Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
The final week of the season. We're 79 - 79 in 3rd place in the NL West and eliminated from the playoffs.
At least we have something to fight for. A winning record and a batting title for James Loney as we go head-to-head with the Pirates and McCutchen.

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Even though we finished under .500 and Loney missed out on the batting title, all in all it was a successful first season for Los Diablos Rojos.

A three-way tie between the Braves, Cardinals and D-Backs to end the season was settled with a couple of play-off games:
First, the Cardinals beat the D-Backs 6 – 2, then they beat the Braves 5 – 1.

Obviously a lot of offense with James Loney leading the way. Chris Pettit and Yadier Molina also stood out. Tulowitzki's number look good for a shortstop but we were expecting a bit more with his playing in Foro Sol.
Third basemen Allen Craig and James Darnell both put up good numbers in their first big league opportunities.
Young catcher Devin Mesoraco destroyed the ball in a September call-up making a case to be on the big club next year.
Young shortstop Reynaldo Navarro also impressed.

The pitching exceeded my most optimistic expectations. Two starters managed ERA's under 4.00 and none of my regular starters had ERA's over 5.00. We have 7 starters looking for 5 spots next year. We should be good again.
The bullpen also performed well. Josh Fields was very hard to hit and Ramon Troncoso stood out as well.

Troy Tulowitzki won a Gold Glove for his play at short. I thought Chris Pettit had a shot at one as well. I tried to be very conscious of putting together a good defensive team knowing that limiting runners and runs would be paramount in the new stadium. They guys with the gloves deserve as much credit as the guys throwing the ball from the mound.
We averaged 88,000+ fans for our home games, selling out 41 games. We finished in the black for the season making a profit of $7 million while investing heavily in our future-Farm and Scouting.
We did have the league’s lowest payroll, by a significant margin. So, we’ll need to continue bringing the fans in to remain financially viable. (Remember, I’ll be dropping the Fan Base by 5% for both the Diablos Rojos and the Luck)
Most importantly, we finished with a better record than our co-expansioners, the Luck (70 – 92).

Wow the Lucks pitching was just terrible and it looks like they had a nice amount of injuries. Things are looking good for you though; is anybody up for ARB/FA this year?

You win this round, fili...
Maybe a team nickname change to something more menacing will provide more wins. How about the Lions? Or Maulers? Or Trannies?

That is possibly the smartest GM move ever :p I would vote for the Lions out of those.

Las Vegas Luck Gamble on Name CHANGE
Citing the 2008 Tampa Rays as precedent, the Las Vegas Luck have announced they are changing their name in an attempt to shed their losing ways.
Said team owner, Frank Fertita:
"We are cutting ties with that old name, the Luck. Unfortunately luck sometimes goes both ways. We want our new name to reflect that we are firmly committed to a singular focus. I am proud to announce that the new name of the Las Vegas Major League Baseball franchise is...the Trannies"
RE Potato: There you go, best of...uhh...luck. It's good to see that your interest in and influence on the team didn't end when the expansion draft did.
RE 200tang: That's coming up in the next post

Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Well if they don't succeed this year then the failure lie squarely on the shoulders of POC now.
Also, WOW DAVID PRICE, A Cy Young with a 3.88 ERA and 155K in 215.2IP? Be grateful for your 21 wins ><. Either the wins pushed him over the edge or the AL had some ridiculously weak pitching.
Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)

The following players’ contracts are expiring at the end of the season:
Code:
P Roster Player Name Salary Years PlyOpt TeamOpt Arb F/A MLB Service
2B Bench Polanco, P. $3,250,000 1 None None No Yes 13 years, 160 days
SS (AAA) Luna, Hector $600,000 1 None None No Yes 6 years, 103 days
LF (AAA) Francisco, Ben $33,300 Arb '13 None None Yes No 2 years, 143 days
RF RF Cousins, Scott $420,000 Arb '12 None None Yes No 3 years, 77 days
SP St#2 Hochevar, Luke $2,300,000 1 None None Yes No 4 years, 148 days
RP Short Zagurski, Mike $1,000,000 1 None None Yes No 3 years, 111 days
2B Placido Polanco asked for 2 years and $4,500,000. Travis Denker played well before getting injured and I’ll make an $8 million gamble that he’ll play well again. Not resigned.
RF Scott Cousins asked for $3,750,000 which seems pretty high for a guy who couldn’t hit for most of the season. We counter with $2.75 million citing his poor offensive stats in a hitters park. The arbitrator agrees with us.
LF Ben Francisco thinks that his 55 at bats warrant a raise to $1,150,000. We disagree, thinking maybe half of that sounds reasonable. The arbitrator, Francisco’s cousin, agrees with Ben.
2B Hector Luna asks for a threefold raise after appearing in 15 games. We wish him the best.
SP Luke Hochevar also wants to triple his $2.3 million salary, asking for $7.25 million. Luke had a good year and we offer $6.25. We win.
RP Mike Zagurski won a million dollars in arbitration last year after posting a 7+ ERA. When he asks for $2.45 this year we get nervous and counter with a higher than anticipated $1.75 million. We ‘win’ this one as well.
Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
Signed OF Ichiro Suzuki for 2 years at $5.8 million a year. At 39 Ichiro is almost assuredly past his peak but should still be a productive player. He hit .325/.376/.417 last year and still has Gold Glove caliber defense. His ability to spray the ball all around the field, speed, and outstanding defense make him a perfect fit for Foro Sol. I was this close [ ] to picking him in the expansion draft last year, but had $17 million reasons not to. For about a third of that, we welcome Ichiro to Mexico with open arms.
In an unrelated move, CF Willie Taveras was traded to the Mets for 1B John Dewarrenne-20 (58). Dewarrenne is a rare right-handed batter with an exceptional eye. We'll see if he develops the power for the position as his defensive skills won't allow a move to any other position.

I didn't know DarthJaker worked with Las Vegas. :D
Re: Los Diablos Rojos del México (2012 Expansion)
TO ALL:
The new nickname of the Las Vegas franchise was not inspired by our friend DJ. It was merely one of the finalists to convey a more menacing image for our franchise.
The Trannies apoligize for any confusion, and any irreparable damage to DJ's reputation.
