Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I didn't realize I had him highlighted and I wasn't on ly list I was just poking thru other players looking for who I might draft in the last 2 or 3 rounds... then it was my pick and I forgot to go back to the list I had made and I hit draft.
I was LIVID... he was pretty high too :( like my 6th or 7th pick

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
LOL
I did something similar. I was looking around at other options, and then damned beeper went off saying I had 10 seconds left, and I'm thinking no way I'm getting the clicks right to get me back to that guy in 10 seconds.
So, I typed in his first name, and the guy came up, and with 1 second left I hit DRAFT, but IT WASN'T THE GUY I WANTED. LOL. Another guy with the same first name, LOL (I ain't saying cause I still want him, he's still available last time I looked).
Only, I don't know how to get rid of him, so I can sign the other one as a free agent.
It let me move him from my starting lineup to the bench, but I couldn't figure out how to release him.

If you're going to drop one guy to get another, the easiest way to do it is...
when you're looking at your team's roster, along the top you'll see Add Player (or it might just be Add, I can't remember). Pick that. Now, find the guy you want to add...once you select him, you will have to drop someone to open up a roster spot for him. Pick the guy you want to drop, and you'll exchange the two players. Also along the top there should be some sort of option to just Release a player.
Now, I don't know what your league's Waivers rules are and that might come in to play since it's post draft. If you have waivers, it would like a waiver rule in a real sports league...you all are ranked according to the reverse of your season records (obviously you don't HAVE any records yet, so it's probably either the same as what your draft order was, or reverse draft order). You put a claim on a guy, then wait whatever your waiver period is (usually 2 or 3 days)...after that time, whoever has the highest claim that put a bid in on the player gets them.
If you ARE on waiver rule right now, I'd just wait until it's over and swap them.

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
OFG : to drop and add players go to the "Players" tab at the top of the league and then find the player you want. You'll see a green "+" mark and if you click that you'll be able to choose who to drop to add the player.
EDIT : AB beat me to it ><

So when are you all going to post your rosters so we can tear them apart and make some early guesses on who will win the league?

Well nobody knew what was going to happen :)
It figures HGM sets the draft the day before everyone finds out A-Rod is gonna be gone lol
EDIT : I never realized how many injury risk players Justice has.
A-Rod
Utley
Konerko(minor)
Kerry Wood
Eric Bedard
Ben Sheets
Chipper Jones
Randy Johnson
and then he has Matt Holliday who could be in for a decline in Oakland.
Lots of upside though if those guys can stay healthy, which they all should be able to do (except Sheets of course).

Well, wanted Hideki Whateverhislastnameis, the relief pitcher in Boston, but when I typed in Hideki up popped Hideki Whateverhislastnameis, the DH/OF of the Yankees.
So, last night I did what you both suggested, (only I actually selected a different pitcher to add), and when I pressed the + sign to add a player, it did in fact ask me what player I wanted to drop.
So I picked Hideki Matsui (or whateverhislastnameis), and pressed submit changes or whatever.
I just went to my team a few minutes ago, and I still have Hideki on my team, and the new pitcher isn't on my team.

That's because currently all the undrafted players are on waivers. For players on waivers, you put a "claim" in on him. When the waiver date expires (March 7 for all the undrafted players), it looks at which teams placed a claim. Then, it looks at who has the higher waiver position, which you can see on the main standings screen. Of the claiming teams, whichever has the highest position gets the player then, and moves to the bottom of the waiver positions.
On March 7th, all the undrafted players that aren't claimed become free agents. When you want to add a free agent, the change happens immediately. Well, not immediately...it updates every morning. During the season, any players that are released from a team first get put on waivers for 2 days, and then become free agents.
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I promise to not go get him since I have priority on waivers :D

What Houston said. :)
Also, look up at the top and see what day's roster you're looking it...if it's later in the today, it's flipped forward to the next day and the change won't show until the next day.

Yeah, I get it (I think).
Thanks an awful lot for your help. I know it's gotta be hard to believe that someone that posts frequently on the internet really doesn't understand much about this stuff, but it's the truth.
I've heard of fantasy leagues, for years. Just never been a part of one.
So, I might (probably will) be asking some more dumb questions. :o
Like, could you take a look at our league and tell me which free agents I should sign????:p

It's not a problem, really. EVERYONE has had their first time in a fantasy league and was utterly lost, too. :)

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
Well,
Interesting. It seems I've done something someone whose played Yahoo fantasy leagues before can't explain. :D
I posted above about how I added a player, and selected a player to drop, and hit "Submit Changes" or whateverthehell that button is.
And I still had Hideki on my roster the next day (although at the top of the roster page there was some babble about waivers and the pitcher I had selected to replace him)
Then HGM posted, and I thought OK.
Then I look today, and find out I still don't have that player. OK, someone above me claimed him too (I was 9th on waivers).
THEN I find out the team that claimed him was 12th.
And now no one can explain to me WTF I did wrong.
I don't mind losing a guy because someone beat me to it. But it is beyond frustrating that I must've lost a guy because I don't have a clue what I'm doing.
And it's especially frustrating after spending the number hours I've spent reading.
At this point I'm inclined not to put in too many more hours, especially since someone came to my house and couldn't explain it to me. No way in hell I'm going to understand it by more reading and more PM's and more posts here.

The team that claimed the player you wanted is NOW ranked 12th in waiver priority, AFTER the waiver claim went through. Before that transaction occurred, he was probably higher in waiver priority than you.
Just a suggestion: If you post these concerns in the "Recent Messages" section of our league homepage, it would be helpful as well:D
btw, I'm Justice in our league.

Also, Hideki Okajima is still available... I'm not sure what the problem is...

Dammit, he (Gary, the friend who stopped by) didn't mention that! And I didn't ask. WTF? Did he not know this, or are these "changes" after a claim specific to our league?

The problem isn't Okajima (or the other guy either). The problem is if I don't know what I'm doing, then no matter what player I want or don't want I won't know how to make changes.
And sorry for posting here. This will be my last one. (Assuming of course, I can even figure out how to post there.)

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
All players are free agents now (except those recently dropped), so you should be able to go to the Players menu, add Okajima, drop someone else, and have it update for your next day's roster.

If you feel comfortable doing so, could you post your league's homepage so we can follow along?

As most likely the WORST finisher in this league, I would be OK with that, so long as YOU DO THE SAME. I can't, of course, speak for others, but even if the worst happens and I not only finish in last but it's embarrassing, I'm OK with it, SO LONG AS YOU DO THE SAME.
I just read your fantasy team. It seemed to excel on nothing, but not to be too weak on nothing either (although I liked your 3B :D). It was sort of where I was trying for, since I've never done it. Would you post here too???
Or post there???
I mean, I'm not trying to make fun or anything, believe me, nobody knows less than me about baseball fantasy leagues (well, yeah, there are, but nobody that PLAYS them).
I'm just sayin I won't object here if you won't object there cause the more information there is the more likely it is I'll learn something. Or not. Don't even know if that made sense.
Carry on.
