Hearing this makes me sad, but I do understand that family comes first, and it should be with anybody. The game of football would really miss him if he chose to retire. He is too young to go, like Cowher.

I think you do not know enough about Dungy and the impact he has on players to make a statement like that. It is well known, if you know your football, that his players are about as close to being his family as a coach can get, which is credited to his enormous success.Quote:

My point was simply that anyone thats followed football for the last few years, know that Dungy has had this dilema.
I do not think he motivation are "Favre-ian" , who seems more like he just can't leave being the center of attention. But Dungy seems truely torn between his desire to move on and do other things with his life, and his respect for the players he coaches and the team he is employed by.

The NFL doesn't work like that. Definitely a selfish play, but only because he thought too much of his own ability.
I have the utmost respect for Tony Dungy. I personally feel that if he does have serious doubts about whether or not he should keep coaching, maybe that's a sign he should step aside for awhile at least. You cannot 'half ass' coaching a professional sports team and have it work, and if you have doubts you probably aren't 100% committing yourself to coaching.
