The Las Vegas Luck didn't fare too well either. Losing 7 - 2 in New York
Their first batter Matt Antonelli struck out. Matt Diaz had their first single. 1B Paul Konerko and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia went back-to-back in the 4th. Brad Penny took the loss going 5 and 2/3 innings. Giving up 5 earned runs on 5 hits with 4 walks and 3 strike outs.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
How did it feel playing against your Nationals???
-
Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Some thoughts from our first game
First, it was a lil weird playing against a team that I built. I found myself rooting for the wrong team a couple times. It's hard to see Zimmerman at the plate and think "get this guy out".
Second, The offense-for one game, wasn't TOO out of control. 12 runs scored is only 6 per team. About a run higher than the league average last year.
Third, two inside the park home runs in the same game. It's going to be a wild ride here in Mexico City.
Forth, 95,000 people came to see us. That's exciting. Hopefully we play well enough to keep them coming back.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Let it also be noted that the new Nationals GM has resigned Ryan Zimmerman for 5 years at $10,600,000 a year

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
NOTE: These write ups are going to be much shorter and less detailed than my Nats dynasty. I'm also going to play a lot faster. If you have any questions, ask, I may answer. I'm also posting the .mog if anyone wants to peek in there.
http://i608.photobucket.com/albums/t...APRILSTAND.jpg
WOW!!! I didn't expect this. The pitching and defense has vastly exceeded my expectations. Either that or this isn't the hitters park everyone predicted (that's obviously not the case...just look at the park effects. Anyway. A great start. And I'll take it.
The only real negatives. Ian Snell, our ace, hasn't been healthy. Injured twice and only making two starts. Also C Brian Jeroloman is on the DL for the majority of the season.

That may be a strategy you should think about utilizing. Get some guy's who blast a ton of triples in to your lineup and watch the home runs rack up.
Also, a small request, next time could you sort the batting by AB's? :) Makes it easier for me to browse.
I'm also surprised how well your pitching is doing. The R/9 for the most part is average/good (With the exception being Luebke) so it'll be interesting to see how low they can keep it throughout the year.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Wait, the White Sox are in first place? WTF? You said we couldn't draft from them!!! :D I also think I got screwed by playing in a tougher division.
Nice start. Hope you can keep up the lead. And I agree with 200tang: speed, speed, and more speed!
-
Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Tulo is off to bad start nice job 20-6

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
At 20-6 ... that is a great start.

RE 200tang: Oops...sorry. Looks like this time I sorted alphabetically. I'M not even happy about that.
RE Potato: They have as much chance of ending the season in first place as I do. Go White Sox!!!

Reality strikes in Mexico. After going 20 – 6 in April we reverse course and go 9 – 18 in May.
We are both scoring and giving up less runs than the league average. That’s really good for the pitchers and defense. It is also REALLY bad for the offense.
We’ve had a couple of injuries.
RP Mike Zagurski went to the DL for two-weeks.
CF Willie Taveras joined him and is on the DL for another 2 weeks, and 3 weeks in total.
RF Scott Cousins was on the DL for 2 weeks, and when he came back found he had lost his job to Brandon Moss.
There were a couple of interesting trades in the leage
The Los Angeles Dodgers sent SP Kevin Milwood, P Greg Miller and C Chris Ianetta to the San Diego Padres for RP Joe Thatcher and some crap; Pitchers Steve Garrison and Drew Miller
The Kansas City Royals sent C Buster Posey to Tampa Bay for P Scott Kazmir in a move I came close to overturning, but didn’t.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
RE Jeepguy: Sho' Nuff.
So, one great month. One terrible month, and an average month. I feel a little bit like Goldilocks.
http://i608.photobucket.com/albums/t.../JuneStand.jpg
Injuries have been racking up:
3B Craig Allen is out 5 weeks from June 8th
P Anthony Swarzak missed 2 weeks
2B Travis Denker might make it back this season, or might not
The same goes for P Jeff Marquez
Unfortunately, the guys that I drafted won't be ready nearly soon enough to help out.
1-2: C Richie Eskridge-18 (63): 94 Arm at 18. Might hit a little bit too
2-2: P Sean Thorp-20 (49): 70% GB rate should play well in Foro Sol
3-2: 3B Shawn Macey-17 (49): He's got 60's all across the board (Contact, Power, Speed and Eye. Unfortunately, also in Range)
4-2: RP Chris Schendel-20 (46): Also a ducking-worm inducing 70% GB rate
5-2: RP Kevin Ramsbottom-20 (46): His splitter gets 55% GBs
6-2: CF Travis Felt-21 (54): He's fast, might be able to handle Cuerno Del Toro in CF.
We SIGNED one player:
SS Hector Luna-32 (75) for 1 year and $600K ($311,111 for the remainder of the season) to replace Travis Denker.

ERA of 4.73, WHIP of 1.44 and DICE of 4.38 on the road

w00t love the home/road splits. Props to Mizerak; can't wait to use it in my dynasty at the end of the month.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
RE 200Yeah, Les Miz is the man!
So, something doesn't add up...
Our hitting is MUCH better at home than on the road
Our pitching is pretty much equal
You'd think our record at home must be much better than our road record.
HOME: 22 - 19
ROAD: 21 - 20

Probably because the other teams are hitting just as good in your stadium?
-
Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
If our HITTING: HOME > AWAY
and our PITCHING: HOME = AWAY
Then our record should be HOME > AWAY
should it not?
Pitching stays constant, hitting increases, wins should increase
-
Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
No because:
Their Hitting: YOUR HOME > THEIR HOME
Their Pitching: YOUR HOME = THEIR HOME
Runs Scored:
YOU: Home > Road
OPP: Your Home > Their Home
-
Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Well there are lots of things that could happen. Are your pitchers consistent? If your pitchers give up a ton of runs in one game and then throw a shutout the next it'll look the same as if the starter had 2 good games. Another thing to consider is how good the other teams are at sustaining rallies. If they bunch all their hits together at one point and your team scatters all their hits you have a worse chance of winning despite getting more hits. Unearned runs, etc...
You're probably just unlucky so far.

Looks like we've settled into a groove. I wish it was the same groove we were in in April, but, alas, not bad for an expansion team.

We had a couple more INJURIES. Nothing TOO serious though.
C Yadier Molina missed two weeks and
RF Scott Cousins did as well.
It was a quiet TRADE deadline:
Los Rojos Diablos made no moves.
Potato's Luck traded RP Chad Cordero-30 (81) for P Danny Hariston-21 (48) of the Brewers.
Cincinnati sent P Craig Hanson-28 (84) to the Padres for RF Richie Robnett-38 (83) and C Josh Bard-34 (65)
And the Rays made a huge splash by acquiring P Roy Halladay-35 (92) for P Jose Carza-23 (72)

August was tough for us. 11 - 18 and likely falling out of any type of contention for a 1st year in existence playoff spot.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
The final week of the season. We're 79 - 79 in 3rd place in the NL West and eliminated from the playoffs.
At least we have something to fight for. A winning record and a batting title for James Loney as we go head-to-head with the Pirates and McCutchen.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Even though we finished under .500 and Loney missed out on the batting title, all in all it was a successful first season for Los Diablos Rojos.
http://i608.photobucket.com/albums/t.../SeptStand.jpg
A three-way tie between the Braves, Cardinals and D-Backs to end the season was settled with a couple of play-off games:
First, the Cardinals beat the D-Backs 6 – 2, then they beat the Braves 5 – 1.

Obviously a lot of offense with James Loney leading the way. Chris Pettit and Yadier Molina also stood out. Tulowitzki's number look good for a shortstop but we were expecting a bit more with his playing in Foro Sol.
Third basemen Allen Craig and James Darnell both put up good numbers in their first big league opportunities.
Young catcher Devin Mesoraco destroyed the ball in a September call-up making a case to be on the big club next year.
Young shortstop Reynaldo Navarro also impressed.

The pitching exceeded my most optimistic expectations. Two starters managed ERA's under 4.00 and none of my regular starters had ERA's over 5.00. We have 7 starters looking for 5 spots next year. We should be good again.
The bullpen also performed well. Josh Fields was very hard to hit and Ramon Troncoso stood out as well.

Troy Tulowitzki won a Gold Glove for his play at short. I thought Chris Pettit had a shot at one as well. I tried to be very conscious of putting together a good defensive team knowing that limiting runners and runs would be paramount in the new stadium. They guys with the gloves deserve as much credit as the guys throwing the ball from the mound.
We averaged 88,000+ fans for our home games, selling out 41 games. We finished in the black for the season making a profit of $7 million while investing heavily in our future-Farm and Scouting.
We did have the league’s lowest payroll, by a significant margin. So, we’ll need to continue bringing the fans in to remain financially viable. (Remember, I’ll be dropping the Fan Base by 5% for both the Diablos Rojos and the Luck)
Most importantly, we finished with a better record than our co-expansioners, the Luck (70 – 92).

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Wow the Lucks pitching was just terrible and it looks like they had a nice amount of injuries. Things are looking good for you though; is anybody up for ARB/FA this year?

You win this round, fili...
Maybe a team nickname change to something more menacing will provide more wins. How about the Lions? Or Maulers? Or Trannies?

That is possibly the smartest GM move ever :p I would vote for the Lions out of those.

Las Vegas Luck Gamble on Name CHANGE
Citing the 2008 Tampa Rays as precedent, the Las Vegas Luck have announced they are changing their name in an attempt to shed their losing ways.
Said team owner, Frank Fertita:
"We are cutting ties with that old name, the Luck. Unfortunately luck sometimes goes both ways. We want our new name to reflect that we are firmly committed to a singular focus. I am proud to announce that the new name of the Las Vegas Major League Baseball franchise is...the Trannies"
RE Potato: There you go, best of...uhh...luck. It's good to see that your interest in and influence on the team didn't end when the expansion draft did.
RE 200tang: That's coming up in the next post

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Well if they don't succeed this year then the failure lie squarely on the shoulders of POC now.
Also, WOW DAVID PRICE, A Cy Young with a 3.88 ERA and 155K in 215.2IP? Be grateful for your 21 wins ><. Either the wins pushed him over the edge or the AL had some ridiculously weak pitching.

The following players’ contracts are expiring at the end of the season:
Code:
P Roster Player Name Salary Years PlyOpt TeamOpt Arb F/A MLB Service
2B Bench Polanco, P. $3,250,000 1 None None No Yes 13 years, 160 days
SS (AAA) Luna, Hector $600,000 1 None None No Yes 6 years, 103 days
LF (AAA) Francisco, Ben $33,300 Arb '13 None None Yes No 2 years, 143 days
RF RF Cousins, Scott $420,000 Arb '12 None None Yes No 3 years, 77 days
SP St#2 Hochevar, Luke $2,300,000 1 None None Yes No 4 years, 148 days
RP Short Zagurski, Mike $1,000,000 1 None None Yes No 3 years, 111 days
2B Placido Polanco asked for 2 years and $4,500,000. Travis Denker played well before getting injured and I’ll make an $8 million gamble that he’ll play well again. Not resigned.
RF Scott Cousins asked for $3,750,000 which seems pretty high for a guy who couldn’t hit for most of the season. We counter with $2.75 million citing his poor offensive stats in a hitters park. The arbitrator agrees with us.
LF Ben Francisco thinks that his 55 at bats warrant a raise to $1,150,000. We disagree, thinking maybe half of that sounds reasonable. The arbitrator, Francisco’s cousin, agrees with Ben.
2B Hector Luna asks for a threefold raise after appearing in 15 games. We wish him the best.
SP Luke Hochevar also wants to triple his $2.3 million salary, asking for $7.25 million. Luke had a good year and we offer $6.25. We win.
RP Mike Zagurski won a million dollars in arbitration last year after posting a 7+ ERA. When he asks for $2.45 this year we get nervous and counter with a higher than anticipated $1.75 million. We ‘win’ this one as well.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Signed OF Ichiro Suzuki for 2 years at $5.8 million a year. At 39 Ichiro is almost assuredly past his peak but should still be a productive player. He hit .325/.376/.417 last year and still has Gold Glove caliber defense. His ability to spray the ball all around the field, speed, and outstanding defense make him a perfect fit for Foro Sol. I was this close [ ] to picking him in the expansion draft last year, but had $17 million reasons not to. For about a third of that, we welcome Ichiro to Mexico with open arms.
In an unrelated move, CF Willie Taveras was traded to the Mets for 1B John Dewarrenne-20 (58). Dewarrenne is a rare right-handed batter with an exceptional eye. We'll see if he develops the power for the position as his defensive skills won't allow a move to any other position.

I didn't know DarthJaker worked with Las Vegas. :D

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
TO ALL:
The new nickname of the Las Vegas franchise was not inspired by our friend DJ. It was merely one of the finalists to convey a more menacing image for our franchise.
The Trannies apoligize for any confusion, and any irreparable damage to DJ's reputation.
