LOL yeah, they sure established their dominance by scoring on an error; I still think they're gonna be lucky to advance past the next round.

Re: Anyone watching Netherlands V. DR on MLB.com?
Man,
I've loved baseball my whole life, and I think tonight embodied what I love about the game.
Pitching, and defense. Pitching and defense.
The Netherlands had no shot. No way this team beats the DR even ONCE. No way. So it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for them to beat them twice.
EXCEPT, in baseball, we all know the old saying about good pitching stops...... ok, we all know it.
But even still, you put the underdog factor, the low scoring pitching duel, and the fact they're playing for their country, add to it they're playing for survival, and this just epitomizes all the best of baseball.
This game brought actual tears to my eyes. It might be because I'm going through some personal struggles at the moment, but I think its mostly the beautiful game we all love, baseball.
Just friggin awesome.
I don't know where I was 2006, but I must've had my head up my ass, because this WBC concept is right on, IMO.

LOL, no, sorry. Didn't mean too. I know that guy can be annoying.
LOL, good point though. Guess I'm going overboard. :p
I'll try to lay off a bit.
Just this whole excitement caught me off guard. I started watching the WBC more out of missing baseball than an actual interest. But, man, it's got me involved, interested, and just as into it as the postseason of MLB.
Although I do admit that might be more an indictment of me than an endorsement of the WBC.

Re: Anyone watching Netherlands V. DR on MLB.com?
I'm right there with you OFG.
This tournament has been totally different then the 06 tournament IMO.
But now we are getting to see great baseball. That Netherlands-DR game was amazing. Absolute thriller right down to the end.

Not only have there been more good games, but the format's better. It may not be perfect, but the 2006 version had a really weird format--I can't recall the details, but I do know that the Japanese team that eventually won it only abvanced out of the first round because of some bizarre tie-breaker which required some numbers to be divided and carried out to like 3 decimal places and they advanced because the formula put them .001 ahead of another team.
This time, it's much simpler--lose twice in the first round, and you go home. Avoid losing more than once, and advance.

Re: Anyone watching Netherlands V. DR on MLB.com?
Wow, Australia held it really close to Cuba. And they get to play again I believe. This has been the tournament of under dogs...

Yes, they play Mexico again. Both Cuba and the Mexico-Australia winner advance to the 2nd round.
