To be quite honest, I don't know if bleacherreport.com is the most reputable source in the world
it may not be, but there was some MLB.com report on the giants website to the same effect yesterday.
I hope they don't do this.
Its going to stunt the growth of Shierholtz and Lewis. Hopefully its just to drive the price up for the Dodgers.
It isn't. I pretty much stick only to mlbtraderumors.com for hot stove information. They're very careful about the wording they use and about using a variety of sources to confirm information. They're generally the most accurate, and they "break" (by pointing out the first correct, breaking source) 95% of all the important free agent news before any other site.
Speaking of, mlbtraderumors.com has been on top of this Manny/Giant thing for days, and the 4 year offer is widely disputed by most media covering it. This is actually somewhat old news, and seemingly incorrect news.
From what I understand, the Giants and Manny have been talking, but no concrete offer has been made, and there are plenty of stipulations involved (trading Winn, Roberts or Rowand, for one). And even if a deal *has* been offered, there's more rumors about the Giants offering a 3 year deal than rumors about the Giants offering a 4 year deal.
I'm thinking, either Sabean takes a different approach to big free agents than other GMs (possibly being more active in talks, and more open about information surrounding talks), or it's a Boras trick to get the Dodgers to up their ante.
I think there's about 5 or so teams interested in Manny, with the Dodgers being (by far) the most likely to land him.
I also predict that Adam Dunn will sign within 3 days of Manny signing with a team.
giants are really shelly out the cash lately....it is a very expensive place to live though
Why would a football team want manny... oh... n/m
I'm pretty sure this is the same report that denied itself.
Shortly thereafter,Quote:
The San Francisco Giants are pursuing free-agent slugger Manny Ramirez and have offered him a four-year deal, a well-connected source told CBS 5
Quote:
A team spokesperson told CBS 5, "it's not happening."
regarding the hot stove, i've basically decided that any Jon Heyman reports are to be completely overlooked and dismissed by me. The guy was obnoxious during the Texeira games, completely overreported and his information was almost always wrong. The guys had me rolling my eyes in the past but this was the last straw.
Is this article written by the son of Danny DeVito?
This would be an idiotic move. They still don't have the pieces to go around him, and nobody knows if Johnson has another season. They would only be throwing away money. Oh well, better here than in New York...
I always laugh at these statements. Small markets that try to compete to the best of their ability and maintain a fan interest by signing vets are mocked because they 'waste' money and have no legitimate shot....while when they DON'T spend any money and save it for when their prospects develop and they are legitimate contenders (if that happens) they are mocked because they aren't trying.
Kudos to the Giants if they do this.
They are not, but they have stupid contracts. Rowand. Zito. Winn. Add Manny in, and you have another old guy on the downside of his career, and it will likely be around $23 Million, That over 4 years, and then all of the other contracts= A LOT of aging guys locked up for a while.
