Re: The Top Prospects for the 2009 MLB Draft
I'm pretty sure my Dodgers gave up their #17 pick to AZ for the O-Dog
Re: The Top Prospects for the 2009 MLB Draft
I wouldn't mind seeing the Giants take Ackley.
Re: The Top Prospects for the 2009 MLB Draft
I think it's a little early for this. Can we at least wait for the NFL Draft? I might get all drafted out....

That reminds me I need you to help me do the Expansion draft over ;)
Re: The Top Prospects for the 2009 MLB Draft
The Mariners gave up their compensation for Josh Fields
Re: The Top Prospects for the 2009 MLB Draft
Well barring major injury the clear first pick is Steven Stratsburg.
Here's an early list of the top 20 college prospects:

Well going by wahoosamC's link, if I were the Mariners I would probably go with Dustin Ackley at #2. I like the philosophy of picking the best player on the board, but a young CF who will likely make it up either by the time Ichiro is done or within the last year of Ichiro's contract would be nice. The other link states that he may have to move to 1B or 2B which would drop his value in my eyes. Even so Seattle could use a 1B or 2B in the future and as long as he can hit like they say then that would be no problem.
I think the Mariners are somewhat set on pitching for awhile, they've got Morrow and Felix who look to be very good and Bedard when he's not injured. Aumont will be coming up at some point in the future and any other holes that emerge can be fixed through free agency until then.
I don't know a lot about anybody in the draft, so this pick is really just me looking at the top 5 on that link and picking who I would like.

And they get the 27th (I think. Or 28th) pick from the Phillies as compensation for losing Ibanez.

I would take Green. Most likely, as Triunfel continues to get bigger and get more power, he'll be moved to third base or left field (where he'll be an above average fielder). Other than Triunfel, we have no other young shortstops with the potential to become superstars. With Green we would. And seeing as how athletic he is, we could always move him to CF. (Depending on his defense there, of course)

Well that list was also only college prospects. I'm pretty sure they did one including HS players too but I just couldn't find it.

I think the Nat's have shown their willingness to spend money in the draft recently. They lost Crow last year, but it was over less than a million dollars, so that tells me it was a matter of stubbornness on Bowden's side, probably combined with a lack of desire to play for the Nationals on Crow and his agent's side, and they have signed guys like McGeary in the draft, who were passed on by other teams due to the likelihood of high demands.

As we've seen, Bowden prefers keeping the signing bonus money for himself as opposed to actually using it to sign players

Hahaha, with any luck Bowden won't be in power by the draft, and even if he is I think even he's smart enough to just give Strasburg what he wants.

the fact that it was over less than a million dollars is what gives me pause however as you said that is just one case, they have spent in other cases. I am sure there were also other factors besides the money in why they didn't sign Crow, not that I have any inside knowledge or anything. The thing I am mildly afraid the Nats wil do is try to draft players that are nearly "major league ready" so to speak to try to turn things around quickly on the cheap, I hate hearing that term bandied about. You know guys that could be ready to play in a year or 3, usally college players.
