That really sucks, I REAAAAALLLY hope the same thing doesn't appear to be true about Carlos Truinfel although I keep suspecting it is :(
Haha
"Baseball Insiders" were skeptical of something the Washington Nationals said?? The Nationals operated by GM Jim Bowden? (Who apparently isn't considered a "baseball insider"??)Quote:
Gonzalez's signing, however, immediately drew suspicion from baseball insiders. There was considerable skepticism about the team's description of him as a five-tool player. "He doesn't run all that well, and has an average arm," an executive with another team said this summer.
Shocked. I'm shocked. I can barely breathe. I, I, I, don't know what to say. You mean baseball insiders knew more than Jim Bowden???? NO WAY ! ! Can't be ! !
*pulls out remaining few hairs*
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH ! ! !
[Would now be a bad time to ask that question I've asked so many times before: How the hell does Jim Bowden still have a job???]
Yeah, if I found Truinfel was 6 months older I wouldn't be too worried, if it were 2 years then the Mariner's farm system just took a pretty big hit in prospects that are close to MLB ready.
How does something like this happen after what MLB went through just a few years ago with folks faking their ages?? I mean baseball's response to that led to a guy getting away with faking his age AND name?? What is going on? Ripping Jim Bowden another new one aside (although I still marvel at the Nats describing someone who "doesn't run all that well and has an average arm" as a "5 tool player), I don't understand how any team could let this happen after the recent history.
Wasn't just a few years ago the whole faking ages thing happened?? I really don't understand this, at all.
EDIT And BTW, does this bring up any very real Homeland Security issues??? It seems to want to send off alarm bells in my head.
That is a good point, he is-quite obviously-not who he said he was.
I'm not sure if he could have gotten into the country as Esmailyn Gonzalez and just reported to the Nationals as Carlos Lugo. I don't know how Visas work for major league baseball. I'd think he would have to fake his entire identity to receive the working Visa.

I need to quit reading about baseball and just watch games, because it just keeps getting slimier and slimier.
Maybe there's a little league around here somewhere.
Sorry Filihok, but even Little League can't escape Americans' overwhelming desire to win. Don't forget Daniel Amonte's fake birth certificate.

Supposedly, the Nats are indeed thinking of firing Bowden
Between this debacle & his supposed skimming off the top of bonuses, it's not suprising

Carlos Alvarez David Lugo is having some visa issues. Wonder why?
Hmm. I have a feeling that Homeland Security doesn't appreciate people faking their identities. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he's deported.
