Varitek (& others) arbitration...
I would absolutely pay for and love to hear a "clemons'esk" type phone call between Tek & Boras as they discuss this boneheaded offseason. Did Boras 'really' fu(k up this bad, or did Tek make the call himself? If Tek decided to reject arbitration, did Boras & Co fully explain the consequences? Rumor on Boston radio today was that Tek didn't know any team signing him would have to give a draft pick in addition to the contract. Quite the drama.
Others who made dumb choices include Ben Sheets, Jon Garland, and I believe Orlando Cabrera. Supposedly they won't make near what they could have had they accepted arbitration.
Re: Varitek (& others) arbitration...
I don't think it's a mistake or "dumb" of the players. They misjudged the market, that's all. EVERYBODY did.

lol...if Tek & Boras thought they'd get more than 11 per for a 37yr old (or about) catcher who hit .217 (or about) last year AND someone would give a draft pick, than yes they are dumb. It's not a misjudgement of the market, its a poor judgement period.
