Thoughts on updates - Well it looks like San Fransisco just got all of their second basemen poached :p. Denker is much better with the bat which in my eyes pushes Manzella down to the bench as a great MI utility player. Defensively Denker is quite the downgrade, but he still does have the glovework of an average second basemen. Reynaldo Navarro is an interesting case. He's only 22 and still has room to grow as a switch hitting shortstop, but with Tulo in front of him it's hard to see a place for him at shortstop anytime soon. I believe he'll make the conversion to third or second base either this year. If Fili decides to pluck a third basemen then I will be stumped on where Navarro fits in to this team and would have to assume he's a minor/bench player.
----
Figures after the last thing I said about Navarro a third basemen with potential gets picked. Darnell is an all-around balanced player who does everything, but nothing amazing. He's VERY comparable to Adrian Beltre without the amazing defense. The other taken with Darnell is right fielder Scott Cousins. He is probably the best example of a 5 tool player taken in this draft so far. The defense and pitching are that much better with this guy in the lineup and he should be one of the Diablos' best players.

Thoughts on updates - Yonder Alonso will definitely need to be upgraded eventually either during the year via trade or in the off season. Alonso is a candidate of receiving a miracle boost to his overall due to playing time and recapturing some of the potential he had, but if he doesn't he can expect to see himself put up poor numbers for a first basemen and relegated to bench duty next season. Ah Blake Beaven(SP) was picked up. I helped make the Texas protection list and, despite high ratings, I never really thought this guy would amount to much. Beaven is still a solid pickup and deserves the shot to break in to the rotation or convert to a reliever. Personally I would slide him in to my short relief role and let him figure things out and once his endurance decreases to about 70 I would stick him back in the rotation. He does have the upside of a #2 pitcher if he gets some miracle boost, but as a #5/4 pitcher he's great.
----
Well it looks like Michael Cuddyer's starting job was short lived. Cuddyer and Lewis are both offensively equal with Lewis getting the slight advantage due to his speed, but defensively Lewis is the better left fielder. The only thing Cuddyer can brag about would be his arm which is of little use in left field. Lewis will be one of the harder players to place in the lineup for POC but there are a few options that work best for him. The other chosen with Lewis, Robinzon Diaz(C), is a fine defensive sub making a league minimum 420k till 2014. Besides being known for his defense he does make good contact and can definitely help move a guy over in the few AB's he figures to get.

Thoughts on updates - With another third basemen being chosen I feel pretty confident that Fili will send Navarro and Darnell down to the minors to continue to improve with the possibility of being called up at some point in the year. Allen Craig is a great third basemen offensively and defensively should figure to be average. Another thought could be Darnell at third and Craig at first, but we'll have to wait and see what else Fili chooses to draw that conclusion. Picked up with him was reliever Fernando Hernandez from the Oakland Athletics. I feel confident that he'll end up in short relief and this should bump Josh Fields up to setup man. Fernando comes with a 4 pitch repertoire which is nice to see from a reliever and mixes in a fine balance of CON/POW/MOV.
-----
Both Moss and Revere figure to be bench outfielders, but with 2 different roles. Moss has the bigger role as he can hit and field pretty much league average with an emphasis on his range and power. Moss looks to be their bench power lefty and with the added bonus of great defense he's one of the better picks in my book. Revere is pretty much a pinch runner and nothing more with the upside of a defensive sub in the future. Seriously, this kid will leave charred earth in his tracks, that's how fast he is; he could steal 60+ bases if he played a full seasons worth. Revere looks to become a fan favorite for those who enjoy base stealers.

Thoughts on updates - Konerko adds great defense and offense in one nice package to a team was in need of a serious home run threat. Not much to say about Konerko, everyone knows him. The one question I do have is why was Alonder Alonso chosen first or even chosen at all? The only thing I can see him as, besides a backup, is a DH but you can definitely find something better. Edgar Renteria looks to be the starter this season over Will Middlebrooks. Just like Konerko, we're all very familiar with his skills. This move should push Middlebrooks down to the minors since the Vegas being an AL team would mean very little at bats for him on the bench.
-----
Brandyon Lyon was taken from LA and he seems like a better fit closing than Chad Cordero does which now makes the Cordero pick seem odd unless POC does use Cordero as his closer. His bullpen is shaping up great though and besides the high price of the relievers so far they're all solid. Well....all except Juan Morillo anyways. If you like a pitcher who walks a ton of guys and give up a fair share of hits with the possibility to strike out the side then Morillo is your kind of pitcher. I expect him to be their MR since he really isn't suited to pitch that many innings. He's really a head scratcher for me.

Thoughts on updates - Eddie Kunz is basically cheap depth and a middle reliever. His best asset is striking out players with his worst being that he fails to locate his pitches anywhere near the strike zone and when he does they're usually right down the middle resulting in lots of hits and home runs. Watching him pitch makes one wish for the sweet embrace of some sort of eye cancer. The other player taken with him is young starting pitcher Neil Ramirez. It looks like Fili had to dive in to his Nationals bag of tricks. Ramirez looks like he'll eventually become a productive power pitcher. Ramirez is a great pitcher with lots of room to improve. Look for him in another year and a half to break in to the rotation.
------
Robert Hernandez is a pitcher with a decent enough repertoire for his age and decent control and movement. He's pretty much a depth move so there isn't much to say. The other pitcher taken with him is Luis Pena. With Pena in the bullpen this leaves Kunz likely to be the odd man out. There's nothing that Kunz does better than Pena and they even have the same pitches although Pena throws the more difficult change.

Thoughts on updates - AH HA! I thought you would choose Ruiz soon. I've never been a big fan of carrying 3 catchers in BM, but it's never a bad thing and Ruiz definitely has the defensive capabilities. Ruiz will likely end up higher in the food chain than Diaz due to a much better OBP and defensive skills, but they'll each have their own roles to fill. With the addition of southpaw McBride it now confirms, in my mind, that Morillo will be used as a middle reliever. McBride has a pretty horrid recent history, but he is much better than that. He should post a high 3 ERA if he performs like he should.
------
Well Seth Smith adds more depth to an already deep outfield core and with this move it pushes Yonder Alonso up to the DH role or possibly first base with Konerko moving to the DH (Despite Konerko being more susceptible to injury, he's the better fielder). Seth Smith will probably end up on the bench or become a depth AAA OF who will be called up during injuries. He's pretty much a league average fielder defensively and offensively who can only play right and a little left field. Also chosen was New York reliever Kevin Whelan who, just like Morillo, struggles with his command while posting high strikeout rates. Between the two Morillo has the better stuff by a bit which pushes Whelan down to AAA.
It seems like every time I think I'm caught up and get my rosters posted you guys suddenly draft like 100 players :p

Thoughts on updates - Well the Diablos finally have their first basemen with the addition of James Loney. Loney is a great pickup and although he leaves some desiring more power from first base his glove work and contact make up for the dip in power compared to other power hitting first basemen. The final pick for the Diablos in the first round was starting pitcher Luke Hochevar and his insane repertoire. Okay..not insane, but it is a nice mix of pitches. Him and Luebke figure to battle for the long reliever role with no clear cut winner by physical talent alone.

Thoughts on updates - If my roster is close to what POC is thinking than I'm not sure I like Weeks much on the bench. Of course that all changes if he plans to carry Middlebrooks on the team. Going by what I have however, he now has 2 catchers, 2 outfielders (Gwynn could be a pinch runner too), and a second basemen with some speed who should only play second base. With Middlebrooks on the team anytime Renteria is injured Middlebrooks should get the call up so what POC needs to find in my opinion is another third basemen (hint : Mark Reynolds/Brandon Inge). Also being picked up is reliever Matt Walker. He fits the description of most of the relivers who were picked recently, walks a lot of batters while striking out a fair share. He does have the benefit of limiting hits and decent enough endurance to be a long reliever.
-----
The final choice of the first round was outfielder Matt Diaz. POC sure does have a mind like Bowden :p. Diaz could possibly be a DH if POC doesn't mind the lack of walks Diaz will take, but I think Yonder Alonso has the slight edge in overall offensive production. I'll put Diaz up on my bench with Cuddyer getting booted down to AAA, but all of the OF on this roster are interchangeable in my eyes.

THE DRAFT IS OVER
That was one of the most exhausting things i've ever done involving a video game. It was great fun though. Maybe I'll do another one ;) Thanks, for the millionth time - but still a millions thanks shy - to everyone who helped out. It made this a lot more interesting than if I'd just done it on spread sheets.
Unfortunately, I am so burnt out on Baseball Mogul, that I don't think I'll ever play the game again until 2K10 comes out...:)
I'm glad we could finish this massive undertaking today. Hopefully we can get into the real action now! :D

thanks to 200tang, whose insight was instrumental for some of my picks! :D

Second Round Player by Player
Brian Jeroloman(C) - He should project to be their starting opening day catcher with great offensive and defensive capabilities. After reviewing all the catchers I've bumped Devin down the minors and think Jeroloman has what it takes to be the starting catcher.
Ben Francisco(LF) - He's going to add depth to an already deep OF. He'll either make the team on the bench and push Navarro down to the minors to get some playing time down there or end up in the minors at AAA.
Gaby Sanchez(1B) - Huh? And I repeat Huh? Sanchez is a fine addition and is even attached to a decent $6 million salary. The only problem is that they already have Loney and playing in the NL makes me wonder where he fits in. Neither Loney or Sanchez can play 3B even at an average level, but I find it hard to believe he picks up Sanchez without some sort of plan. I'm guessing if he doesn't mind giving up a lot of defense Sanchez will play at third and he'll leave Loney at first. This would push Craig to the bench and Darnell to the minors.
Caleb Gindl(RF) - Hmm another good OF. I think that Brandon Moss will get booted to the minors. Moss provides more offensive power than Gindl, but other than that there isn't anything you can say Moss does significantly better and defensively it isn't a contest with Gindl having the advantage.
Ramon Troncoso(RP) - A nice pickup and despite a rough track record he should be pretty good although not great. His control and power are a bit too low to offset the movement imo, but you could make a case for starting him.
Jeremy Bonderman(SP) - The track record is pretty bad, but for someone with the CON/POW/MOV he has it's hard to believe it. I'm not sure if he has enough talent to make the rotation, but he should be arguably the best long reliever in the league.

Second Round Player by Player
Mark Reynolds(3B) - Not sure if POC had him on his list or got the idea from the last post, but Reynolds is a power hitting third basemen with average skills everywhere else. Last year in Arizona he posted a .371 OBP and 26 home runs in 318 AB's and will be another great power bat and will compliment Konerko (or the other way around) very well. To my knowledge he's the first player who's contract will end this year, but a rent a player at the cost of a second round pick is still a great idea. Who knows, maybe he puts up impressive numbers and Vegas decides to keep him. Reynolds looks like he'll push D'Antona to the bench with Robinzon Diaz getting kicked down to the minors as an emergency catcher.
Barry Enright(SP) - Enright is a 25 year old WIP. He never projects to be better than a #3 pitcher in my eyes, but he looks like he has a solid future. He could be used as a long reliever since the Luck's current one doesn't have much in the way of endurance, but I think he'll end up pitching in the minors. Could Enright have been chosen to prevent Fili from dipping in to the WSN pool of players? Who knows. (except POC of course)
Robbie Ross(SP) - Another WIP like Enright, but much younger (22) and has the added value of being a southpaw. There are health concerns with Ross, but he should be durable enough to have a starting gig until his 30's once he makes it out of the minors.
Jeff Steiner(1B) - A power/contact hitter with average defensive skills, Steiner looks to be at best a power lefty bench bat with the possibility of starting at third base if developed enough defensively.
Charlie Culberson(SS) - Another WIP player. Culberson looks like he'll become a wiz with the glove and his offense should come around to at least league average. He'll have to compete with Middlebrooks for a future starting gig. Assuming POC doesn't forget that having 2 position players at the same level hurts development, expect to see him in AA next year.
Scot Shields(RP) - I won't say much because everybody knows him at this point. He provides a nice backup option and you could make a case he's better than Morillo, but I see him working in AAA until needed.

With all due respect to 200tang (and his blatant Luck-leaning insights), whenever there is a draft, what we really want to know is 'Who won?' and 'Who lost?' Well, here is our answer.
http://i608.photobucket.com/albums/t...aftlineups.jpg
I won! Big time! At least according to the folks at the BM ratings department
:D
Where will Loney end up once he's healthy?
Whoa, Juan Morillo is closing?! I had him as MR at best >.>
Oh yeah, what's the +/- to scouting?
That looks good, albeit a little more highly-rated than I usually see (or like to have) with an expansion team, but every "GM" you used had different criteria on who to protect and who not to protect, so that makes sense. I'm looking forward to following this dynasty, if for nothing else to see the Mexico City offense.
BRING BACK 14-12 WINS!
I also went about a quarter of a trizzillion dollars over my budget, so that might have put my ratings a bit higher than they would have been otherwise.
:confused:Quote:

Didn't you see all the pitchers and defense I drafted???
What have I done? I went from 'kid who likes baseball' to 'baseball fan' watching the 1988 Dodgers and Orel Hershiser's 59 consecutive scoreless innings. I feel sick.
I would like to thank YOU for such a fun idea, and if you're burnt out I hope when you do come back to it you'll continue this league. In fact, I was actually wondering if you might post the .mog file of the league after the draft so maybe I could play around with it????? Sorry, like I said, I'm now attached to this league, and the draft just made it even more interesting. What a great idea!
I will definitely continue this league. I'm trying to figure out in what capacity exactly.
I've been trying to upload .mogs for days with no success. So take that up with Dee...I have 2 for the Nats dynasty that need to go up, and one for this one.
RE Binngle, OFG:I guess. It was always nice to upload the .mog though. I could save a copy for any future reference, and anyone could check it out if they wanted...oh well. If anyone wants to see the .mog shoot me a PM with an email address.
OFG, Thanks! I thought it was a cool idea when it light the bulb over my head. And it was good fun.
One more opportunity for me to thank everyone who helped out. Thanks!!!
Rojos Diablos Announce (ahem) Draft Day Trade
Minutes (days?) after finishing the expansion draft Los Rojos Diablos announced they have completed a trade. The Diablos exchanged SP Jeremy Bonderman for first baseman Eric Hosmer of the Milwaukee Brewers. Hosmer hit .323 with 35 HR and 112 RBI in AA last year.
Bonderman, 12 - 14 5.19 with the Tigers, adds an experienced starting pitcher capable of throwing 200 innings and dominating on occasion to the Brewers thin staff.
So, you send your possible #2 Starter (as you had listed, not 200Tang) for a power hitting 1B in AA? Even with the previous years sketchy numbers, 200 possible innings is a lot to give up on. I don't know what kind of money Bonderman was costing but hopefully, it won't come back to haunt you.
Of course, if Hosmer continues to hit for high average and power, you'll look like a genius once again.

Los Diablos Rojos sign Tavares
Los Diablos Rojos signed free agent centerfielder Willie Tavares today to a two-year worth $1.9 million.
Tavares is known as a defense first CFer who won a gold glove with the Rockies in 2009. Last year, playing for Houston, Tavares hit .284 in 144 games with 7 home runs and 46 steals.
FYI It's Taveras you switch the E and the last A
Actually it is Willy not Wily
RE The Spelling and Grammar Crew:Who knew that Will he tap our ass' name was so difficult to spell?
RE Jeepguy:They were both my second choice, and I'm having a twinge of buyers' remorse. I originally wanted Orlando Hudson and David Desus, who are both much better players. Especially DeJesus.
You're better off without Bonderman, I had him as your long reliever for a reason :P
I predict a high 4 ERA for him this year :>
RE 200tang:Just imagine what it would be in Nueva Foro Sol

Los Diablos Fire TNP as Media Director and Sign a New Catcher
Los Diablos Rojos signed catcher Yadier Molina to a 2 year deal worth $3.05 million. Molina is one of the best defensive catchers in baseball. In my time with the Nationals I hardly dared to send Tony Thomas when Yadier was behind the plate. I'm very happy to have him squatting in Nueva Foro Sol for the next two years.
Yadier is 2nd in Runners Thrown Out % among active catchers (LA's Russ Martin is first) and 10th in total Runners Thrown Out.
The MOG file works on Sendspace... good call.
Double good call on Yadier Molina. When I play a modern day sim, I always find a way to get either him or Russell Martin behind the plate, and Molina is much easier to trade for. Forget about his hitting and go for the good D. Then again, it'll be interesting to see how well he hits in Mexico City.
Credit where Credit is due. I just hadn't gotten around to it yet.
But I get ALL the credit for Molina ;)
ROUND ONE (POSITION PLAYERS) OF THE PARITY DRAFT

*NOTE The Luck and Diablos Rojos were excluded from all phases of this draft
Diablos Rojos send Sanchez to Cubs for a Pair
With Loney on the roster there was no need for Gabby Sanchez. I drafted him with the idea of trading him.
I pick up SS Bryant Williams-23 (49) and SP Kenny Crean-19 (49).
Williams might end up as a back-up, or he might spend his career in the minors. The key to the deal was (dumping payroll) Crean. I have NOTHING in my low minors since the expansion draft protected players below AA. Crean has two years in rookie ball and will start there this year but has the potential to be "the key pitcher in on [sic] the Diablos Rojos roster".
Opening Day 2012
Couldn't have asked for more interesting matchups.
Los Diablos Rojos are at Foro Sol against...the Washington Nationals
In the American League, the Las Vegas Luck play there first ever game in New Yankee Stadium.
*I'll be playing opening day in PbP mode, because, well, I want to
