That is true, I am not sure who either knows the story or made up the story first.

While the media did no doubt build Junior up, I'm not sure that they can really have been said to have "destroyed" Bonds. Yeah, even before the steroids issue came up, a lot of people didn't like him, and some of that was fueld by the way the media portrayed him, but saying that he was destroyed by the media implies that he was targeted for unfair coveage. I don't really see that--if any play at the time was being targeted, I'd say it was Albert Belle.
that says it all right there. why the media can't just "report" and instead needs to build heroes and villains is beyond me.Quote:

He is just as innocent and/or guilty as everyone else who played in the era, of which many are often unfairly criticised and labelled as questionable roid users. For some reason however its viewed as blasphemy by many to put Griffey in the same pool as they put so many others in.Quote:
Saying Griffey did steroids is nonsense but saying he was part of the Steriod Era isn't. IF there is proof then I said castrate him, but since there isn't then he is innocent until proven guilty.
Exactly why I dislike him. Regardless of anything he did, for some reason he remained a media darling as if his sh!t didn't stink. I think you exaggerate somewhat him being an ass..thats kind of strong seeing as the media loved him because I suppose he was "accessible".Quote:
When Griffey played in Seattle he was an ass to the fans, media and ownership, he was a prema-donna.
I just don't like double standards.....and with Griffey/Bonds more than any it was clear to be one. Bonds was also an "ass to the fans, media, ownership...but he was "inaccessible" and for that was castrated by the media long before the steroid issue. The media shouldn't build heroes and villains.
I agree with dickay!
The Braves are apparently making a run at Griffey.
I had a dream when i was 10 that Griffey some day would win the world series as a member of the Braves. I also had another one with him as an Oirole.
I hope the Braves get him tbh >.> I would rather not have GA OR Griffey this year, it really doesn't make our team that much better imo.
I also wonder what they're going to do with him. No matter where he starts, his defense will negate a HUGE chunk of any offense he provides. He's going to be like Ibanez IMO, on the decline, horrible fielder with pretty good offense. Well...maybe not "pretty good" offense, but you get what I mean.
Strong side of a platoon at DH would make valuable use of his skills (which are basically limited to hitting righties).
I can't figure out why Atlanta would be going after him. I thought their outfield was pretty well set.
