The idea seems a little strange but I guess having him able to play second couldn't hurt. I'm surprised they did this after they went out and acquired Bloomquist this year and Collaspo last.

If Willie Bloomquist stops you from moving a superior player to second base, you've got issues.
If Teahen can handle second adequately, he's their best option there.
His bat definitely translates well, I just doubt his ability to play average defense at second base.
This is becoming idiotic.
3B --> LF ---> 2B??
What is idiotic about moving a player around to help a team??
Besides, he is only going to be "getting a look" at 2B. Last year, Olivo "got a look" in LF and Esteban German "got a look" at catcher. They didn't play one inning in those positions. It is highly, highly unlikely that Teahen becomes a second baseman....I wouldn't worry about it.
IF he could handle the position though....yes, he would be a good option for us...but I like Callaspo too. Seems a sure bet to put up a .350 or better OBP pretty easily....
Also, Bloomquist is not a candidate for the starting 2B job, no matter what Moore says. He's the utility guy. Callaspo is a near lock for the job, I think...I think this Teahen talk is just to push Callaspo...not let him think he is just guaranteed the spot....and hey, if by some miracle Teahen can do it..then great, he'll get the job, but that's too unlikely to consider right now. Callaspo will be the 2B, Bloomquist will be backup 2B, SS, 3B, and 5th OF...Teahen will be 4th OF and play some 1B and 3B if necessary. I'd say that is the overwhelminly likely scenario.
Yeah, there's absolutely nothing idiotic about moving a player around the diamond. In fact, it's probably done too little because teams would rather lock players into specific roles than allow for fluidity.
But having to learn 3 different positions while trying to improve your hitting.
to me those are 2 different things... no mater what position he is at... he will be working on his hitting. I think its a cery good idea and applaud the Royals for it. *ya hear that koop I APPLAUD the Royals :p )
I think more guys should be like that. Prado for the Braves can play 1B (in a pinch) 2B and 3B. Hell look ad Derosa... he can play everything basically but catcher on the field. I always thought it was a big mistake letting him walk in '04.
Yea, I just don't think it's a smart move
Correct.........learning is not hard as the principles of every position are similar,what is hard is achieving REASONABLE defensive skill & play.That is why Papi is not a SS nor Giambi a CF.....
& no Coaches DONT make a "huge deal" about it they simply state the fact that skills are necessary as well as instincts in order to be successful at Major League level.
