It's not strictly plate discipline. It's NOT MAKING OUTS, which, yes, is the most important facet of hitting.

As Joe Morgan might say "To win a game of baseball, you have to score more runs then your opponents. You do this by not getting out, and scoring runs. If you score less runs, and don't get on base, you might not win."

And contact covers that... If you get alot of hits, you don't make alot of outs

Contact does not cover that, because there is more to not making outs than contact.
Juan Pierre is a good contact hitter, but makes a ton of outs. Adam Dunn is not a good contact hitter, but is very good at not making outs.
You saying Jim Edmonds and Steve Finley have similar batting averages completely ignores that Edmonds has a big advantage in on-base percentage, which is a huge part of the reason why he's so much better than Finley.

No, it only covers a small part. Walking is WAAAAAY more important then you think. Considering nobody argrees with you, you should realize that you have it wrong.

You mean Pierre doesn't make many outs, and Dunn does.

Dunn makes loads of outs WTF. He has had over 160 strikeouts several seasons, bats like .250 every year...

Wow man. Just wow.
There are more types of outs than strikeouts, and batting average measures how often you get a hit, not how often you get out.
Are you purposefully being stupid here, or what?

Look at On Base percentage. It combines hitting for average and walking. It will show you how important walking is. Dunn has a MUCH higher OBP, which produces more runs. Peirre does not walk much, negating his scoring value.
Re: Are there more current/unelected HOF'ers
Pierre: 22 BBs in 2008
Dunn: 122 BBs in 2008

You do not know Metsguy then. Read his rant against players over 35, it is very infamous

You said Dunn doesn't make many outs. And he does. He gets at least 160 strikeouts a year, only gets a hit 1/4 of the time

Dunn strikes out a lot. He does not make many outs.
Once again, there are more types of outs than strikeouts, and batting average does not measure how often you make outs.
