Marvin Harrison Released
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...s&confirm=true
Its sad to be in an era when players dont play for one team that defined them for their whole career.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
its all about cap money, Harrison didn't want to mess with his current contract and got released - 13.4m is too big a figure to devote to a WR.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
Irsay says 'nothing's been determined'
Irsay, however, told the Star that Condon was "premature" in his announcement.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
brooks (& even dunn) being released by the bucs is bigger news, in my opinion at least

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
the NFL is more of a journeyman's league. Always has been.
Baseball is definitely a tad bit sad now, but a lot of that had to do with the onslaught of free agency.

I love players moving....I don't wanna see players moving every year like Kenny Lofton but even if your a legend I wouldn't mind seeing you play for a different team.

To a point, if a player is still in his prime, but Harrison is way past that according to his numbers. But ill give it to you, it was interesting seeing Bruce in a 49ers uni last year and he was their best offensive player. But thats not sayin much.

I think seeing Montana in a Chiefs uni was interesting, Favre in a Jets, etc. Players moving teams should always be a part of a league. It makes the league have more parity.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
He'll go to Philly and play for 2 more years then retire. He'll be productive but never the receiver he was in Indy.

Maybe there is a few, Montana had something left in the tank so to speak. But look at these players, it wasnt enjoyable to watch them play in another uni.
Johnny Unitas w/ San Diego
OJ Simpson w/ San Fransisco
Earl Campbell w/ New Orleans
Emmitt Smith w/ Arizona
I really didnt find it enjoyable to see Favre in a Jets uniform. But then again so much was made about Favre retiring that just watching him wasnt fun anymore.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
Jerry Rice in a Seattle Uni wasn't that fun to watch; he was the 3rd or 4th option. Had some amazing catches though.

I dont remember which playoff game it was, but Engram dropped the pass in the end zone for the go ahead score. I think it was against the Rams now. But anywho, I was saying to my buddy, how in the **** do you not throw to Rice. He would of been $$$$ on that.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
I think Rice leaving San Francisco was the most shocking. Right up there with Emmitt leaving Dallas.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
Or Bledsoe leaving New England......................*cough*

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
Hope he signs with the Giants.
He'd be an excellent number two if we can get Plaxico back.

Cause rice was probably a step and a half off the LOS. He was quite done by that point

Why? Steve Smith had a really nice season starting for most of it. Spend that money maybe keeping one of those running backs and signing the drafted replacement for the other.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
They already did sign Jacobs.

I like one player playing for one team his whole career. Gwynn, Ripken, etc. I like that over Griffey going to Cincy. Jerry Rice could have stayed in San Francisco

To each his own I guess.

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
What fun is it if everyone stayed on the same team their whole career? Seems like that would make the sport a bit dull to me

Re: Marvin Harrison Released
I hope the Bears pick up Harrison to play opposite Hester. It'd be an interesting 1-2 WR combo, with some great potential... if Hester can continue his development at the position, if Harrison can return to even 80% of form, if the Bear O-line can protect the QB, and if Orton can play like he did in the first half of the '08 season... that's a pretty formidable offense, especially considering the quality of the Clark/Olsen combo. I know it's asking a lot, but the Bears are sure to upgrade the OL, plus have a healthy Chris Williams next season. Forte seems to have a great deal of talent... the Bears could have a lot of weapons, and could develop into a 10th-15th ranked offense.
It may sound like wishful thinking from a fan, but really, the Forte/Hester/Harrison/Olsen/Clark option contains a lot of specialized talent and could lead to a lot of scoring, so long as the OL holds up, and Orton is as good as he showed he can be.
Here's hoping.

Yep...I just think they have better ways to spend their money than replacing old possession receiver Amani Toomer...with even older possession receiver Marvin Harrison.

Oh I agree I don't think the Giants will even try and sign Harrison.
Steve Smith appears to be the answer for them and I think they will keep with him.
