Heard he's lost 25 pounds when the Rangers signed him.
Wouldn't that just suck if he comes back and hits .285 with 40 dingers and 120 RBI's???
Seems to be the Dodgers luck these days.

Re: Who do you consider the all-time Home Run King?
I still consider Hank Aaron the all time home run leader because all my life he is the leader... and it still hasn't sunk in that Bonds has hit 762 yet. When people ask me who has the most home runs of all time, I usually say Aaron at 755, then I correct myself and say Bonds, but 90% of the time I still think it's Aaron.
Also, something about metsguy post that Bonds is a mediocre OF, I have to agree. In 2006 and 2007, he averaged about a .270 average, 27 homers, 75 runs, 70 RBIS, and only around 95 hits. Yes, he still had an amazing OBP and SLG percentages, but he could no longer field, he only had 188 put outs and 6 assists in 2006, and 162 and 2 in 2007, when before that he was getting over 250 and 8 consistently. Plus, he is now 44. Throw in the fact that he is a horrible person personality wise and with the media, and many teams would definitely not want to sign him.
I'm not surprised he was "blackballed" (which he wasn't). No team wanted him. End of story.
-
Re: Who do you consider the all-time Home Run King?
Also, the whole steroids scandal would also make him unwanted by many teams.

You don't just get to dismiss the amazing OBP and SLG just because it doesn't fit your argument. It's the entire reason why he wasn't a mediocre outfielder. And according to advanced defensive metrics, he was below average but not terrible in the field. His bat was certainly good enough to support his glove even if he was the worst defensive left fielder in the league (which he wasn't).

LOL, I used to like him OK, until last year.
As someone who pulls for the Dodgers nearly as hard as I pull for my Nats, I really got tired of seeing him wave at 3 balls anywhere near the plate and turn around and walk back to the dugout.
I mean, that guy was BAD last year. Not mediocre, not struggling, HE SUCKED. He looked like he wasn't seeing the ball well, he looked lost at the plate.
And while I agree, I would love to see all players that go through that turn it around, it just sucks for the Dodgers sake because of what they went through AND the fact they're still paying him millions of dollars.

Re: Who do you consider the all-time Home Run King?
..but for real though..records suck. No way to compare players from one era to another era. Too many differences, with steroids just being one of them. Barry Bonds is technically the "MLB Home Run King" because he has the most on record and that's fine...but really, I couldn't care less.

I don't see .285/40/120, since even his best seasons weren't like that (though he had higher BA, HRs and RBIs, in different seasons), though I assume you're being facetious. :)
I do see him bouncing back somewhat... maybe .250/.330/.440 with 25ish HR? Hey, who knows, he's only 32... But as much as there are rumors of him losing weight, there's factual evidence that he's been SUCKING in winter ball, so it's hard to say what he'll do.
Still, I'm glad he's gone, no matter how many HRs he hits from here on out. It's an embarrassing chapter in recent Dodger history that I want to see closed.

This is a point that I think more people need to understand.

And I pretty much agree with your sentiment about records... I was about to post something saying that a HR record is overrated anyway, and is more meaningful to the absolutely most casual fan possible than it is to anyone who really follows the game, even half-assed.

Jones probably had the worst season any player has ever had in the history of baseball, considering what he was paid. I'll take 2002 Darren Dreifort or 2008 Jason Schmidt over 2008 Andruw Jones ANY DAY. At least they didn't take the field and hurt their teams' chances of winning.

Re: Who do you consider the all-time Home Run King?
what has confused me the most about the Dodgers is how they sign all these bust players, but trade a player like Piazza away.

What!?!? The Dodgers used to have Pedro!? They traded him!? To who? Who did they get in return!?!?
:)

LOL, see told you you they'd like to forget it!
They traded the wrong brother!! (Though Ramon was a stud for a couple of years, gotta admit that ;))

Apparently a large portion of the population believes 755 is greater than 762.

Yep. It is extremely obvious that 868 is greater than both 762 and 755

Yep. Sadaharu Oh has hit more home runs than anybody else in a professional baseball league, I'm pretty sure. But, I'm also pretty sure that that's not what the question is asking (even though the wording is vague, we all know what the question is). :)

Fixing bugs 25 hours per day really helps me lose weight. Because I have to jog into the next time zone every day, all while typing at a computer keyboad.
-
Re: Who do you consider the all-time Home Run King?
Ah, so it's actually the jogging that helped you to lose the weight. What type of diet did you have during your Gumplike jogging expedition?
