortunately they were all solo shots. Greg Vaughn, BJ Surhoff, Dave Nilsson, and Jose Valentin all went yard in a 5 to 4 10 inning loss. Rickey Bones gave up four runs in the second but proceeded to put out 12 straight batters making it through six innings. Teddy Higuera came in off missing his last start due to injury going three scoreless innings before allowing a Kenny lofton double that eventually turned into a sac fly from Manny Ramirez in the 10th. Despite two close games with an preseason favorite the Brewers were swept at home.
Cleveland 5 Milwaukee4 (10innings)
April 13th 1994: Brewers pitching kill their chances again!
For the first time this year ace Jamie Navarro had a game. He went 7 innings only giving up 3ER and striking out a handful. Unfortunately a 5-3 lead in the 8th wasn’t enough as Graeme Lloyd gave up one run. Jesse Orosco who had been 3 for 3 on saves suffered from having a few days off as he got slapped around for four hits and 2ER to blow the save and the game. Dave Nilsson had a perfect game from the plate going 3 for 3 with 2HR, 2R, 3RBI, and a BB.
Kansas City 5 Milwaukee4
April 14th 1994: 9th inning Heroics end five game losing streak.
It looked like the loss streak would hit six but pinch hitters and Darryl Hamilton would not allow that to happen. Trailing three to two in the ninth the Brewers loaded the bases with one out. A sac fly RBI from Jody Reed and a two out game winning single from Darryl Hamilton provided joy for all in attendance today. Cal Eldred went 5 and a 1/3 innings before getting into a jam. The Bullpen did not allow a run after that. Catcher Dave Nilsson had another great game going 3 for 4 with 2runs.
Milwaukee4 Kansas City3
April 15th 1994: Brewers fight hard and are rewarded.
The Brewers were in a battle. Both teams were giving it their all making great defensive and offensive plays through out the day. The pitching was solid and in the end it was two special performances that gave Milwaukee the win and the series win. Darryl Hamilton went 2 for 3 with a BB and 2R, while LF Greg Vaughn went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s. Teddy Higuera gave six solid innings to pick up the win, and Jesse Orosco got through the ninth easily to get his fourth save.
Milwaukee6 Kansas City3
BREAKING NEWS: JOHN JAHA ON THE HOT SEAT?
John Jaha has had a very slow start to the year. Jaha who has played every game so far at 1B and batting in the five spot has been off to a terrible start. In 42AB Jaha has only had four hits and is batting only .095. The Brewers manager has stated that in the next series him and Jose Valentin will switch spots in the line up. It makes us think that if he continues to perform poorly we may see BJ Surhoff move to 1B and young Jeff Cirillo get a chance at 3B.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
April 17th 1994: Pitching staff just plain embarrassed.
Ricky Bones 4 innings 5ER. Mike Ignasiak 2 innings 4ER. Mike Fetters 1 inning 3ER. Graeme Lloyd 1 inning 1ER. Final score Indians 13runs 19hits. Brewers 2 runs and 7 hits. Yeah it was that bad. Darryl Hamilton and DH Kevin Seitzer went 2 for 4 with a run each as the only bright spot for the Brewers. If the Brewers are going to compete they need to get some pitching.
Cleveland 13 Milwaukee 2
BREAKING NEWS: GRAEME LLOYD OUT FOR 10 DAYS
RP Graeme Lloyd was injured in yesterdays game. Lloyd pulled a rib muscle and will be out for about a week in a half. In his place Bob Scanlan will serve as the set up man.
April 18th 1994: Brewers blast 5 Home Runs as Milwaukee overpowers Indians.
Milwaukee scored 15 runs in their first four games against Cleveland, today they added 11 more to that total in an 11 to 6 win over the Indians. BJ Surhoff, Greg Vaughn, Jose Valentin, Tom Brunansky and even struggling John Jaha went over the fence in this one. Surhoff had a special game collecting three hits, three runs, and three RBI’s. Jamey Wright started strong through four but was blown up in the fifth only collecting one out and giving up four ER. The Bullpen held strong though to move the Brewers back above .500 on the year.
Milwaukee 11 Cleveland 6
BREAKING NEWS: DARRYL HAMILTON SIGNS EXTENSION AN EARLY SEASON TRADE AND MORE!
The Brewers got to work on improving their team for this year and the future today as they resigned lead off center fielder Darryl Hamilton to a 4 year 11.6million dollar contract (2.9million/yr). Hamilton is currently leading the league in batting average and stolen bases. He is also near the league lead in runs. On the heels of that to make room for the increased budget the Brewers shipped Veteran catcher Brian Harper and minor leaguers OF Alex Diaz and P Joe Slusarski to the Texas Rangers for SP Rick Reed. It appears Reed might get a chance to take Bill Wegman’s spot in the starting rotation. In addition C Mike Matheny and OF Troy O’Leary werecalled up to the roster while OF Turner Ward was sent back to the minors.
April 19th 1994: Solid pitching leads way for Brewers
Cal Eldred only allowed 2 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings and the Brewers supplied enough offense to win the game 5-2 to take the series in Cleveland. Darryl Hamilton continued his april tear going 3 for 3 with 2 runs and an RBI. BJ Surhoff hit his fourth homer of the year. Jesse Orosco pitched another perfect ninth for his fifth save.
Milwaukee 5 Cleveland 2
April 20th 1994: Home Runs Home Runs everywhere Home Runs.
For the second time this year, the Brewers hit five home runs in an 11 to 2 rout of rivals Minnesota Twins. BJ Surhoff was perfect going 5 for 5 with 2HR 2R and 6 RBI’s. Dave Nilsson was also stellar going 3 for 4 with 2HR 2R and 2RBI’s. RF Tom Brunansky also went 2 for 4 with a HR. Teddy Higuera pitched six strong innings only allowing 2ER and picking up win #3 in april. The Bullpen was solid allowing no runs in three innings.
Milwaukee 11 Minnesota 2
April 21st 1994: Ricky Bones throws CG Shutout in a pitchers duel.
For six innings their was more offense in the stands and in the parking lots than in the game as Minnesota’s Eric Milton and Ricky Bones both threw scoreless thru six innings. In the seventh the struggling 1B John Jaha became the hero as he blasted a two run home run which was all the offense Ricky Bones needed. Greg Vaughn added a 2RBI double in the 8th as the Brewers won 4-0.
Milwaukee 4 Minnesota 0
BREAKING NEWS: JOSE VALENTIN OUT FOR A WEEK.
Starting Brewer shortstop Jose Valentin will be out for seven days due to inflimation in his right shoulder. The Brewers will have 1992 NL ROY Pat Listach take his place in the interim.
April 22nd 1994: Rick Reed gives up Grand Slam and 9 runs in terrible first outing.
Newly acquired Rick Reed looked like a good deal when he went the first three innings without giving up a run. After a few doubles and a couple runs he soon loaded the bases and gave up a Grand Slam to 3B Scott Stahoviak. A couple hits later he was pulled. In bright spots Angel Miranda went 5 2/3 innings only allowing two runs. Darryl Hamilton Pat Listach and John Jaha went 2 for 4 and Dave Nielson

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
April 23rd 1994: Bats fall silent in California
The Brewers were only able to get three hits and a run off of veteran Chuck Finley in a 4 to 1 loss against California today. Jamie Navarro settled down after the third but the damage was already done. Navarro went seven innings giving up 4ER. Navarro’s ERA for the year is still around 8 which is unacceptable for an ‘ace’. Greg Vaughn got a triple. Darryl Hamilton got a couple hits, also the lone run, and BJ Surhoff got three walks but that was about it for the offense.
California 4 Milwaukee 1
April 24th 1994: Cal Eldred walks 7 gives up Grand Slam in rout of Brewers.
Cal Eldred continued the up and down steakiness of the Brewers this year as he gave up 7 walks and 6ER in four innings. For the second day the Brewers bats were mostly silent on this west coast trip as they only collected two runs on six hits. Dave Nilsson got two hits and Darryl Hamilton got another run to be among the league leaders in runs as well as avg.
California 9 Milwaukee 2
April 25th 1994: Brewers set Franchise Record and cruise way to victory.
The Brewers set a Franchise record today scoring 19 runs. In a month that has saw them hit five HR in a game twice, they were able to score 19 with only two homeruns. The game saw John Jaha get out of a slump going 4 for 6 with 2R and 2RBI. Bill Spires went 3 for 5 with 3R and 4RBI’s. Pat Listach added 3 runs. And as the month has gone so has Darryl Hamilton putting together one of the best months in Baseball history. Darryl went two for four with a HR 3R and 5RBI’s. Teddy Higuera got the win despite having his worst outing of the year, going 6 innings with 5ER.
Milwaukee 19 California 5
Aptil 27th 1994: Alex Fernandez SHUTOUTS Brewers in classic pitching duel.
Fresh off his CG shutout last start Ricky Bones went seven innings given up only 1 run and five hits. Unfortunately White Sox pitcher Fernandez only needed that one run to get the win, as he pitched a complete game shutout. The Brewers were able to hit Alex collecting 10 hits over the nine innings but left scorers in position five times including the seventh, eighth, and ninth inning. Greg Vaughn and Dave Nilsson each had two hits and Doug Henry gave two innings of perfect relief.
Chicago 1 Milwaukee 0
BREAKING NEWS: RP MIKE FETTERS OUT FOR TWO WEEKS.
Mike Fetters pulled a muscle while warming up in the bullpen in yesterdays game and will be out for almost two weeks. The injury bug has been hitting the Brewers early and often so far and they will be glad to be getting Graeme Lloyd back in a couple days.
April 28th 1994: 9th Inning rally keeps the Brewers above .500
After an average outing by Jamie Navarro 6 innings 4ER, the Brewers found themselves deadlocked with the White Sox. Bob Scanlan who had been pitching lights out lately gave up 2 runs in the eighth, and heading into the 9th the Brewers were down 6-4. The Brewers bats got hot as Darryl Hamilton, Jeff Cirillo and BJ Surhoff all got hits and a couple of sac fly RBI’s later the Brewers scored the third and game winning run of the game. Darryl Hamilton was amazing as always going 2 for 3 with 2BB, 2R, an RBI and a SB.
Milwaukee7 Chicago6
April 29th 1994: Eldred goes eight scoreless innings as Brewers win series
Cal Eldred gave up only five hits through eight innings. He might have had a shutout if he didn’t throw 150 pitches at that point. Instead Mike Ignaskiak came in and finished the shutout as the Brewers won 7-0. Greg Vaughn who is in a bit of a slump hit a HR, and Kevin Seitzer as well as Dave Nilsson both added two hits. Tom Brunansky also added a couple RBI’s as they strolled through the game.
Milwaukee7 Chicago0
April 30th 1994: Another comeback for the ages marks an end to a great first month for the Brewers.
The Brewers came to Texas with Rick Reed starting to face his former team. Rick Reed faired a little bit better but once again was slammed for a grand slam, the third one he has given up in two starts. Reed went 5 2/3 innings giving up 7ER. It wasn’t looking pretty as it was 7-3 Rangers heading into the 9th. That’s when the Brewers caught lightning in the bottle scoring 7 runs and batting around the order. Tom Brunansky was the hero of the game going 3 for 4 with 2R a BB and in the 9th he scored a three run home run and a 2rbi double. Jose Valentin returned to the lineup going 2 for 4. Jesse Orosco gave up a quick home run but settled down to pick up his sixth save.

Brewers (The Good, The Bad, and The Strange)
The Good
Their Record: The Brewers get off to a strong start going 15-11 and are currently in second place. This is well above where most expected them to be.
Best Lead Off Man in Baseball: Darryl Hamilton was easily the best lead off man in baseball. He is batting over .400 and is near the league lead in runs, on base average, and stolen bases.
The Australian Superstar: Young catcher Dave Nilsson has looked like an all star so far and shows no signs of slowing down.
Playing well beyond expectations: SS Jose Valentin, DH/3B Kevin Seitzer, and RF Tom Brunansky all are having great years so far.
Teddy Higuera: The guy has been a delight in the club house and on the mound so far.
The Bad
Power Hitters struggling: It was expected that Greg Vaughn and John Jaha would be supplying the pop in the bats this year. So far they have only provided 7 home runs, and are batting around .230. If they do not improve soon, changes might be made.
The Pitching: While the staff has had it’s positive moments the teams ERA is 5.3 not good. They have allowed 7 or more runs quite a few times. It’s hard to imagine the bats will stay hot enough to keep above .500 if this pitching staff doesn’t improve.
Rick Reed: After coming in as part of a trade to be the #3 or 4 starter after Bill Wegman’s injury he has given up 3 grand slams and has an ERA north of 15.
The Strange
Inconsistency: The Brewers have been the definition of inconsistent. They will go out and score 10 runs two days in a row and then get one run the third game. The pitching will give up 8 runs a few days in a row and then they get a shutout. They will need to be more consistent to stay this strong.
Injuries: The Brewers have had at least a half dozen injuries so far this year including losing pitcher Bill Wegman for the year. Hopefully this trend doesn’t continue.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
May 1st 1994: Not quite enough
Teddy Higuera was not quite himself and soon the Brewers found themselves down 4-0. The Brewers however worked their way back into the game making it 4-3 going into the eighth. Despite a couple base runners that’s as close as it would get as Rangers won 4-3. Higuera went 6 1/3 with 4ER. The offense for the Brewers was absent for most of the day but C Dave Nilsson did provide some life with a 2 run HR while Darryl Hamilton added a hit an a SB.
Texas 4 Milwaukee 3
May 2nd 1994: Ricky Bones gives up 5 in the first as Rangers roll over Brewers
Ricky Bones couldn’t make a third straight great start. The problems started right away as Bones gave up 5 in the first and 7ER total in 3 1/3 before Angel Miranda was set in. Kevin Seitzer scored the lone run for the Brewers on 2 hits. Jeff Cirillo also added 2 hits as well. For Texas Ivan Rodriguez, Dean Palmer, and Juan Gonzalez all went 3 for 5 with 2 runs a piece.
Texas 9 Milwaukee 1
May 3rd 1994: Offense hits on all gears, Brewers split series.
Jamie Navarro started off slow giving up two runs in the first but didn’t even allow a runner in scoring position for the rest of his outing as he went 7 strong. By the time Mike Ignasiak came on it was all over but the shouting. 2B Bill Spires had a huge day going 4 for 4 with 3R and 2SB. Darryl Hamilton went 4 for 6 with 2R and 4RBI. 3B BJ Surhoff and OF Tom Brunansky each hit their 7th Home run of the year and C Dave Nilsson hit his 9th as the Brewers scored 12 runs.
Milwaukee 12 Texas 4
May 4th 1994: Late inning heroics from struggling Jaha give Brewers a big win.
John Jaha has been struggling, and rumors were strong that he is about to go to the bench to allow Jeff Cirillo a chance as an everyday player. Those rumors were quieted at least for a night as 3 for 4 with a huge 2 run home run to lead the Brewers back into and eventually winning the game. Greg Vaughn, Darryl Hamilton, and Bill Spires all added two hits, and Tom Brunansky added his 2nd home run in as many nights. Cal Eldred got knocked around for 7R in 5 innings though only 4 runs were earned as a couple costly errors lead to easy runs. Jesse Orosco came in and got his 7th save in 8 chances.
Milwaukee 9 Cleveland 7
May 5th 1994: Brewers jump out early and cruise to win against Indians.
Milwaukee jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 2 innings taking advantage of unknown Paul Rigdon. Rick Reed went five shutout innings before giving up a 3 Run Home run to Eddie Murray in the sixth. Doug Henry and Mike Ignasiak prevented anymore runs from coming home for the rest of the night. Bill Spiers, Dave Nilsson, Greg Vaughn, and BJ Surhoff all had 2 hits on the night. Surhoff also had a Home Run. Troy O’Leary went 0-4 for the night but gave Darryl Hamilton a much needed night off.
Milwaukee 9 Cleveland 3
May 6th 1994: Eddie Murray continues to kill Brewers as Indians avoid sweep.
Eddie Murray was batting above .500 vs. the Brewers so far this season and improved on that today. His line 3 for 4 HR 4RBI and 2 runs scored as they cruised to a 10-2 victory. Teddy Higuera started off ok but got shelled in the 5th inning and couldn’t even get an out in the sixth as he gave up 6ER. On the positive side Tom Brunansky got a couple hits and a home run. Kevin Seitzer showed a good eye getting 3 walks.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
May 8th 1994: Brewers survive scare and avoid an embarrassing collapse.
The Brewers were up 11-2 after four innings and cruising along until the pitching fell apart. Jamie Narvarro gave up 3 runs in the sixth inning and left with a comfortable 11-5 lead. The real problem was normally solid Bob Scanlan got hammered for 4 runs to make it 11-9 going into the 9th. Jesse Orosco then loaded the bases with two outs when Kirby Puckett blasted a shot towards Deep center where Darryl Hamilton saved the day making a leaping catch bringing back a grand slam and preserving the victory. Turner ward got 3 hits and 3R in his first start. Five other Brewers each got two hits including Jose Valentin who hit his 5th home run of the year.
Milwaukee 11 Minnesota 9
May 9th 1994: Brewers have 8 run 5th inning demolish Twins.
Everyone of the Brewers starting line up had at least 1 hit and 1 run a piece as the Brewers destroyed The twins 14-2. Dave Nilsson hit his 10th HR and Greg Vaughn blasted his 5th. Jose Valentin and Dave Nilsson each had 3 hits. Dave and Greg Vaughn each had three runs as well. Cal Eldred had his best start of the year going 8 innings and only allowing 2ER while striking out 6. It’s the 13th time in 34 Games that the Brewers have had 9 runs or more. They are easily on pace to have a franchise record in runs.
Milwaukee 14 Minnesota 2
May 10th 1994: Jose Valentin goes perfect from the plate as Brewers sweep Twins.
We knew Jose Valentin had potential to be a good player for the Brewers. I don’t think anyone would think he would be this good this early. SS Valentin went 4 for 4 with 4RBI 2R and a HR. Darryl Hamilton added 2 hits 3 runs and Stolen Base to continue a great start to a year. Ricky Bones gave up 4 runs in the 4th but didn’t allow anymore in his 7 innings while evening his record to 3-3. Jesse Orosco came on again in the 9th getting save #9 and helping Brewers sweep Minnesota at home.
Milwaukee 7 Minnesota 5
May 11th 1994: Dennis Martinez goes 8 strong as Brewers get rocked.
Dennis Martinez pitched a gem. He gave up only two hits a Greg Vaughn single and a John Jaha home run in 8 innings. The Brewers picked up a meaningless run off of Mesa in the 9th as they lost 8-2. Indians C Sandy Alomar killed the Brewers from the nine spot going 3 for 4 with a HR and 3RBI’s. Teddy Higuera continues to struggle giving up 6ER in 5 innings. Angel Miranda continues to plead his case for a spot in the rotation as he only gave up 1ER in 4 innings.
Cleveland 8 Milwaukee 2
May 12th 1994: Just enough to get the job done.
The Brewers did just enough to win the game. It started with the first solid outing of the year for Rick Reed who went 6 1/3 giving up just 2ER. Bill Spires, Greg Vaughn, and Darryl Hamilton each had two hits. Hamilton had 2 runs as well. Tom Brunansky tied for the team lead with his 10th HR. And BJ Surhoff added 3RBI’s including the game winning 2RBI Double in the bottom of the 8th. Jesse Orosco came in and got his 10th save of the year in 11 chances.
Milwaukee 6 Cleveland 4
May 13th 1994: John Jaha’s Grand Slam helps Brewers pull within 1 game of Indians for AL Central Lead.
John Jaha’s bat has started to get going as he went 2 for 4 with a HR and 4RBI’s. It seemed like it was not goning to be enough to get the win though. Luckily the Brewers Dave Nilsson pulled some 9th inning heroics as he broke a 6-6 tie with a game winning RBI single to help the Brewers take 2 of 3 from the Indians at home. Jamie Navarro once again started strong but fell apart in the 6th inning giving up 5 in the 6th. He left giving up 6ER and now has a 6.84ERA on the year. The trio of Bob Scanlan, Doug Henry, and Mike Fetters pitched 3 scoreless innings.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
May 15th 1994: Brewers offense stifled as Toronto wins.
The Brewers were unable to even get a runner on base until the fifth inning, yet they still had a chance to win or get back in it later in the game. Down 4-2 in the top of the seventh the Brewers had the bases loaded with one out and BJ Surhoff at bat, unfortunately he grounded into a double play. The team went 5 for 28. Cal Eldred had an OK outing going six innings giving up 4ER on 6 hits. John Olerud and Joe Carter were the difference makers for Toronto as they each went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s.
Toronto 6 Milwaukee 2
May 16th 1994: One Strange day yields terrible results for the Brewers.
It was a weird day to say the least. Toronto only scored in two innings in the game, yet scored 15RUNS!!! In the third after a hot start Ricky Bones gave up a home run and then a couple doubles before loading the bases and giving up a grand slam to Ed Sprague. He was yanked after 2 1/3 Innings and 7ER. Milwaukee battled back to an 8-5 deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh when they proceeded to give up two more home runs including Ed Sprague’s 2nd of the game. Toronto batted around the line up in two different innings the first time that has happened in Blue Jay history. And just to make it a little more weird Blue Jay pitcher Juan Guzman threw a record 6 WILD PITCHES?
Toronto 15 Milwaukee 5
May 17th 1994: Todd Stottlemyre shutouts Brewers finish sweep of Crew.
The Brewers got some hits seven of them but couldn’t score a run as Todd shutdown the crew. Jeff Cirillo continues to make his case to be an everyday player as he went 2-3 and is batting .417 in 48AB’s. Darryl Hamilton had a hit and a SB again today. Teddy Higuera had an OK outing going 7 innings and giving up 4 runs. Doug Henry gave up two more runs even though it didn’t matter. Milwaukee only scored 7 runs in the series.
Toronto 6 Milwaukee 0
May 18th 1994: Three run 9th inning sparks another comeback for the Brewers.
As common this year the starting pitcher of the Brewers struggled early. Supposed ace Jamie Navarro gave up 4 runs in the third and gave up 6ER in only 5 innings. However clutch bullpen pitching wouldn’t allow another run the rest of the game. 1B John Jaha once again showed signs of his bat coming alive as he went 3 for 4 with a HR 2runs and 2RBI’s. Greg Vaughn, Tom Brunansky, and Jose Valentin all had two hits as well including big hits in the 3 run 9th inning to take the lead. Jesse Orosco came in and picked the save once again.
Milwaukee 7 Cleveland 6
May 19th 1994: RP Bob Scanlan gets hammered and turns close game to a rout for Indians.
Cal Eldred went seven innings and only gave up 5 hits. Sure 3 of them were solo HR but as he left in the seventh the Brewers were in it 3-1. Then Bob Scanlan came in and proceeded to give up 5R in only 2/3 innings of action. Scanlan has fallen apart in the last month. In May his ERA is over 20. CF Darryl Hamilton and BJ Surhoff were the only bright spots on the day as they each had two hits and Darryl drove in BJ Surhoff in their lone run. The 2 thru 4 hitters went a combined 0 for 12 today.

BREAKING NEWS: RP BOB SCANLAN OUT FOR YEAR NEEDS TOMMY JOHN SURGERY.
Bob Scanlan had been struggling in May and finally after yesterdays game mentioned the pain he had been having in his arm. It turned out to be much more serious than he thought. Scanlan will be out for the year and may never again be the same. It’s unfortunate. This means Mike Ignasiak will be called back up from AAA. The Brewers may be in the market for some more pitching if they continue to play above .500 Ball.
May 20th 1994: Brewers give up 2 Grand Slams again as pitching staff continues slide.
Well once again the Brewers pitching staff just got demolished giving up 15 runs. Ricky Bones gave up 9ER in 4 innings. Mike Ignasiak gave up 6 ER in 2 2/3 innings. It was a travishamockery. The pitching staff needs to do something or all the offense in the world won’t help. For the second straight day Brewers could only manage 1 runs across the plate. Jeff Cirillo continues to bat almost .500 against lefties going 2 for 3 with the only run as well.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
BREAKING NEWS: RICKEY BONES OUT OF ROTATION, ANGEL MIRANDA IN
After three god awful outings in a row. The Brewers have stated that Angel Miranda will get a chance to pitch in the rotation. Rickey Bones will move to long inning, mop up duty but may get a chance again if Jamie Navarro has a few more cruddy outings like he has been having this whole year. Rumors are circling that Greg Vaughn, Jody Reed, Jamie Navarro, and Rickey Bones are all on the trading block and that the Brewers are looking for young solid pitchers to add to their staff. More on that if it develops.
May 21st 1994: Crew glad to be back at home.
Angel Miranda in his first start of the season showed potential going 5 innings against the White Sox and only giving up 2ER. The Bullpen prevented him from picking up the win as they let it get all tied up at 4. Fortunately the bats lit back up as The Brewers had three home runs including Tom Brunansky’s team leading 11th HR of the year. OF Brunansky went 3 for 4. Jose Valentin and BJ Surhoff both had two hits and Greg Vaughn and Bill Spiers each hit home runs in the victory. Jesse Orosco continued to be a solid closer picking up save #12.
Milwaukee 7 Chicago 5
May 22nd 1994: White Sox Jack McDowell shuts out Brewers wins 8th game of year.
For once the pitching was solid. Teddy Higuera went six innings giving up just 1 ER unfortunately what is becoming more of a regular occurrence the Brewers could not manage to turn 7 hits into a single run. Two costly errors allowed three unearned runs to score as The crew fell today. Darryl Hamilton continues to slump going 0 for 4. DH Kevin Seitzer, Dave Nilsson and Greg Vaughn were the only bright spots each adding two hits a piece. All seven Brewer hits were singles.
Chicago 4 Milwaukee 0
BREAKING NEWS: 2B BILL SPIERS BREAKS LEG LIKELY OUT FOR THE YEAR.
Bill Spiers broke his leg hitting the 1st base pad wrong running out a single in yesterdays loss. The Injuries continue to mount for the Brewers. This is their 3rd opening day roster player out for the year. He joins Bill Wegman and Bob Scanlan. This injury hurts the Brewers almost as much as Wegman’s as Bill was batting a solid .295. It looks like Jody Reed, and Pat Listach will get chances at 2nd, as well as Rookie Mark Loretta who is a little green and just made the jump to AAA this year was called up for the spot.
SIDE NOTE: THIS SUCKS
I don’t have the money to put a lot into my medical staff and I am paying for it. I could really use Wegman as my pitching staff is showing how weak it is. Pat Listach and Jody Reed are both hitting poorly so far so we shall see which one of them or if Mark Loretta can get hot and fill in.
May 23rd 1994: Rick Reed utterly disappointing as pitching cost Brewers series.
Rick Reed may have bought Ricky Bones a chance in the rotation again as he gave up 7 runs in 4 2/3 innings. The game was over before it got going. The Brewers bats got them a little closer eventually getting four runs but that wasn’t enough. Greg Vaughn went 3 for 5 with 2 runs. John Jaha and Tom Brunansky each hit a home run. Brunansky is surprising everyone as he has 12HR this year to lead the Brewers.
Chicago 8 Milwaukee 4
May 25th 1994: Cal Eldred, Dave Nilsson hero’s as Brewers find groove against Red Sox.
A day off is what the Brewers needed. They sent up their best pitcher so far this year and he delivered going 7 innings giving up only 2ER and providing stability in the starting spot for at least one day. C Dave Nilsson went 3 for 4 with 4RBI’s. Kevin Seitzer got three runs on two hits. Greg Vaughn drew 3 walks and CF Darryl Hamilton went 2 for 4 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Hopefully the offense continues to have games like this as their pitching will need it.
Milwaukee 10 Boston 2
May 26th 1994: Three Run 1st all Brewers need as pitching strong two days in a row.
For the first time this year Jamie Navarro looked like an ace going 7 innings and only giving up 1 run. The Brewers started off strong scoring three runs in the first off a three run jack by Dave Nilsson his 11th of the year. After that though the day was quiet as Boston’s Nate Minchey didn’t give up another hit till he left the game. The Brewers got a couple hits after he left. Darryl Hamilton was the only Brewer with 2 hits. Jesse Orosco got his 13th save in 4 chances and dropped his era to 1.80. Brewers look for the sweep tomorrow.
Milwaukee3 Boston2
May 27th 1994: Jesse Orosco blow’s second save of season as Red Sox avoid sweep in extra innings.
It looked like for the first time in a long time the Brewers pitching would put three straight outings together. It was all fine and dandy until Orosco entered the game in the 9th and gave up 2ER while only getting one out. Mike Fetters came in and pitched a few good outs until giving up a big 2 run HR to Mo Vaughn. Dave Nilsson hit a home run for the second day in a row to time for the team lead with 12. 3B BJ Surhoff was the only Brewer to get two hits. Roger Clemens pitched seven strong innings but Rookie Mark Loretta got his first career hit off of the perennial all star. Angel Miranda pitched six strong innings only giving up 1ER, his second straight solid start.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
May 28th 1994: White Sox P Jack McDowell does the impossible against the Brewers.
For the SECOND TIME IN ONE WEEK, Jack McDowell pitched a complete game shutout of the Brewers. What can you say that’s two straight starts against the Brewers and two straight shut outs. Jack McDowell is easily the early favorite for AL CY YOUNG as he is 9-0 on the year with an under 3 ERA. For the Brewers today their wasn’t much positive as they could only nab four hits. Teddy Higuera went 6 innings giving up 4 ER. And the bull pen was solid not giving up a single hit against the sox.
Chicago 4 Milwaukee 0
May 29th 1994: Ricky Bones spots White Sox 4 as Brewers can’t make the comeback.
Ricky Bones was back in the starting line up and once again had problems early giving up 4ER in the first two innings. In his defense he did go 6 1/3 innings in total only giving up 1 more ER. Wilson Alverez the sox pitcher was dominant until the sixth when the Brewers started to make a comeback led by Dave Nilsson’s 3 hits and Jose Valentin’s 2 hits. Sub outfielder Turner Ward came up with 2 runs today as well. The offense had it’s moments but couldn’t overcome the bad opening inning pitching. On the plus side Rick Reed pitched 1 2/3 innings scoreless in relief.
Chicago 6 Milwaukee 4
BREAKING NEWS: BREWERS GET YOUNG PITCHING IN TRADE
The Brewers upset that they can’t find any sort of reliable pitching in their line up went out and got some. The Brewers sent utility infielder Jody Reed and a Rookie league relief prospect go to the New York Mets for the young SP Bobby Jones. Bobby Jones won the #4 spot to start his first full season in NY but has been a headache in the clubhouse. ------(READ D- w/ METS IN CHEMISTRY MOVES TO C+ W/BREWERS). Jones has done fairly well getting 5 wins in 11 starts and posting an ERA around 4.3. With this trade the Brewers have the lowest payroll in baseball.
May 30th 1994: Cal Eldred blows up in sixth, gives away lead and lets Chicago sweep Brewers.
Cal Eldred had been one of the only capable starting pitchers so far this year for the Brewers, today was not the day to have a bad outing. The Brewers jumped out to a 4 to 1 lead early in the game thanks to guys like Kevin Seitzer and BJ Surhoff who combined for two singles, two doubles, and three runs in their first two at bats. Eldred began to falter and the game was locked at 4 going into the seventh when he proceeded to give up four straight hits and three runs before being yanked. The Brewers couldn’t get anything going. In fact after the second inning the Brewers only got two hits. Another said day as the Brewers get swept again in a series in may.
Chicago 8 Milwaukee 4
May 31st 1994: Brewers bats let down some great pitching as they fall to .500
The Brewers will be happy the month of may is over as they fell to 27-27 today despite great pitching from their newest pitcher. Bobby Jones went six innings gave up 2R and only 4 hits. The Bullpen went three scoreless innings including two from Rick Reed. The problem today was Oakland’s Tim Hudson who just manhandled the struggling Brewer offense. The Brewers only score was Dave Nilsson’s HR which now leads the team with 13. The Brewers are 5-13 in their last 18 games and the loss of a decent Bill Spiers bat seems to be hurting more than they would have imagined.

My thoughts on the Brewers so far.
Well I had a hot start in April and early may but have come back down to earth real quick. You already saw me cry and complain about 3 season ending injuries two to my pitchers which really hurt. Darryl Hamilton has come back down to earth in may. Dave Nilsson and Darryl Hamilton are potential all stars. Jesse Orosco has done well as a closer. Tom Brunansky is starting to show his age and might need to start splitting time to be more effective. Jaha keeps teetering between being pulled especially with Cirillo batting so well in his limited action.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
June 1st 1994: Milwaukee loses 12 inning heartbreaker.
The Brewers struggles at the plate became obvious today. They outhit the Athletics 12 to 8 but were only able to manage 3 runs as Oakland finally got the win in the 12th when they scored two runs off of Doug Henry. Jamie Navarro pitched his heart out going 7 1/3 innings giving up 3ER on 5 hits. Graeme Lloyd and Jesse Orosco pitched a combined 3 2/3 innings hitless innings to keep the Brewers hopes alive. Darryl Hamilton, BJ Surhoff, Dave Nilsson, Greg Vaughn and Tom Brunansky each had two hits but just couldn’t string them together in the right order. Jose Valentin was utterly disappointing going 0 for 5 with 3K’s in the loss.
Oakland 5 Milwaukee 3 (12innings)
June 2nd 1994: Brewers bats get some pop as they provide a much needed win.
For the second straight day the Brewers got 12 hits however this time they got the runs they needed from that many hits. It helps when you hit home runs. Dave Nilsson and Tom Brunansky each went yard for the 14th time this year. Greg Vaughn and Mark Loretta each had a couple hits as well and Pat Listach added a couple runs. The pitching was solid as Teddy Higuera went six innings allowing 2runs. The bullpen of Rick Reed, Ricky Bones, and Mike Fetters went a combined three innings giving up only one run. Surprisingly the pitching staff has been a lot stronger during this rough patch.
Milwaukee 7 Oakland 3
June 3rd 1994: Where has this been?
The Brewers bats for the third straight day got themselves 12 hits. This time they even made more from that scoring 9 runs on the day. Mark Loretta hit his first career home run and Tom Brunansky hit a HR for the third straight day. 3B Jeff Cirillo, OF Troy O’Leary, Dave Nilsson and Mark Loretta each had two hits. Kevin Seitzer was calm at the plate collecting 3BB. Angel Miranda picked up an easy win despite struggling giving up 4ER in 5 innings. On a bright spot Ricky Bones came in and pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
Milwaukee 9 Oakland 4
June 5th 1994: Brewers pitching come up big against Royals.
The Brewers were shut down for the most part against P Kevin Appier today they scored all three of their runs by the third inning. Two of the runs came off of Greg Vaughns 7th HR of the year. The other was scored by Darryl Hamilton. Two of the Brewers 5 hits came from BJ Surhoff who was catching today giving Dave Nilsson the day off. Cal Eldred came back strong tonight going 7 1/3 scoreless innings. Graeme Lloyd allowed a 2 out run but Jesse Orosco came in and pitched a 1,2,3 9th for the save.
Milwaukee 3 Kansas City 1
BREAKING NEWS: 1B JOHN JAHA OUT FOR 12 GAMES
Jaha apparently took a ball on the hand in yesterdays game and it swelled up quite a bit. While there is no break or serious injury it sounds like it will take some time for the swelling and soreness to go away. BJ Surhoff will take over at 1B and Jeff Cirrillo will continue to get some AB at 3rd.
June 6th 1994: Jesse Orosco gives up 3 run HR in 9th, Brewers comeback in extra innings.
Bobby Jones pitched seven strong innings and going into the 9th inning the Brewers had a comfortable 7-4 lead with Orosco coming onto the mound. Orosco gave up a walk and a hit before collecting a couple outs. SS Greg Gagne came up and somehow delivered a monster shot to center field to tie it up and take it to extra innings. Dave Nilsson eventually came through delivering a double that scored to runs. Rick Reed pitched the 10th and 11th to pick up the win. Dave Nilsson and Jose Valentin both had 3 hits. BJ Surhoff and Greg Vaughn had two hits. The 13 hits allowed BJ Surhoff and Jose Valentin each to get 3R on the day.
Milwaukee 9 Kansas City 7 (11 Innings)
June 7th 1994: Brewers can’t find the big hit in the 9th, fail to sweep Royals.
The Brewers bats were hot early getting 2runs and 7hits in the first three innings. However they didn’t get another hit until the 9th. Down by 1 With bases loaded and 1 out rookie Troy O’Leary struck out looking and then Darryl Hamilton flied out to left in what could have been another Great comeback. Jamie Navarro was solid going 6 1/3 with 2ER. Graeme Lloyd gave up the game winning run in the 8th. Jose Valentin and Darryl Hamilton each had 2 hits, while Darryl also got his 26SB of the year. Darryl is on pace to break the Brewer record for stolen bases.

3rd Round 62nd Overall: SP TED LILLY (48/89)

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
June 8th 1994: Mike Fetters gets rocked costs Brewers game.
Teddy Higuera pitched six strong innings but the pitch count caught up to him. Mike Fetters came on in the seventh and gave up 4ER in less than an inning of work, and the Brewers just couldn’t come back from the damage. The offence was solid. Greg Vaughn went 3 for 5 with a HR. BJ Surhoff, Mark Loretta, and Jose Valentin each went 2 for 4. BJ added a couple RBI’s. Valentin his another home run. Much like the story goes this year they just got hit around for too long to get the win.
Cleveland 7 Milwaukee 5
June 9th 1994: Brewers pitching stinks its way to another loss.
The Brewers tried five different pitchers today and each one gave up at least 1ER, as all the hits or runs in the world wouldn’t save the Brewers today. Greg Vaughn hit 2HR today as he is starting to find his power grove as he has 10HR on the year. Jeff Cirillo had 3 hits and Mark Loretta added two. It has to be encouraging that the young guys seem to be hitting very well so far in starting roles. It wasn’t encouraging that BJ and Dave Nilsson went a combine 0-9 with 5k’s in the 3 and 4 spots.
Cleveland 9 Milwaukee 5
June 10th 1994: Pitching comes back strong avoids sweep by Indians.
Cal Eldred had his best outing of the year and the Brewers needed it desperately. Cal went 8 innings striking out 8 and only giving up 2 runs. Jesse Orosco came in and got a much needed save as well as the Brewers offense gave them just enough to win. Greg Vaughn continues to get the job done at the plate getting two hits again today. Pat Listach got a triple, and Jeff Cirillo continues to stroke it getting two hits as well. The Brewers stayed above .500 with the win. Cal picked up his 6th win and drops his ERA to 3.8.
Milwaukee 3 Cleveland 2
June 11th 1994: Brewers hit all over Fenway on way to easy win.
For the second straight game the Brewers starter went 8 innings only giving up two runs. This time it was the recently acquired Bobby Jones. Jones struck out 6 and scattered 7 hits. The Brewers offense was on fire. Darryl Hamilton, Dave Nilsson, and Mark Loretta each went 3 for 5. Darryl Hamilton scored 3 runs. Dave Nilsson got his 15th HR of the year. Jeff Cirillo and Tom Brunansky each added two hits and an RBI on their way to an easy victory.
Milwaukee 9 Boston 3
BREAKING NEWS: SP CAL ELDRED SIGNS 3 YEAR DEAL AND OTHER NEWS
Cal Eldred today signed a 3 year 3.15 million dollar deal today. Cal has proven to be the ace of the staff and the Brewers feel like they got a steal getting him for 1.05mil/year. The Brewers payroll still remains the lowest in baseball. In other news struggling RP Mike Fetters was sent down to the minors today. It looks like Mike Ignasiak will get another chance to be a middle inning guy.
June 12th 1994: Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield has way with Brewers
Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield went 8 innings only giving up 4 hits and 1 run, as the Brewers offense could not figure out his pitches. Rick Reed started the game for the ill Jamie Navarro and went three solid innings before giving up 3 HR in five batters to start the 4th inning (Matt Stairs, Andre Dawson, Damon Berryhill). Ricky Bones came back in and pitched 4 2/3 inning of 1R baseball. The Brewers few offensive highlights included a Darryl Hamilton lead off HR to start the game, Mark Loretta’s 2 walks, and Jeff Cirillo’s two hits.
Boston 4 Milwaukee 2
June 13th 1994: Strong pitching a couple big HR’s just enough for Crew.
Teddy Higuera put together another turn back the clock night. Teddy went 6 strong innings only giving up 2ER and K’ing 5. The Bullpen did a great job for the other three innings including Jesse Orosco who settled back down at the closer spot to pick up his 16th save. On the offensive side, the Brewers were lead by 2 big HR’s. Greg Vaughn plastered another one as he now is starting to catch fire. Jose Valentin provided another big one It’s Valentin’s 8th and Vaughn’s 11th of the year. BJ Surhoff was the only Brewer to get a 2 hit day.
Milwaukee 4 Boston 2
June 14th 1994: Key hits get runners home to help Brewers win 3 of 4 against Red Sox.
Usually when your starting pitchers line reads 4IP 8H 4BB 3R it might be hard to win a game. Angel Miranda struggle but the Brewers offense and Jamie Navarro coming out of the Bullpen after feeling ill for a few days made the difference. Jamie pitched great going 4 2/3IP without giving up a run and only allowing 2 base runners. Jeff Cirillo continues to bat great as he went 3 for 5 with 2RBI. Mark Loretta, BJ Surhoff, and Kevin Seitzer each added two hits. Loretta scored 3R. Brewers were patient at the plate as well. Darryl Hamilton drew 2BB and Dave Nilsson drew three walks. All this lead to a nice 7 run game.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
June 15th 1994: Cal Eldred gets 7th win of year against the Twins at County Stadium.
Cal Eldred is showing he deserves that new contract he got today, as we went 7 strong innings only giving up 2 runs and striking out 4. The Brewers clung to the 3-2 lead that they enjoyed after four innings. Neither team could score after that point thanks to guys like Doug Henry and Jesse Orosco pitching scoreless innings in relief. Darryl Hamilton, Seitzer, Cirillo, and Mark Loretta each cracked out two hits today. Darryl Hamilton got his 30th SB of the year and Orosco got his 17th save of the year
Milwaukee 3 Minnesota 2
June 16th 1994: Errors and poor pitching prove costly in 11 inning loss.
The Brewers now lead the league in errors after providing the Twins three free runs off of three errors. The pitching staff didn’t help Bobby Jones wasn’t pitching that strong as he only went 5 2/3 with 3ER. The pitching really fell apart when Rick Reed gave up 4 runs in 1 1/3 innings which the Brewers couldn’t rebound from. Brewers were hitting well as Mark Loretta, Jose Valentin and Tom Brunansky all hit home runs today. Tom B. went 3 for 5 and took the team lead with his 16th HR of the year. Greg Vaughn, Jose V., and Pat Listach each added two hits in the loss.
Minnesota 10 Milwaukee 7 (11 innings)
BREAKING NEWS: RICK REED SENT TO THE MINORS
The Brewers officially gave up on the Rick Reed experiment today. He has shown glimpses of good pitching but needs to get more experience. In his place Ramon Garcia will get a chance to show his stuff.
Reed so far has pitched around 40 innings with around an 8 ERA.
June 17th 1994: Jamie Navarro shuts down Twins in pitching duel.
After just a couple days of rest Navarro was sent out on the mound and delivered his best start of the year by far. He held a shutout into the 9th before giving up a solo home run to David Ortiz. Orosco came in and finished getting the win for Navarro as he picked up the 2 out save. Greg Vaughn provided the only runs for the Brewers getting a 2 run Homer in the 6th inning. Kevin Seitzer along with Vaughn were the only Brewers with two hits today. BJ Surhoff struggled in the series going 1 for 12.
Milwaukee 2 Minnesota 1
June 19th 1994: Bats go cold against White Sox once again.
The Brewers only managed to get 5 hits and 2 runs today against Wilson Alverez and company. Brewers are hitting under .200 against the White Sox on the year. Kevin Seitzer and Jose Valentin got four of the five hits and help account for both runs. Teddy Higuera struggled giving up 5ER in 6 innings. Magglio Ordonez got 4 hits and a HR. Tim Raines and Julio Franco each added 3 hits. In face those three got all 10 hits for Chicago.
Chicago 6 Milwaukee 2
June 20th 1994: Great pitching saves Brewers.
Angel Miranda got the start today and went 6 innings and while walking 5 people he somehow managed to only give up one run. The Bullpen came through not allowing a run, and Jesse Orosco came on in the 9th to pick up save number 19 on the year. Mark Loretta had a good outing going 3 for 4 while both BJ Surhoff got out of his slump and Darryl Hamilton adding two hits a piece. Disappoing 3 and 4 hitters Vaughn and Nilsson went 0 for 8 with 5K’s. For the Sox Tim Raines went an amazing 4 for 4.
Milwaukee 3 Chicago 1
June 21st 1994: Brewers do just enough of the right stuff to win the series against the Sox.
Cal Eldred was back on the mound and pitched decently. Eldred went seven strong and got a handful of strikeouts while giving up 3ER. Graeme got in and out of a jam in the eight, and Jesse Orosco did the same getting his AL leading 20th save of the season. Mark Loretta once again went hot against the Sox going 2 for 5 with a HR. Greg Vaughn was the only other Brewer with two hits. The #1-#4 hitters all scored a run for the Brewers. Tim Raines got two hits again today and 8 for 11 in the series.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
June 22nd 1994: Hot June month for Brewers as Crew continues to pitch well.
While Rick Reed may have fizzled in the Trade to get him, Bobby Jones has not. Bobby Jones went 7 innings giving up only 2ER to pick up the win for the Crew today. The Brewers 13-7 in June so far thanks to great pitching like that and 2 scoreless innings from the Bullpen including another Jesse Orosco save. Jose Valentin was the only Brewer with 2 hits as they struggled from the plate most the game. Darryl Hamilton now leads the AL in Stolen Bases. Of note 4 of the 5 game runs were scored in the first inning talk about boring from there on.
Milwaukee 3 Minnesota 2
June 23rd 1994: Jamie Navarro gets shelled Brewers can’t make the comeback.
After a few solid outings Navarro fell apart he gave up 9 hits and 5 runs in 3 innings before getting pulled. Ricky Bones showed some good stuff in relief going 5 innings with only 1ER given up. John Jaha and BJ Surhoff showed power each getting a HR. Surhoff, Hamilton, and Brunansky each got two hits on the day as the offense showed some life at times but couldn’t overcome Navarro’s poor pitching. Minnesota’s Kent Hrbek went 4 for 4 on the day.
Minnesota 6 Milwaukee 3
June 24th 1994: Teddy Higuera gets a CG Shutout in classic pitchers duel.
Teddy Higuera battled serious injuries for the past two years to get back on the mound this year. Today he accomplished a special feat throwing a six hit complete game shut out of the Twins. Minnesota’s Brad Radtke continues to have some terrible luck as he only gave up 1 run in 8 innings yet still took the loss. BJ Surhoff got a triple in the second and Jeff Cirillo drove in the only run of the game with a sac fly. The two teams combined only had 10 hits and Minnesota lead off man Shane Mack had three of them.
Milwaukee 1 Minnesota 0
June 25th 1994: Dave Nilsson, Pitching comes up big for Brewers again.
Angel Miranda proved why he was put into the rotation as he went 6 scoreless innings before giving up two runs in the 7th inning. Graeme Lloyd worked easily through the 8th. Jesse Orosco got men on the corners in the 9th but held on strong to get the save. Dave Nilsson provided much of the offense going 3 for 4 with a HR tying for the team lead with 16. Jeff Cirillo added a couple hits as well. For Chicago Frank Thomas went 3 for 4 and Robin Ventura hit a Home Run.
Milwaukee 4 Chicago 2
June 26th 1994: Poor pitching early costs Brewers.
Cal Eldred couldn’t find the zone and paid for it as he gave up 6ER in only 4 innings. The Bullpen kept the Brewers in the game. Mike Ignasiak went two scoreless innings. Doug Henry went a scoreless inning. The big news was Ramon Garcia in his first action went two hitless innings only walking one. Dave Nilsson and Tom Brunansky had a couple hits a piece. BJ Surhoff got a couple walks, and Mark Loretta scored 2 runs in the game. Sadly the Brewers offensive production has fallen off the charts scoring almost 2 less runs per game in June.
Chicago 6 Milwaukee 4
June 27th 1994: White Sox poor fielding allows Brewers to win series.
Three errors helped pave the way for the Brewers victory today, but the pitching was just as key. Bobby Jones was once again brilliant going 7 innings and only giving up 1 ER. Jesse Orosco tied the MLB lead in saves with 23. Dave Nilsson provided much of the offense for the Brewers he went 2 for 2 with 2walks he also scored twice including his 17th HR of the year. Darryl Hamilton scored the other run for the Brewers.
Milwaukee 3 Chicago 1
June 29th 1994: Brewers bats continue to struggle as Twins win easily.
Ricky Bones in his first start in a month struggled giving up 4ER in 5 1/3 innings. Ramon Garcia continues to impress as he went 2 1/3 innings giving up only 1 hit. The Bats of the crew were utterly silent except for Dave Nilsson once again getting two hits including HR number 18. Shane Mack and Kevin Maas each hit home runs for the Twins of Ricky Bones. Darryl Hamilton got his 34SB of the year.
Minnesota 4 Milwaukee 1
June 30th 1994: Twins Radtke goes eight strong again only to lose again.
For the second time in a week P Brad Radtke pitched 8 strong innings against the Brewers only giving up 2ER. Once again he has to settle for the loss. P Teddy Higuera was almost as good as his last outing giving up 1 run in 7 innings. Jesse Orosco came in again for his major league leading 24th save. The Brewers offense was able to hit around the metrodome getting 13 hits on the day but only produced 3 runs. All 3 runs were scored by Darryl Hamilton who went 3 for 5 with a HR and 2SB. Kevin Seitzer and John Jaha each had 3 hits as well while Jose Valentin added 2 more.

My 4 Questions on The Brewers at the moment:
To Trade or Not to Trade Greg Vaughn?---The Deadline is approaching and while he is performing well he is not going to be signed next year due to cap issues. I might be able to get an everyday player and a prospect in return for him. I have quite a few good OF’s in the minors. However if I trade him that’s a big sign of saying that I don’t think I can make the playoffs.
Where did my hitting go?---- I was among the league leaders in runs scored and batting average heading into June, and have fallen to the middle of the pack in both. Darryl Hamilton batted around .250 in June and others followed. Only Dave Nilsson and my two rookies Mark Loretta and Jeff Cirillo have continued to hit well.
Is my pitching here to stay?--- It seems like the boys have settled down out there. Sending Rick Reed and Mike Fetters to the minors was a necessity as I had enough let downs with them. Jamie Navarro and Ricky Bones continue to fight for the right to see who pitches their way out a spot in the rotation. Outside of that they have been great lately my 1 thru 4 are keeping me in games and my closer is almost automatic. Jamie Navarro might be on the trading block as well seeing as he wants more money than I want or can give to him.
Kevin Seitzer , John Jaha, or Tom Brunansky?--- My everyday lineup is pretty much set. I have 2 spots for these three players and am challenged to figure out who gets to play most days. Seitzer is by far the best guy at getting on base and does ok against lefties. Jaha has been awful against righties but has done well against the lefties. Jaha also provides a home run hitter when he plays. Tom Brunansky has gotten worse each month and is now batting under .250 yet he is 2nd on the team in home runs. If I take him out I really only have 1 or 2 home run hitters. If I trade Vaughn, Brunansky needs to get his bat going again.
My predictions on the Brewers from here:
I think the pitching will begin to falter and this time the run support won’t be there. I’m hoping to make 1 more big trade before the deadline and hopefully it will help. My team prediction is 80-82 3rd place in AL Central. A nice improvement from the year before with lots of young talent to look forward with. Some player predictions:
Dave Nilsson about a .325AVG 30HR 100+RBI 100+R
Darryl Hamilton about a .290AVG 50+SB 100+R
Cal Eldred 14 wins Under 4ERA and in the leaderboards for K’s
Bobby Jones 14wins around a 4ERA
Jesse Orosco 40+ saves
Jeff Cirillo or Mark Loretta AL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD
IF THERE IS ANY OTHER INFORMATION YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW TELL ME AND ILL BE HAPPY TO SHARE IT! ALSO ANY PREDICTIONS FOR THE PLAYOFFS OR MVP/CY YOUNGS WOULD BE FUN TOO

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
July 1st 1994: Home Runs prove difference in tight game.
The Brewers needed the long ball to win the game today. John Jaha continues his dominance against left handers as he went 3 for 4 with a 2B and a HR. OF Greg Vaughn broke the 2-2 tie and hit the game winning HR in the top of the 8th. Jamie Navarro had a quality start going 7 innings and striking out 7, however Doug Henry got the win surprisingly his 5th win of the year. Henry got in trouble with a runner on third in the ninth and Jesse Orosco came in to pick up the one out save his 25th of the season.
Milwaukee 3 Minnesota 2
July 3rd 1994: Hitting, Pitching come together as Brewers roll at home.
The Brewers continue to be one of the hottest teams in baseball in the last month. Today it all came together as the fans cheered the team to victory. Cal Eldred was lights out going 8 innings with 5K and only 1ER. Ramon Garcia again pitched another hitless inning. CF Darryl Hamilton broke out of his slump going 3 for 5 with 2R and a SB. Jose Valentin went 2 for 4 with his 10th HR of the year and picked up 4RBI’s as well. BJ Surhoff and Jeff Cirillo both added two hits for the crew. Greg Vaughn added 2 RBI’s.
Milwaukee 8 Texas 1
July 4th 1994: Rangers hit 3 out of the park including Grand Slam to take the win.
Bobby Jones had his worst outing of the year today. He started off strong going with a no hitter into the 4th inning. Jones quickly loaded the bases when unheralded Sam Horn hit a Grand Slam. The next inning Bobby Jones a 2 run HR to Juan Gonzalez. Jones finished with 6ER in 5 innings. Ricky Bones gave up 1R in 3 innings and for the second straight day Garcia went a scoreless inning. Darryl Hamilton went 2 for 4 with a 2B and 2R. Kevin Seitzer and C Dave Nilsson each added two hits. OF Tom Brunansky hit his 17th HR of the season.
Texas 7 Milwaukee 4
July 5th 1994: Brewers get 14 hits on way to series win against Texas.
The Brewers hit the ball all over the park collecting 14 hits in 8 innings on their way to a 5-2 win. BJ Surhoff lead the hit parade going 3 for 4 with 2R. Darryl Hamilton had 2 hits and 2RBI and a double. Mark Loretta, Dave Nilsson and SS Jose Valentin all had 2 hits as well. On the mound Teddy Higuera was solid going 7 innings 5K and only allowing a 2 run HR by Dean Palmer. Graeme Lloyd pitched a solid 8th inning and Jesse Orosco came on for his 26th save well on his way to a franchise record.
Milwaukee 5 Texas 2
July 6th 1994: Brewers rally from 4-1 deficit to beat KC.
A big part of the Brewers good record this year is due to a never say die attitude. Going into the Bottom of the 5th The Brewers were down 4-1 and Kevin Appier was dismantling the Crew’s hitters. Then the bats and the team came alive. Dave Nilsson, and Jose Valentin each had two big hits. BJ Surhoff also had 2 hits including 2 big RBI’s to tie the game. Pat Listach got a big pinch hit and scored the winning run off a Dave Nilsson sac fly. 1B John Jaha showed patience at the plate collecting 3BB. Jamie Navarro was hit around early but settled down going 7innings with 4ER and 6K. Jesse Orosco got the save again and now has an ERA of 2.3. Graeme Lloyd brought his ERA on the year under 3 today as well.
Milwaukee 5 Kansas City 4
July 7th 1994: Milwaukee scores 15 runs in rout of Royals
The Milwaukee Brewers had one of their best offensive outings of the year as they scored 15runs on 15hits to crush the Royals 15-4. The stat lines were crazy. Darryl Hamilton 3-3 2BB 4R, Jeff Cirillo 3-5 2R 1HR 4RBI, Greg Vaughn 1-2 2BB 3R HR 2RBI, Dave Nilsson 3-5 2R 4RBI, John Jaha 2-5 R, HR, 4RBI, Tom Brunansky 3-4 2R. It was a stellar performance from all. Angel Miranda was off his game but it didn’t matter as he 5 innings giving up 4ER. Ricky Bones was solid going 3 2/3 innings only giving up 3H and no runs. Ramon Garcia continues to not give up any runs on the season. Brewers look for the sweep tomorrow.
Milwaukee 15 Kansas City 4
July 8th 1994: 4 run 8th sparks another comeback win as Brewers sweep Royals.
Milwaukee Brewers enter the all star break red hot as they have the best record in baseball over the last month. Cal Eldred put the Brewers in a hole giving up 4ER in 6 innings. The Brewers trailed 4-3 going into the Bottom of the 8th when the Brewers offense lit up scoring 4 runs to take a 7-4 lead. Jesse Orosco like the norm got the save not even giving up a hit in the 9th. Doug Henry in some strange luck got the win again his 6th of the year to improve 6-1. BJ Surhoff went 3-4 with a R and 2 RBI. Greg Vaughn went 2-3 with a HR 2R and 2RBI. John Jaha scored 2 runs thanks to 2BB, and Mark Loretta added 2 hits as well.

BREAKING NEWS: SP JAMIE NAVARRO TRADED TO PITTSBURGH
Jamie Navarro who had been on the trading block for the last month and with just a few weeks to go before the deadline finally found a trade worth taking. Navarro who has had a tough time in the last couple years including a 5.56ERA this year but a surprising 7-3 record. Navarro was traded along with RP prospect Marshall Boze to Pittsburgh for SP/RP 26 year old Paul Wagner, Wagner went 8-8 last year but struggled this year with an 8.4ERA before being sent to the minors. Wagner will get a chance as the long relief man and if he pitches well he might get a chance in the rotation. The biggest reason for the trade was that Navarro will be a free agent after the season and won’t be able to be resigned for the money they can offer.
July 15th 1994: Error proves costly as Brewers loose heartbreaker in 10.
Probably one of the best games of the year in terms of good pitching, clutch hitting, and big defensive plays will be remembered for a Pat Listach error in the 10th that lead to the game winning run. Paul Wagner came into the game in the 8th and worked well and with 1 out in the 10th Listach had a routing throw to first that went errant. Wagner got the second out but then gave up the game winning hit to take the loss 5-4. Wagner looked good going 3 innings only giving up the 1 unearned run. Higuera pitched 6 innings only giving up 2ER. Doug Henry gave up 2ER in 2/3 innings which let the 4-2 lead slip away. John Jaha was perfect from the plate going 3-3 with a BB. Darryl Hamilton and Tom Brunansky each added two hits. Brunansky scored 2 runs as well along with Mark Loretta.
Oakland 5 Milwaukee 4 (10 innings)
July 16th 1994: Not quite enough to beat the best team in baseball.
The Brewers gave everything they had to prove they are for real today and just fell up short against the NY Yankees. Angel Miranda was roughed up early giving up 4ER in 5 innings, as the Brewers fell behind early. Behind great pitching of Mike Ignasiak who went 3 scoreless innings the Brewers fought back making it 4-3 but couldn’t find enough hitting to win. Greg Vaughn who started off the season a bit slow now tied the team lead with his 18th HR of the season. Jeff Cirillo got his 3rd HR of the year. Darryl Hamilton and Dave Nilsson as seems usual each got 2 hits.
New York 4 Milwaukee 3
July 17th 1994: Jose Valentin’s 7th inning Grand Slam carries Brewers to victory.
The Yankees jumped out early with a 3 run HR in the second inning by Jim Leyritz off of Cal Eldred. Eldred settle down not allowing another hit after that through seven innings. Mark Loretta was the only Brewer with two hits. Graeme Lloyd and Jesse Orosco did their 8th-9th inning combo of dominance as Orosco picked up save number 29. Between the two teams there were only 8 hits all game 3 of them HR’s.
Milwaukee 5 New York 3
July 18th 1994: Jim Abbott nearly pitches no hitter as Yankees cruise.
Jim Abbott took a no hitter to the 9th inning. The question was could he do it. With BJ Surhoff and one out he ripped a single through the infield. Then Jose Valentin proceeded to crush the next ball out of the park before Abbott retired the last two batters for the cg win. Bobby Jones got hit around giving up 6ER in 5 innings before being yanked. Ignasiak and Ramon Garcia each gave up an ER in relief. The top of the order Jeter, Boggs, and Mattingly each got three hits on the night for the Yankees who took the series.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
August 1st 1994: Brewers start month by sweeping Royals.
It was a battle but the Brewers are just on a hot streak even their manager can’t believe. Cal Eldred was solid today in his 11th win of the year going 7 innings giving up 2ER and striking out 5. Graeme Lloyd and Jesse Orosco did their normal 8th-9th combo with Orosco getting the save. Greg Vaughn was the only brewer with 2 hits. Darryl Hamilton had 2 stolen bases on the day. Vaughn, Nilsson, and Castilla all got RBI’s on the day. Royal Brent Mayne had a hot bat going 3 for 4 on the night and accounting both runs for the royals.
Milwaukee 3 Kansas City 2
August 3rd 1994: Great pitching leads way for Brewers over Tigers.
Bobby Jones pitched like the young stud he has all summer long. He went 8 innings with 1ER while striking out 5 and only walking 1 batter. The Brewers struggled at the plate for most of the day. Tom Brunansky lead the way hitting his 22nd HR of the year and collecting 3 RBI’s on the day. Vinny Castilla was the only Brewer with 2 hits. Greg Vaughn and Darryl Hamilton each drew 2 walks as well. For the Tigers Lou Whitaker was the only player to have 2 hits and got the tigers only RBI on the day.

Tom Brunansky also kept his hitting going hitting a 3 run home run and adding a 4th RBI with a single later in the game. To top it off Greg Vaughn came through with his 24th HR of the year as well. The Brewers are on pace to break their franchise record for HR. Kevin Seitzer scored 2 runs during the game as well. Teddy Higuera got shelled giving up 6R in 6 innings. Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
August 24th 1994: Brewers lose marathon to Angels.
Bobby Jones’s arm might be tired. At times he looked great today for 4 out of the six innings he was in he pitched no hit ball. In the other 2 innings the Angels got Grand Slams. The Brewers were down 8 to 1 in the 7th inning but the never say die attitude kicked in and suddenly it was 8 to 8 where the score stood until Ramon Garcia in his 3rd inning of pitching gave up a game winning double in the bottom of the 13th inning. Jeff Cirillo had 4 hits on the day including his 20th 2B of the year. Kevin Seitzer hit a rare home run only his 2nd of the year. Darryl Hamilton was back in the lineup after a few days off for the flu, he went 2 for 6 with 2runs, 2rbi’s and 2 stolen bases. Doug Henry and Graeme Lloyd each pitched 2 scoreless innings for the Brewers
California 9 Milwaukee 8 (13 innings)
August 25th 1994: Brewers make comeback in 9th, win in 11.
For the second day in the row, nine innings wasn’t enough to decide the game. This time the winning run came off a solo shot from Vinny Castilla in the 11th. Castilla added a big hit in the 9th as well. Darryl Hamilton got 3 hits on the day and a stolen base that lead to a run scored. Kevin Seitzer got two hits and added an RBI. Pat Listach continues to be hot getting 2 hits as well on the day. Teddy Higuera pitched 5 solid innings giving up 1 run but left due to fatigue. Paul Wagner got roughed up giving up 2ER in 3 innings. Graeme Lloyd picked up the win with 2 scoreless innings, while Jesse Orosco got the save.
Milwaukee 4 California 3 (11 innings)
August 26th 1994: The series ends like it should, more extra innings.
The Brewers defense today saved the game and the series. Ricky Bones was hit all over the field in seven innings, he gave up 13 hits on the day but somehow the Brewers held the angels to 2 runs. Meanwhile Mark Langston was on striking out 11 Brewer batters in 7 1/3 innings. Jose Valentin had 2 hits on the day. Greg Vaughn had 2 hits as well including the game winning HR in the 10th his 29th HR of the year. Dave Nilsson had his worst outing of the year going 0 for 5 with 3K’s. Ramon Garcia picked up the win in 2 scoreless innings while Jesse Orosco got yet another save.
Milwaukee 3 California 2 (10 innings)
BREAKING NEWS: BREWERS DREAMS MAY BE CRUSHED, DARRYL HAMILTON OUT FOR YEAR.
Darryl Hamilton broke his leg in yesterday’s game when making a spectacular catch in the 8th inning. This is huge news as Darryl Hamilton was the league leader in stolen bases, and among the AL lead in batting average and runs. In his place Troy O’Leary has been on fire in AAA and will come back to the Brewers.
August 27th 1994: Yankees bats demolish Brewers, 21 hits and 13 runs.
The Brewers never stood a chance today as they were clobbered by the Yank’s bats all day long. Angel Miranda did the best going 5 innings giving up 4ER. Paul Wagner got shelled giving up 5 runs in 2/3 an inning. Rick Reed didn’t fair much better giving up 4ER in 2 1/3 inning. Jose Valentin did manage to have a 3 hit night including a solo shot. BJ Surhoff had 2 hits both of which were solo home runs to increase his total to 14 on the year. For the Yankees Don Mattingly had a Grand Slam and a 3 run shot leading to 7 RBI’s on the day.
New York 13 Milwaukee 3
August 28th 1994: Starting pitching crumbles against Yank’s for second straight day.
Cal Eldred has had a rough last few outings and in one month his era has jumped from under 4 to almost 5. Eldred gave up 7 ER in only 5 innings of work. The game was pretty much over before it started. Ramon Garcia pitched well going 3 innings with an ER, while Doug Henry pitched a meaningless 9th. For the Brewers the offense was pretty much Tom Brunansky’s 26th HR of the year and another by John Jaha. Lead off for the Yanks Luis Polonia went 5 for 5 on the day. Paul O’Neil added 3 hits and Danny Tartabull blasted a big home run. Andy Pettite got the win.
New York 8 Milwaukee 4
BREAKING NEWS: KEEPS GETTING WORSE FOR BREWERS, DAVE NILSSON OUT FOR TWO WEEKS
With playoffs in site the Brewers looked like a sure lock until earlier this week when they lost Darryl Hamilton for the year to a Broken Leg. Now just a few days later it turns out All Star Dave Nilsson will be out for 2 crucial weeks. Word is BJ Surhoff will go behind the plate, and guys like Troy O’Leary and Mark Loretta will see more at bats.
SIDE NOTE: BASEBALL MOGUL IS REALLY TRYING TO KEEP ME DOWN.
Bill Wegman, Bob Scanlan, Bill Spires, and Darryl Hamilton all opening day roster players gone for the year at this point and now a 2 week injury of my best overall player.
August 29th 1994: Brewers find way to win 80th game of year.
The Brewers without a lot of the firepower in their bat today somehow managed to win the game. Bobby Jones definitely got the Brewers out of a jam going 7 innings and giving up 4 runs in the best pitching performance of the series. Graeme Lloyd and Jesse Orosco did their 8th-9th lefty combo they have done so well all season. Tom Brunansky was the Brewer hero getting 3 hits and scoring 2 runs. Kevin Seitzer also found a way to get 3 hits as well on the day and adding 2 RBI’s. Greg Vaughn batted lead off and got on base 3 times twice on a walk and a hit. For the Yanks Luis Polonia continues to crush the Brewers as he has 10hits in this series so far.
Milwaukee 6 New York 4
August 30th 1994: Brewers hit and score all over Yankees to split big series.
All 9 batter for the Brewers got a hit today as the Brewers won easily despite a rough outing from Teddy Higuera. Teddy got his 13th win despite giving up 6 runs in 5 innings, only 3 of those were ER though thanks to a costly error. Kevin Seitzer was in the leadoff role and got 3 hits and scored 2 runs. Pat Listach, BJ Surhoff, and John Jaha each added 2 hits on the day. Tom Brunansky crushed his 27th HR of the year, a 2 run homer. Mark Loretta added a 2 run HR as well. Paul Wagner rebounded well from his last tough outing going 3 1/3 scoreless innings.
Milwaukee 13 New York 6
August 31st 1994: Mark McGwire powers past Brewers.
It was a pitching duel today. Ricky Bones pitched 7 innings of 1 Run ball. Ariel Prieto pitched a 2 hit 1 run CG for the A’s. The difference was a big bottom of the 8th 2run shot from McGwire his 35th of the year off of Rick Reed who takes the loss. Ruben Sierra also hit a solo shot for the A’s. Brewers only had 3 base runners all game 2 singles by Mark Loretta, and Jeff Cirillo, and a walk by Vinny Castilla.

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
September 7th 1994: Brewers make comeback, continue to have Orioles number.
The Brewers have yet to lose to Baltimore this season. Because of that they have pretty much singlehandedly eliminated the Orioles from the playoffs. Ricky Bones had a hard time finding the strike zone walking 6 batters and giving up 5ER in 5 innings. Rick Reed then came in and was lights out going 4 innings and just giving up 1ER. Kevin Seitzer had a great day scoring 3 runs on 2 hits including a rare HR his 3rd of the season. Tom Brunansky added a rare inside the park HR the Brewers second of the season. It was Tom’s 28th HR of the year. Jeff Cirillo and Greg Vaughn each added 2 hits for the Brewers while John Jaha added a pair of RBI’s.
Milwaukee 9 Baltimore 6
September 8th 1994: Chris Sabo hits walk off HR to finally beat Brewers.
The Orioles needed a great outing from Mike Mussina and they got it going 8 innings giving up 1 run. The Brewers scored the tying run in the 9th only for Doug Henry to give up the game winning HR in the bottom of the 9 to Chris Sabo. Bobby Jones pitched 7 strong innings giving up 2 ER. Vinny Castilla managed to get 3 hits on the day but none of them lead to a run or an RBI. BJ Surhoff was the only other Brewer with more than one hit, he also scored both the Brewer runs on the day. It should be of note that a lot of the everyday starters were out for the Brewers today.
Baltimore 3 Milwaukee 2
September 9th 1994: Brewers error almost cost them game.
Cal Eldred pitched great going 6 innings striking out 8 and giving up just 1ER. However a costly error allowed the O’s to get 4 runs on the board. A HR off Ramon Garcia made it a one run game. Luckily Graeme Lloyd and Jesse Orosco have done what they have all year going scoreless in the 8th and 9th to get Cal his 15th win of the year. Greg Vaughn had a big game going 2 for 5 with a big2 run HR his 31st of the year. Vaughn also had 2R and 2RBI. John Jaha also gave us his 19th HR of the year. Jesse Orosco got his 47th Save out of 50 save opportunities. Harold Baines was the only O with 2 hits.
Milwaukee 6 Baltimore 5
September 10th 1994: Tigers strike out Crew 11 times on way to easy victory.
Teddy Higuera had a chance to match Eldred in wins today and just wasn’t on. In six innings Higuera gave up 6H 6runs all earned, and walked 5, putting the Brewers in a hole. It didn’t help that Tim Belcher and company struck the Crew out with ease today. Jeff Cirillo was really the only Brewer who did anything getting 2 hits, 2 walks, a run and an RBI. Tom Brunansky struck out 3 times while three other Brewers struck out twice each.
Detroit 6 Milwaukee 2
September 11th 1994: Brewers offense continues to struggle against Tigers.
The Brewers offense was limited 2 doubles, 4 singles, and 4 walks all of which produced only 1 run. BJ Surhoff was the only Brewer with two hits on the day. Pat Listach got the only RBI a sac fly that scored Greg Vaughn. Rick Reed got a spot start and was roughed up for 5 runs in 6 innings. Ramon Garcia gave up an unearned run in 2 innings. Lou Whitaker had a 3 run HR and added another RBI with a double later on. Everyone of the Tigers batting lineup got a hit.
Detroit 6 Milwaukee 1
September 12th 1994: The Big Auzzie returns helps lead Brewers to victory.
Dave Nilsson returned to the lineup today and boy did he return. Dave Nilsson went 3 for 5 with a 2B and an RBI. Pat Listach, Vinny Castilla, and Kevin Seitzer each had 2 hits on the day for the Crew. Greg Vaughn hit his 32nd home run of the year, while Tom Brunansky added HR number 29. Ricky Bones went six innings and gave up 3ER in the win. Henry and Lloyd pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th inning. Jesse Orosco gave up an ER but did still get the save.

Matt Mieske got a pinch hit HR his 2nd since his September call up. Carlos Delgado and Devon White each hit HR’s for the Jays.
Toronto 8 Milwaukee 4
September 15th 1994: Cal Eldred, Home Runs lead to victory.
Cal Eldred was lights out today in recording his 16th win of the season. Cal went 8 innings giving up 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 6. Dave Nilsson hit 2 solo home runs getting back into the grove. Dave now has 28 HR’s on the season. Greg Vaughn had 2 hits including his 33rd HR of the year. Kevin Seitzer had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s. Tom Brunansky also had 2 hits on the day. Mike Fetters almost gave the game away giving up 3ER in one inning. Paul Molitor had 2 hits on the day, and Ed Sprague hit a HR for the jays.
Milwaukee 6 Toronto 4
September 16th 1994: More Home runs, More Great pitching give Brewers series.
Teddy Higuera is trying to keep pace with Cal Eldred and did so today. Teddy picked up his 15th win of the season on 7 innings of 1ER ball. Paul Wagner came in and finished with 2 scoreless innings. On the offensive side. Greg Vaughn got 2 hits including a 2 run Home run. Vinny Castilla broke out of a slump also getting 2 hits and a 2 run blast. Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
September 21st 1994: Brewers outlast the Jays, get a much needed win.
Bobby Jones was on the mound looking to rebound from a bit of a slump. Jones pitched 6 innings giving up 3ER while striking out 6. That was enough to leave the game with a 4-3 lead. Solid pitching the rest of the way and a HR from Dave Nilsson finished the job. Jesse Orosco got save number 50 on the year and again dropped his ERA under 2 for the year. Dave Nilsson had 2 hits including his HR and put in 3 RBI’s as well on the day. Jeff Cirillo in the leadoff spot hit his 5th HR of the year. Greg Vaughn added 2 hits on the day. Carlos Delgado and Ed Sprague both hit HR’s for the Jays while Molitor added 2 hits again against his former team.
Milwaukee 6 Toronto 3
September 22nd 1994: Brewers hit their way past Toronto.
The Brewers got their victory thanks to 10 hits and 7 runs. Vinny Castilla looked good getting 2 hits and 3RBI’s on the day. Greg Vaughn also had 2 hits and added a pair of RBI’s. Teddy Higuera started out strong going 6 scoreless inning before walking 3 straight batters and giving up a Grand Slam to Devon White. Ramon Garcia pitched a scoreless 1 2/3 innings. Jesse Orosco got his second save of the series.
Milwaukee 7 Toronto 4
September 23rd 1994: Brewers pitching implodes gives up 10 runs.
Angel Miranda was rocked in the second inning giving up 5ER. He did manage to last 5 innings and didn’t give up another run, and left the game to a 5-5 tie. Paul Wagner who has had good outing and terrible outings provided the later going 1 2/3 innings and giving up 4ER. Mike Ignasiak gave up the meaningless 10th run of the game. Dave Nilsson had 2 hits including his 31st HR of the year. Jeff Cirillo had 2 hits and 2 walks which led to 2 runs. BJ Surhoff added a pair of RBI’s. Paul Molitor again dropped 3 hits on the crew. Devon White had 3 RBI’s in the day while Ed Sprague hit his 28th HR of the year for the Jays.
Toronto 10 Milwaukee 5
September 25th 1994: Terrible pitching, defense, lead to Red Sox route of Crew.
With their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, the crew responded by giving up 11runs and having 3 errors today. Ricky Bones pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs. Mike Ignasiak helped get the game a little closer going 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Before Mike Fetters completed an awful year giving up 4ER in 2 innings. For Milwaukee Dave Nilsson and Greg Vaughn each hit HR’s like they have all year. Jose Valentin and Jeff Cirillo each got 2 hits on the day. For the Red Sox everybody in the starting line up got at least one hit, even worse the #3 thru #6 hitters went a combined 11 for 19 with 2 HR’s.
Boston 11 Milwaukee 4
September 26th 1994: Brewers ride Eldred’s arm, Home Runs to victory.
When the Brewers needed a win desperately to keep their slim 1 game lead over the White Sox for the Wild Card Race they called on Cal Eldred, and he delivered. Cal pitched 7 innings of 1 run ball on way to his 17th win of the season. Ramon Garcia came in and kept up the pitching excellence retiring 6 batters straight 5 by strikeout. The Offense was lead by BJ Surhoff with 2 hits a HR and 3 RBI’s. Vinny Castilla added 2 hits including his 30th HR of the year. Pat Listach hit his 1st HR of the year an inside the park of the HR. Mark Loretta also added 3 hits and a couple of runs.
Milwaukee 8 Boston 1
BREAKING NEWS: BILL SPIERS RETURNS!!!!
The doctors cleared Bill Spiers to retun to the club today and its just in time. Bill was hitting the ball well until his injury almost 4 months ago. Spiers will get some at bats and may be a part of the playoff roster if he looks 100%. Milwaukee holds a 2 game lead in the wild card race over the White Sox with 4 games to play.
September 27th 1994: Bobby Jones throws complete game, wins 15th game of year.
Bobby Jones followed Cal Eldred’s great performance yesterday with an even better one today. Bobby Jones went 9 innings giving up just 1ER on 6 hits. For the Brewers the offense was limited but came through in the end. Dave Nilsson and BJ Surhoff each had 2hits and 2RBI’s providing most of the offense of the day. Kevin Seitzer got 2 hits and scored 2 runs on the day. Jeff Cirillo also had 2 runs on the day thanks to drawing 2 walks. Bill Spiers went 0 for 3 with a K in his return. Damon Berryhill got the only run for Boston off a Normar Garciaparra single.
Milwaukee 5 Boston 1
September 28th 1994: Brewers ride pitching into playoffs.
The Brewers won the wild card today with a victory over the Seattle Mariners. The victory was due to a third straight super outing from a starting pitcher. Teddy Higuera went 7 innings with 1 ER while striking 8 out. Graeme Lloyd pitched a scoreless 8th while Jesse Orosco got the save even though he gave up an ER. Matt Mieske got 2 hits including a big 2 run HR. Vinny Castilla added 2 hits as well and scored a run with an RBI as well. Word is for the last two games the Brewers well rest most of their subs despite being tied for a franchise record in wins.
Milwaukee 4 Seattle 2
SIDE NOTE: WOOOOOOO!!!!! IN THE PLAYOFFS BABY!
September 29th 1994: Subs fight hard lose close one to Mariners.
The Brewers knew that to win they would need good pitching. The pitching just wasn’t good enough. Angel Miranda pitched 5 innings giving up 2ER while getting 4K. Rick Reed took the loss for the Crew giving up 3 runs in his first inning of work but went 2 more not giving up anymore runs. Fill in catcher Mike Matheny got 2 hits the only Brewer to do so. Jose Valentin scored 2 runs in the game. For Seattle Luis Sojo got 3 hits while Alex Rodriguez, Dan Wilson, and Brian Turang each got 2 hits.
Seattle 6 Milwaukee 4
September 30th 1994: Randy Johnson K’s 11 in 6 innings of work against Crew Subs.
With nothing on the line the Brewers got a look at a lot of their subs in the last 2 days. Ricky Bones was on the mound and pitched fairly well going 6 innings giving up 4ER. Mike Ignasiak pitched 2 scoreless innings. September 2B call up Eddy Diaz went 2 for 2 from the plate with a R and an RBI. Jeff Cirillo got 2 hits as well on the day. Jose Valentin and Turner Ward each got a hit and a run on the day. Ken Griffey and Icihiro Suzuki each got 2 hits on the day. Randy Johnson got his 14th win of the year.

1994 PLAYOFF PREVIEW!!!!!!!!!!
NATIONAL LEAGUE PREVIEW
Atlanta Braves 107-55 (NL EAST WINNER) vs. San Francisco Giants 94-68 (WILD CARD)
The Match Up:
Hitting: San Francisco enjoys a big advantage here. They have one of the best 4-5 combo’s in baseball with Barry Bonds and Matt Williams. Both had 30+ HR 100+ Runs and 100+ RBI’s. Barry is having an MVP year. In addition their lineup is sprinkled with a .300 100R lead off man in Dave Martinez, a hall of famer Tony Gwynn who was acquired midseason from the Padres, and a .300 batter in Robby Thompson. They also have Darryl Strawberry on the bench who has 20+ HR and over 70 Runs +RBI’s. Atlanta has some batting in the likes of 33HR man Dave Justice. .320 25HR Catcher Javy Lopez and young up an comer Chipper Jones. They also have solid everyday guys like Andy Van Slyke and Crime Dog Fred McGriff. The biggest issue is two of their best hitters are injured for the series. 1B Ryan Klesko and 3B Todd Zeile are out atleast until game 4 with late season injuries.
Defense: Neither team is loaded with gold gloves however the advantage has to lie with the quicker Atlanta Braves. San Francisco definitely sacrifices some of it’s defense for the sake of offense.
Starting Pitching: By far the best starting rotation in baseball all season long has been the Braves. John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Greg Maddux are ace’s anywhere in baseball. Any of them could be a cy young winner this year though Maddux will probably get it. Meanwhile the Giants have 2 solid starters in 20 game winner Mark Portugal and ace John Burkett. Against anyone else Giants would probably have the better starters.
Relief Pitching: The giants have a slight advantage here. Their closer Rod Beck is a little more reliable than Atlanta’s Gregg Olson. The rest of the bullpen is a wash between the two teams except the Giants also have a great setup man in Steve Frey with a 1.42ERA on the year.
PREDICTION: This series will probably go 5 games just because Atlanta’s starting pitchers are so strong. With that said I think the injuries to Atlanta will proves the difference.
SF GIANTS 3 GAMES TO 2 OVER ATLANTA BRAVES
Los Angeles Dodgers 108-54 (NL WEST WINNER) vs. Houston Astros 99-63 (NL CENTRAL WINNER)
The Match Up:
Hitting: These were two of the best hitting teams in all of baseball this year and it really will come down to who keeps up the great hitting. Dodgers 3-4 combo Eric Karros and Mike Piazza had a combined 95HR 232R and 288RBI’s. Eric Karros may be the most unlikely MVP of all time if he gets it. 5 Hitter Raul Mondesi was also in the .300 25HR 100R 100RBI club. Their 1 and 2 hitters Brent Butler and Jose Offerman provide speed and a good OBA. For Houston their 1-3 hitters Steve Finley, Craig Biggio, and Luis Gonzalez all had 20+ HR and 100+ R and 100+ RBI’s. Jeff Bagwell is another MVP candidate as he went for 43HR 136R and 144RBI’s while batting .331.
Defense: Houston Astros have a few really good defensive players like Craig Biggio and Steve Finley. The Dodgers have Mike Piazza from behind the plate and no real weaknesses in the field. Houston holds a slight advantage here.
Starting Pitching: The advantage has to go to the Dodgers here. They have a veteran ace in Orel Hershiser who was a 15 game winner. A young fireballer in Ramon Martinez and Tom Candiotti who has looked great since coming back from injury midseason. Houston Astros had 3 15 game winners but none of them were unhittable. Greg Swindell, Darryl Kile, and Pete Harnisch will pitch well but against a lineup like the Dodgers it could be a real problem.
Bullpen: This might be the deciding factor for the Dodgers. Todd Worrell had 44 saves and a 2.55ERA as a closer. The rest of the staff is average. For Houston their closer Billy Wagner ended his season early with an arm injury which means Houston uses a closer and bullpen by committee. No one in the Bullpen for the Astros is really a shutdown guy.
PREDICTION: This should be a high scoring series no matter what. I think in the end the Houston Astros pitching will give up too many runs add to that the Dodgers are the home team this could be a sweep.
LA DODGERS 3 GAME SWEEP OF THE ASTROS
AMERICAN LEAGUE PREVIEW
New York Yankees 100-62 (AL EAST WINNER) vs. Milwaukee Brewers 95-67 (WILD CARD)
The Match Up:
Batting: The Yankees hitting reads like a who who of the AL. Bernie Williams is an MVP candidate with 31HR 127R 140RBI while batting .343. Danny Tartabull added 33HR while batting over .300. Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly, and Wade Boggs were all .300 hitters during the season. The Brewers lost their leadoff man and stolen base leader Darryl Hamilton and haven’t quite looked the same since. They still have some pop in the bat though. C Dave Nilsson had 32HR and 109RBI while batting over .330 on the season. Greg Vaughn had 35HR and over 100RBI’s and Vinny Castilla added 30HR. John Jaha, Tom Brunansky and Jose Valentin all had 20 or more HR on the year as well. With that said the advantage has to lie with the Yankees.
Defense: The Yankees are an average defensive team except for gold glover Derek Jeter, but that is still head and shoulders above one of the most error ridden teams in the Brewers. This most likely could be what gives the Yankees the series.
Starting Pitching: The Yankee’s lost 2 of their starters for the year giving the Brewers an advantage here. Both Jimmy Key and Jim Abbott were lost in summer and now the only starter of the Yankees who is on their level is Andy Pettite. Milwaukee has some great young pitchers in Cal Eldred and Bobby Jones who both won 15+ games. Teddy Higuera who missed most of the last 2 years is the comeback player of the year getting 17 wins on the year. This might be what gives the Brewers a chance.
Relief Pitching: The Brewers might have a small very small advantage here. Both teams have an average bull pen but great set up and closers. The Brewers come in with Graeme Lloyd a 2.26ERA on the year and Jesse Orosco a 1.74ERA with 52sv’s. Yankees aren’t much weaker they have 40+ save guy Jeff Reardon 2.5ERA and Mike Henneman 20+ save 2.92ERA. Yankees are the only team who had 2 guys with 20+ saves.
Prediction: The Brewers play well enough not to get swept, and have played the Yankees OK during the season. However the bats and potential scoring bursts of the Yankees will prove too much.
NY YANKEES 3 GAMES TO 1 OVER BREWERS
Cleveland Indians 101-61 (AL CENTRAL WINNER) vs. Texas Rangers 86-76 (AL WEST WINNER)
The Match Up:
Batting: Both teams have key injuries in their lineup. The Rangers lost Juan Gonzalez for the season late in the year and will miss his power and RBI’s. Cleveland’s lead off man Kenny Lofton will not be available for the series because of a hampering injury. With that said the injury of Gonzalez is too much for the Rangers here. Cleveland still has 3 40+HR 120+RBI guys in their 3-5 hitters Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, and Albert Belle. Cleveland also has .300 100+R 100+RBI 2 hitter Brian Giles and late season trade Andres Galarraga who had 100+R 100+RBI’s on the season as well. This was the best hitting team in baseball. Texas sports some power in Jose Canseco, Ivan Rodriguez, and Dean Palmer as well as a thief of a lead off man in David Hulse. Texas also had Will Clark who batted .327 on the year.
Defense: Both teams have solid defense in the infield but their outfields are not strong. Jose Canseco, Manny Ramirez, and Albert Belle all were among the league in errors for outfields. The Rangers might have a small advantage with Ivan Rodriguez behind the plate.
Starting Pitching: This is a weak point of Texas who had one of the worst starting staff ERA’s and the fewest quality starts in the AL. Kenny Rogers is their closest thing to an ace while Roger Pavlik shows some flashes of capability. Cleveland doesn’t have a great staff but compared to the Rangers looks great. Dennis Martinez and Jack Morris are both over the hill but had solid years getting 16 and 17 wins respectively. Mark Clark is a capable #3 starter.
Bullpen: Texas’s bullpen is almost as bad as the starters. Their closer Tom Henke had a 6ERA on the season. Only Mike Perez and Jeremy Hernandez had under 4ERA’s in the bullpen. Cleveland has a good 8th-9th inning combo in Jerry Dipoto and Rafael Betancourt which is a lot more than the Rangers have.
Prediction: Texas is clearly outmatched here in almost all aspects. I don’t see much of a chance for the Rangers to win the series let alone a game.

GAME 1 ALDS: OROSCO GETS ROCKED IN 9TH ERRORS ALSO PROVE COSTLY AS YANKS TAKE 1-0 LEAD
The Brewers lost the first game thanks in part to a costly Jeff Cirillo error, and a terrible outing from the nearly perfect Jesse Orosco. The Bats were hot at times during the game and that’s all it took for a win. Dave Nilsson went 2 for 4 with 2RBI’s and a R. Jose Valentin got 2 hits as well with a run scored. Tom Brunansky drew 2 walks which led to a run as well. For the Yankees Andy Pettite had trouble finding the strike out walking 4 batters and giving up 4 runs in six innings of work. I will also give the next 2 lowest ranked teams 1 pick from the next 2 best teams. Basically bad teams with small payrolls will get players from good teams with high payrolls.
San Diego, Florida, St. Louis, and Minnesota will each get 2 players.
Colorado, and Kansas City each get 1 player
Cleveland, NY Yankees, Atlanta, San Francisco will each lose 2 players

Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
April 2nd 1995: Brewers offense starts the season off in all the right ways.
The Brewers offense looked great in the opener against the Jays pouring in 11 runs on 15 hits. Vinny Castilla was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2R. Jose Valentin was 2-2 with 2BB and a 2 run HR. Jeff Cirillo had 2 hits including a double and 3RBI’s. New starter Troy O’Leary added a 2 run HR as well. 1B John Jaha had 2 hits on the day as well. Cal Eldred went 6 innings giving up 3ER and getting the win. New guy Jamie McAndrew got roughed up for a 2 run HR early but pitched cleanly after that, while Bob Scanlan closed the game out. For Toronto Juan Bell and Carlos Delgado each had HR’s while Paul Molitor added 2 hits and a pair of walks.
Milwaukee 11 Toronto 5
April 3rd 1995: Crew continue to pour in the runs.
Vinny Castilla has started the year right. Vinny went 3 for 4 with another 2B 2 runs and an RBI. 3B Kevin Seitzer got 2 hits and 2RBIs on the day. Jeff Cirillo got 2 RBI’s off a double while Darryl Hamilton got his 1st stolen base of the season. Brewers pitching was solid again today. Bobby Jones went 6 innings only giving up 2ER. Rookie Al Reyes looked great pitching 2 scoreless innings, while Bob Scanlan gave up a meaningless run in the 9th. For the Jays Erubiel Durazo hit a HR while Roberto Alomar and Carlos Delgado both got a pair of hits.
Milwaukee 7 Toronto 3
April 4th 1995: Blue Jays Dave Stewart pitches 3 hit shutout prevents sweep.
Just as it looked like the Brewers offense was kickin’ along comes Dave Stewart who just shut them down and shut them out. Jose Valentin was the only batter with 2 hits on the day for the Brewers. BJ Surhoff got the other hit. Pitcher Angel Miranda pitched great in the loss going 6 innings of 1 run ball. The Bullpen had a little bit of a problem, Graeme Lloyd gave up 2 runs in an inning while Doug Henry gave up another run in 2 innings of work. For Toronto Devon White got a home run and Roberto Alomar and Mike Huff each got 2 hits on the day.
Toronto 4 Milwaukee 0
April 5th 1995: Brewers leave a dozen men on base. Wonder if they won?
The Brewers bats hit the ball all over the park today getting 12 hits yet they only managed to score 2 runs. Poor base running, and being unable to hit in key situations cost the Brewers the game. Vinny Castilla was 3 for 4 on the day. Dave Nilsson got 2 hits and a run on the day. BJ Surhoff also added 2 hits. The Brewers only runs came off Sac Fly’s by John Jaha and Troy O’Leary. Paul Wagner gave up a 3 run HR to JT Snow in the 1st but continued strong through six. Al Reyes gave up a run in 2 innings while Scanlan pitched a perfect 9th. Former Brewer Jamie Navarro pitched 6 innings for California only giving up 2 runs.
California 4 Milwaukee 2
April 6th 1995: Vinny Castilla goes wild on, Crew rock Angels.
The Brewers bats got it going again today. Jeff Cirillo went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI’s. 3B Kevin Seitzer got 2 hits and 2 runs on the day. Jaha scored 2 runs as well thanks to a hit and 2 walks. Milwaukee 11 California 4
April 7th 1995: Langston holds Crew in Check, Eldred has a rough one.
Cal Eldred had a hard time today he only got through 4 innings he gave up 10 hits and a walk which lead to 4ER. The only positive was Eldred did strike out 5. For the Angels Mark Langston lasted 7 strong innings giving up just 2 runs. The Brewers bats were silent except for the bottom of the lineup. 8-9 hitters Brian Jordan and Troy O’Leary each had 2 hits while 7 hitter Jeff Cirillo had the other. Re: Brew City Miracle? Milwaukee Brewers 1994 and Beyond.
April 10th 1995: Cleveland hammers Brewers, doesn’t look pretty.
The stat line of the Brewers pitchers read like a horror story. Angel Miranda pitched 5 innings giving up 5ER. Ramon Garcia gave up 2ER in 2 1/3 inning. Mike Ignasiak gave up 2ER in 2/3 inning. No matter what the offense they did, they weren’t gonna win. C Dave Nilsson got 2 hits on the day including a home run. Jose Valentin was the only other Brewer to get 2 hits. For Cleveland leadoff man Kenny Lofton got 3 hits on 3 runs. The Indians hit 4 Home runs on the day Jim Thome and Manny Ramirez each had one while C Sandy Alomar had 2HR. Last years AL Cy Young Dennis Martinez went the whole game giving up just 2 runs.
Cleveland 9 Milwaukee 2
April 11th 1995: Brewers bats having real trouble. Crew losing streak at 4.
The Brewers pitching staff showed up in this one, unfortunately the bats did not. Chris Haney 6 innings of 2 run ball. And the bullpen pitched 2 scoreless innings as well. However the Brewers could only manage 1 lone run. Darryl Hamilton scored in the top of the first off a Jeff Cirillo single. That was it. Vinny Castilla got 2 hits on the day but they were both meaningless. Kevin Seitzer drew 2 walks as well that led to jack squat. Clevelands Mike Moore went 8 innings of 1 run ball while Rafael Bettencourt picked up the save. Brian Giles was the hero 3 for 3 with a HR for the Indians. Andres Galarraga and Carlos Baerga each had 2 hits for the Indians.
Cleveland 2 Milwaukee 1
April 12th 1994: Brewers offense = fail, Mark Clark shutouts Brewers, Indians sweep.
The Brewers hitting has gone ice cold for the last week and as such they have now lost 5 straight games. Cal Eldred was average for the Brewers giving up 4ER in 6 innings while the bullpen was solid. Unfortunately not a single Brewer even got to 3rd Base during the game. Darryl Hamilton got 2 of the Brewers 3 hits and a stolen base. Pat Listach got the other. Jim Thome killed the Brewers with a 3 run HR , while Brian Giles got 3 hits and 2 Run for the Indians in their sweep of the Brewers.
Cleveland 4 Milwaukee 0
April 13th 1994: 5 run 8th stops the Crews losing streak.
The Brewers entered the 8th inning of the game without scoring a run in the previous 24 innings. They finally found some hitting and with that they won a game by gosh. Vinny Castilla got 2 hits including a 3 run shot which put the Brewers in the lead and they added from there. Jeff Cirillo got 3 hits on the day scoring a run as well. Kevin Seitzer and Brian Hunter each got an RBI scoring Dave Nilsson and Pat Listach. Bobby Jones pitched 7 strong innings giving up 2ER. While Jesse Orosco finally got a chance to get on the mound and delivered the save. For the Red Sox Matt Stairs hit a HR.
Milwaukee 5 Boston 2
April 14th 1994: Brewers staff shutouts the Red Sox, needed it to win.
It doesn’t matter how you win but that you win. The Brewers pitching staff forced the Brewers into a 2 game winning streak. Angel Miranda was lights out pitched 7 scoreless innings. Graeme Lloyd and Jesse Orosco pitched scoreless innings in relief. Jeff Cirillo got 2 hits and a walk and provided the lone run of the game off of a Jose Valentin RBI single. Roger Clemens took the loss inspite of going 8 innings of 1 run ball with 10 strikeout.
Milwaukee 1 Boston 0
April 15th 1994: Where was this? Brewers get 16 hits complete sweep of Red Sox.
The Brewers found their hitting streak today getting 16 hits on the day. Every member of the starting lineup got a hit today. Vinny Castilla continues one of the hottest months in Brewers history getting 3 hits and 3RBI’s on the day. Jeff Cirillo added 3 hits as well from the lead off spot. Jose Valentin scored 3 runs on the day thanks to 2 hits and a walk. Dave Nilsson and Troy O Leary each had 2 hits as well. Newly acquired Chris Haney got his 2nd win of the year giving up 3ER in 7 innings. Al Reyes gave up an ER in one inning and Jesse Orosco got a save for the third day in a row. John Valentin and Scott Fletcher each got 2 hits on the day, Frank Viola took the loss.
Milwaukee 7 Boston 4
Current Record: 6-7
