Report: Haynesworth to the ‘skins
link
Our pal Lance Zierlein, a Houston radio host who has a blog at the Chronicle web site, reports that the Washington Redskins will sign Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth upon the start of the free agency period.
Unless, that is, the Titans exceed the offer that the Redskins will be making.
Writes Zierlein: “My source tells me to look for a contract that could break $100 million with an average of $15 million to $16 million per. My guy is almost never wrong and [Redskins owner] Dan Snyder gets what he wants.”
The bright side? The next time that Haynesworth tries to remove the scalp of Cowboys center Andre Gurode with a cleat, the behavior will better fit the nickname of Haynesworth’s team.
On Monday, Peter King of SI.com predicted that Haynesworth will land in D.C., pointing out that Snyder was seen dining in Indianapolis with Haynesworth’s agent, Chad Speck.
Re: Report: Haynesworth to the ‘skins
So, they'll spend what cap space they have on Haynesworth and ignore every other hole on the team. Nice to see Dan Snyder is still an idiot.
Re: Report: Haynesworth to the ‘skins
this isn't suprising as snyder is the only owner willing to spend that kind of $ on a free agent

No no, let's not forget the guy he seems to have learned from...Jerry Jones. He's always willing to overpay for a guy, so long as that guy is a complete dick. :D
Re: Report: Haynesworth to the ‘skins
Good thing, I was almost worried Pat Bowlen would go after him.

jones won't overpay a dt, the position isn't flashy enough
only 2 teams i see haynesworth playing for next year are the skins or the titans

STRONGLY disagree. Tampa's dumped every veteran they have to get cap space and he'd fit that defensive system perfectly. I also wouldn't be surprised at all to see Carolina throw a bid in there.

I stand my statement that the Skins are likely the only team to even contact him about his asking price (14-16M a year). I can see the Titans wanting him at about 12M per, along with maybe another team or 2. Why would the Bucs get rid of productive vets to clear space to sign just 1 player like Haynesworth? Doesn't make sense to me

Uhhh...they've already done their cuts, man. Brooks, Dunn, June and a few others...they chopped them earlier today. And why NOT sign a guy like Haynesworth? You backload the salary and stack up the bonus to a big chunk of the overall deal (and they can afford to), then re-do the contract in 2-3 years. NOBODY is going to give him 14-16 A YEAR...it averages to that mount by dividing total value by years, but no player EVER actually makes those massive backloaded final year salaries...it either gets re-negotiated or he gets released.

I already noted earlier today that they made releases, I don't see them releasing productive players to simply go after 1 player though.
And yes, Haynesworth has made it known that he's looking for a deal that's similar to Asomugha's new deal (meaning 14-16M a year, not backloaded like Nate Clement's deal). Again, just don't see the Bucs as a legit player for him. Skins have been the team he is expected to go to from the day he said he was going to test free agency, and that's for a reasaon.
Re: Report: Haynesworth to the ‘skins
Wow, now I can hate Albert Haynesworth even more, for he plays for Daniel Snyder!

He can make it be known all he wants, it doesn't mean he's going to get it. Manny Ramirez and Scott Boras wanted a $100 million deal...how'd that turn out?
Now, I agree that if there is someone who will go that high it IS Washington. Snyder's an idiot when it comes to big contracts. I really don't see Tennessee even staying in the bidding...they always tend towards letting guys go and drafting replacements.

Haha, even if he doesn't get it, doesn't mean he won't get close (11-12M per for at least 4 years). I don't see a team in obvious rebuild mode like Tampa making that offer (and since they appear to have gone in rebuild mode, I think they would have to outbid the other teams interested to land him). Only teams I see him signing with are Washington, Tennessee, Houston, Jacksonville (while they were bad this past year, they should have realized the importance of strong interior linemen as that was the main difference between their 07 & 08 teams), or Atlanta

The thing is, DOES Tampa think they're in rebuild mode? Who knows? Houston doesn't really work...they already pay a fortune to the multiple first round picks on their D-line. And that actually wasn't a bad position for them...they need a guy who can cover anyone, and a decent outside linebacker. Jacksonville...maybe. I think they need offensive line help more, though...they had no offense when their running game vanished, and they couldn't run because the blocking was awful.Skins are possible, The Titans are possible unless the numbers go too high. Atlanta's not a bad possibility. The more I think about it, though, the more I think the Panthers might end up with him (unless the Skins offer outright stupid money).
