Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I'm running a rotisserie fantasy league on Yahoo. It's a 6 by 6 league, with the stat categories being:
Offense: HR, R, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS
Pitching: W, SV, K, ERA, H/9, BB/9
I split WHIP into H/9 and BB/9 to make it 6x6, but I don't think that's optimal...I just couldn't think of what other stat to use, so any suggestions would be welcome.
I'd like this to be a fun, but serious, league...meaning I don't want immaturity and nonsense. It's 12 players, so I need to fill it up. However, and I'm sorry for this, but it will not be on a strict first come, first serve basis. I have to make some judgment calls because, as I said, I want this to be a fun, serious, competitive league. So, post here if you're interested.

I am interested.
Live draft? And when would you be starting the league?
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
Sure, I love Roto. Yahoo lets you choose stats? And could you use OBP, and ad in another pitching stat to make it 7x7 maybe. I know you have OPS, but OBP would make it a little more challenging. I ran a roto league last year on Yahoo, and did not do great, but not awful. The year before I did pretty well, actually. So I have experience. And I have never done any stupid nonsense in fantasy before, so you don't have to worry about that. In fact, aside from fantasy related stuff, I barely talk in fantasy.

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I'd like to get in... I'm not great at it but I have one it before and would give it my all :D

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I am very intreagued by the catagories as well... i like the h/9 and bb/9 and the OPS instead of OBP is a good Idea for this type of league... gets yo to not stock up on a few Abreu's and makes you get some meaty longball hitters in there too :D
will be very well rounded teams also... I like it

I think OPS and OBP would be cool. Then you need your Daric Bartons and Abreus, and your longball guys. Or both combined. I do like having OPS though. And separating WHIP is pretty cool, meaning you need not only guys with control, but guys who don't give up many hits. And Houston, what about HR/9 innings? or Opponent OPS

There isn't enough disparity in HR/9...and opposing OPS isn't an option.

Yes, live draft. The draft date is tentatively set to Wednesday, March 4, at 7:00 PM. Obviously, though, once it fills up, I'll have to check with everybody to make sure that the time is good for everyone, and adjust it as needed.
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
At this point it might have to be about an hour or so later for me, I have tutoring Wednesdays that ranges around that time. I may not by then, however, in which case that time would work. But I doubt it will be over that soon.

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
Note to all...keep an eye on your PMs. I'll be sending PMs eventually to those that I'm letting in with the league ID and password.

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league

As a suggestion, the 6 X 6 leagues I've done have used these pitching categories.
W
SV
K
ERA
WHIP
K:BB ratio
Seems to work fairly well...
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I would suggest Innings Pitched as a pitching category. Otherwise you'll run into the situation where somebody could win the pitching rate categories with only a few pitchers actually pitching. That could lead to people winning half the pitching categories, punting W, SV, K and going all out on hitting.
As a longtime fantasy player, I have seen this kind of extreme managing.
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I believe you can set (or its given by default) a minimum number of innings pitched in order for your pitching stats to count for a certain time period.

Right. But it's possible to do something to the extreme of using ONLY relievers to achieve the innings pitched plateau and win the rate stats (ERA, H/9, BB/9), or something similarly heinous.

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
Oh yeah, I haven't mentioned this before...
I'm interested in signing up if you have space:D

What about DICE? or bb to kk ratio as one, and whip as the other?
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
thats why mine are set at 14 IP :D

DICE is not used on Yahoo, in fact I believe it is only used in Baseball Mogul. Correct me if I am wrong
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
Dice are used in Las Vegas as well.

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
:D
(I can't do that ^ without it coming out as :d unless i write something)

K:BB ratio is the first thing I thought of, but I wasn't sure. It seems multiple people agree with it, so I'll make it that.

I have it set to require 3 starting pitchers and 2 relief pitchers, plus 3 of any pitchers, which at least seems like it would help combat that.
I set it to K:BB ratio for now, but if a consensus develops of using innings, I'll be fine with that.

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
IP as a scoring category seems silly. You can make it where the minimum innings pitched is anywhere from 1-50 innings, so just do that to try to force people from not only relying on relievers (which I think would be the point of having IP as a category).
Just my opinion though..but I've never played in or seen a league with IP as a scoring category.
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I can't seem to find anywhere to set a minimum innings pitched.

I totally agree with everything you said. And I have in fact used IP in a league before, and it is pretty weird.

I'm sorry, I totally didn't realize it was a roto league. Sorry, ignore my advice on the minimum innings pitched. I was thinking this was a H2H league..I got this one mixed up with the other BM Fantasy league I joined.
Regardless..an IP scoring category would still seem silly.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, certainly, but I'm not sure why IP is such a silly notion as a counting stat for pitchers. I would think that for starting pitchers, the reward is that better pitchers and/or better single game performances result in more innings pitched, which is how you would win that category.
Although not perfect, an analogous fantasy offensive scoring stat would be hits. It's something every batter will get, but the better players and/or the better single game performances will rack up your hits totals. Much like innings pitched for pitchers.
But you're right in that it isn't a necessary pitching category. We only used it in 7x7 leagues to balance out the offensive scoring.
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I'm interested if there's still space, if not it's no big deal.

I don't think IP reflects a whole lot more than an ability to not get hurt. Some managers stretch their starters out more than others.....many reasons. It just seems silly to me. With hits, sure, more PT/ABs helps...but you still gotta get the hits. Just my opinion, as you say.
Given that this is a roto league..I don't think people going exclusively with RPs or anything like that is a concern.

Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I may be interested, yeah. I'm in another league on Yah-who - it's not too serious and a lot of fun. Drop me a PM and I'll see if I can do it.
And yeah, there is a setting in there that will give you minimum IP. I'm not sure exactly where, though.
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I'm already up to three leagues, so I'm gonna have to bow out of this one.
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
I've sent PMs to the following people:
Joe12Pack
TheNamelessPoet
gosensgo101
KowboyKoop
WHAK0985
YEAH DAAAAWG
200tang
oriole^
RedsoxRockies
If you didn't receive a PM, please post here. Assuming all nine of those posters do join, that leaves two openings. OldFatGuy, you're welcome to join and have a "reservation" on one of the final two spots, but I figured I'd let you look over the rules and all that before sending you the PM, so post here when you figure out if you want to play or not.
-
Re: Running a yahoo roto fantasy league
OFG... I'm in for helping... those who cant play reach right... :D I dont mind friendly advice... I am always looking to play with peeps :D
