nah pretty much all st on that already :D I get very little back due to messing with my exemptions... I keep track all year and when I need $... I boost it to 5+ exemptions... makes taxes REALLY easy to figure out since ive already got just about all the math done :D

I dont do roto... I prefer Head to Head. its weekly and the season ends in august. the playoffs are 1 week each (for 2 weeks) and the WS is 2 weeks of stats. If we have 8 people ill go with this for rosters
Quote:
C 2
1B 1
2B 1
SS 1
MI 1 (middle infielder)
3B 1
CI 1 (corner infielder)
OF 4
2 utility
SP 2
RP 2
P 3
and 7 bench players which can be pitcher or hitters.
Defense doesn't matter.
Stats are
AVG
HR
Runs
RBI
SB
Wins
ERA
K's
Saves
WHIP
thats 28 players.
and an 11th stat or maybe if we decide on 3 more. the more the better but not stuff like VORP and that kind of stuff... it has to be a relativly traditional stat... maybe OBP or something like that.
Or something close to that.

Re: getting close to that time
The draft will be a snake draft as well just to let you know... who ever picks last picks 1st in teh 2nd round and so on. Just remember... the 1st pick is not always the best :D

I dont like more than 10 teams only because it waters down the talent a TON with so many player on each roster... i mean does someone really want to have to go with Castillo at 2B or varitek at catcher ???

12 teams is the standard league...at least in roto...I've never played H2H so it might have a different standard, I don't know.

yea its a little diffrent. I have seen 4 and 6 team league before but thats way too few. we all had like 35 or 40 man rosters in the 4 team lol. 8-10 is good... i mean if it came down to not having enought for 8-10 and more would join if it was 12 I guess that works but 12 is the absolute immovable limit.
You know u want to try it Houson...

head to head is my team stats agains your team stats... like 3 card poker or blackjack (you agains the dealer) where Roto is a constant change... you stats change every night based on your team. if there are 10 teams you are ranked 1-10 in each stat. so if you have say the most HR you get 10 points in that stat. it changes every day and continues all year long. in head to head you are agains 1 player that week and you wnat more HR agains him. you get 1 point or a "win" the team at the end of the season with the most "wins" is top in the league then you have playoffs much like football with the 2 best getting a bye and the #3 playing #6 and #4 against #5. then its like football.
each "game is 1 week then you go on the the next opponant.

Re: getting close to that time
In head to head there are more stratagies I have always felt. you can try and dominate certain catagorys like say HR, RBI and hope the team you play against is more balances so you can steal those catagories easily... or be well balalnced and try to beat them 10-0 or something like that. just watch out because even if after say 4 weeks you are up by 20 wins... the bottom guy can catch up VERY fast with a great week. you can also add and drop people all the time (their is waivers), but you cant say drop santana to try and help someone. you can trade at any time but I think we will set it up with a 2-3 day hold on the trade so people can vote if its fair which is REALLY easy. you can add and drop at any time.
this stuff mostly counts towards all fantasy stuff btw. there is no $$$ involved so if u want and can get manny, texeria, santana, jeter all on 1 team and $ wont matter.

Re: getting close to that time
So i'd say this is probaly the top 5 in most drafts
1.Albert Pujols
2.Alex Rodriguez
3.Johan Santanna
4.Han-Ram
5.Mark Teixria
Ours
1.John Maine (Metsguy)
2.Jamey Carrol (RSR)
3.Matt Holiday (RF4E)
4.Albert Pujols (ME)
5.Ryan Braun
:D

Re: getting close to that time
I like
1)Hanley
2)A-Rod
3)Pujols.
Its just so hard to get he stats Hanley puts up at that position. I gove arod the edge ONLY because he will get u a few SB's which can sometimes help. those 3 are interchangable tho :D to ME... a pitcher in the 1st round is CRAZY unless ly list is off the board and someone like santna or webb is on the board at the end of the 2nd round top of the 3rd... im not goin for it... I usualy start in the 3rd or 4th... but I have seen guys start with 2 dominant pitcher in teh 1st 3 rounds nad do very well... I have my secrets :D

Re: getting close to that time
Are there any more spots? If so, I'm in. If not, that's fine. If there is room, PM me the necessary info.
The only suggestion I would make IF I am in the league is to put a cap on the number of transactions you can do. If roto..have a max number of moves to make for the year. If H2H, make a cap of 7 moves per week/matchup. This prevents some people from just constantly dropping/adding pitchers just to rack up wins and strikeouts and all that. More long term strategy...b/c once playoff time comes in a H2H league..it comes down to pure luck of who can add the better crappy pitchers the quickest...it gets lame.
-
Re: getting close to that time
I agree with Koop...you need a cap on weekly moves or it becomes more about who can get to the waiver wire fastest than who has the best team.
Anyway, I'm interested.
What's your actual scoring system going to be, by the way? What's worth what?

The "consensus" top 5, at least in roto, right now, are Pujols, A-Rod, Hanley, Jose Reyes, and David Wright, in some order.

I actually LIKE that, in roto at least (I've never played h2h as I said above). For one, it rewards people that pay attention to the league. For two, I like the strategy involved in identifying such "crappy pitchers" and getting the benefit out of them. I'm one of the most active when it comes to "transactions" in my fantasy leagues. In my 4 leagues last year:
League 1 - 52 moves, 6th out of 11 teams
League 2 - 74 moves, 2nd out of 12 teams. In this league, I missed the draft so my team was auto-picked. Of the 21 players, only 2 were the same between my drafted players and final roster (Jon Lester and Javier Vazquez).
League 3 - This league prevented ANY transactions. It was strictly "play what you draft."
League 4 - 103 moves, 1st of 12 teams.

Ill join if theres still spots

I think the cap is much more effective and relevant for H2H leagues. No limit on the cap makes the playoffs a huge crapshoot.
In roto, I still think a cap is a good idea..but I think it should be a pretty lenient one..enough to allow you to make plenty of transactions..just not to the effect of having six starting pitchers literally every single day.

Re: getting close to that time
Hey I wouldn't pick Holliday, It'd be Tulo

I think the way to combat that is not a transaction limit, but an innings limit. Most leagues DO have a playing time limit for every position, not just pitchers. For each field position, its a 162 game limit. Once you accumulate 162 games of stats at the position, the stats stop counting towards your score. There's a corresponding innings limit for pitchers. Every league I've ever played in has had that, except for one custom league.

Innings limits are a must, I quite agree.
I do a LOT of transactions...pretty much every football team I've ever run in a fantasy league averages 3-5 moves a week. My baseball teams last year were more than that. Still, though, if it's all about head to head scoring, it's going to get downright stupid if every damn night everyone needs to log in and swap out a quarter of the roster to keep players in who are playing that night (believe me, I HAVE seen uncapped leagues get that ridiculous).

For rotos, sure, but for H2H, I don't think I've ever seen a max on innings for a week or matchup.

that 10 :D
as far as caps... i dont like position caps but for pitchers the caps there will be a cap. we can discuss it wen the time comes. I have been in a head to head where every day 1 guy added and dropped 5 pitchers. he won K's saves, and wins every week it was dumb. I also think we should put a 7 day wait in waiver claims. that makes it so you CAN'T drop a guy and pick him up on the waiver wire before his next start.
the fantasy baseball is not available yet in Yahoo but I have the link in my sig to this thread so as soon as its available I will pm all of you
