It appears to be Bud's attempt to "honor" Howard. But it totally fails. Everyone knows, for the last 40+ years, that an asterisk means a record is tainted or otherwise invalid..

The more troubling thing in that link, to me, is Selig speaking in absolutes, especially in regards to Sammy Sosa.

Because Bud said so. Or Mike Schmidt said so (until otherwise proven false by some good reporting)
Just shows how much of a scumbag Selig is, at one point I slightly defend him as he was trampled for interleague play, playoff expansion - but since the AS fiasco and then his atrocious handling of Steroids over the last 5 years I've decided that he is the lowest form of person who can have that position.
I have less than zero respect for him becasue of matter like this.
