I'd guess the celebratory attitude and making a goal of reaching 100 points are probably what the headmaster was getting at. It's also probably relevant that they didn't fire him immediately. He posted his response on another site, then was fired and the head of the school was quoted as saying that now the coach "now only represents himself" when discussing the game. So it seems like at least in part they didn't like how he was representing the school after the game became an issue.Quote:

Well I hope the girls from the wining team are proud of themselves! How dare they play so well. Now their coach has lost his job. I hope they think twice before winning again! This should teach them that mediocrity is the rule of thumb now. It's ok to win but not by much. When faced with a weak opponent it is better to play poorly yourself so as to not make the weaker team look bad. We don't want the weaker players to feel bad. Cheering for the victor is bad as well.
Oh how I wish the game had ended 2-0......!

Yes they do....people felt bad...how dare they make people who could not perform well feel bad....that's not PC!
I'll say I can kind of see it from both sides. I would like to see tape of the game. The losing coach said that the game was taped by the home team; they should release that and let people see exactly what happened.
From what I've read it wasn't so much 3-pointers. The opposing coach said that most of the second half was "a layup drill." Pressing defense, steal at half court, break down for a layup.Quote:

I'm pretty much a competitive person, by the way, but when I'm playing almost any game or sport against someone who I can obviously beat easily, I ease up. Yeah, I don't like to make people feel bad. So go ahead and deride me as "PC." And tell me that "there's nothing Christlike" in my attitude. Of course that might convince me that your knowledge of Jesus came from watching the characters with that name on South Park and Family Guy, but I wouldn't tell you that I felt that way because doing so wouldn't be PC. ;)
It really is no different then the kid who got a whole little league team disbanded for being so good....we are encouraging our kids to be mediocre....
When I was a kid we were taught to be good sports, shake hands win or lose, give a complement....move on.....
Now you have to make sure everyone sucks before people are happy.

Nowhere does it say how many points you are to score in a basketball game...but there is a great deal said about how you are to conduct your life in a Christ-like manner. (Shame it's such a "PC" lesson...)
Regardless, even if these were non-Christian teams, pasting a team 100-0 doesn't prove anything. You're not teaching the value of athletic prowess, you're not showing a single thing about how "good" you are. Think of it this way: what if you were a scout for a college? If you saw that game, would you look at the players on the winning team and think that they were worth a scholarship?
There is no way in Hell the coach should have been fired...absolutely ridiculous. Unless he did something egregious that we just haven't heard about, I don't see how in the world this is a fire-able offense.
Of course, we all know how this story plays out...within 2 weeks the coach will be starting up a lawsuit against the local district school board for improper dismissal.
