they are the unlikely heros of this free agent class this year, sort of like the giants
Hahahahaahahahahahahahahahahaaha
It also appears to be a major league contract...I can see signing him to a minor league deal, but...I dunno...best of luck
i think this could be a surpise deal. Pavano COULD do it again like he did in 04. wish i knew the dollar amount of this deal.
no no - the indians signed him, not the yankees
I loved the factoid I posted sometime ago which went something like this;
Carl Pavano holds the alltime winning percentage of 100%, with his 2-0 record for pitchers who are pitching on 425 day rest. :D:D
** the days are probably inaccurate as I can't recall precisely what it was, but you get the gist.
It's one year, $1.5 million, and an additional $5.3 million in incentives that begin to kick in with 18 starts and 130 innings pitched.
Ugh. Fantastic. Mark DeRosa and Carl Pavano...what a frigging wonderful offseason. Let the push for mediocrity begin!
i think these could all be positive deals as well wood, for shapirio and the indians. They seem to be low risk, other then the wood deal. but that is only two years. I see the indians along with LaPorta being pretty good pretty soon.
He has averaged less than 50 innings a year for the last 3 seasons, with an ERA at 5.00. At 33 years old, I wouldn't expect a million dollars worth of pitching from him this year, but who knows?
Indians could have some serious starting pitching issues next year. Lee is going to regress, it's just a matter of how much (though he could still be a good pitcher), Carmona and Sowers and Laffey looks questionable at very best (their K/BB ratios look pretty bad, especially Carmona)..I'm not sure where they are going to find anyone else to start from. Reyes is another huge question mark....15 Ks/12 BBs in his short stint with the Indians last year.....could be a rough year for Cleveland in terms of starting pitching.
Then again...a lot of guys could bounce back/improve and post good numbers unexpectedly..you never really know.
