I'd like to see the Yankees sign Lowe and Manny. That would just about complete the job, methinks.
Why not? Maybe they can then purchase a small island nation where they can set up a genetic engineering lab to give their players wings.
It will be bigger than the CC deal. :p
It would definitely help, but I think their pitching rotation should be good enough.
Yeh, they need someone to take Burnett's spot for the 15+ starts he'll be missing next year
that article is from this morning, on ESPN they have since announced that they were not close...it will be interesting which will turn out to be right, if I were the yanks and the mets offered 80 mill I would offer 90, if nothing else to drive up the price on the mets and if I get him I can tell petite to go screw himself r take what we offered him...
There's been no word of any remotely serious talks between the Yankees and Lowe, though. The Yankees really would be much better signing Pettitte to a one year deal than grabbing Lowe at this stage.
I never said their was word that the yankees were seriously considering lowe, merely that they should be.
A Petite:
*ERA+ WHIP Year
112 1.229 2004
177 1.03 2005
106 1.437 2006
110 1.426 2007
98 1.412 2008
D Lowe:
*ERA+ WHIP Year
114 1.252 2005
124 1.266 2006
118 1.269 2007
131 1.133 2008
Lowe's likely not going to repeat that performance in the AL East.
"There's a groundball up the middle...base hit."..."Ground ball... past a diving Cano." "Ground ball... just out of the reach of Derek Jeter."
Tex is great defensively, but even he can't make up for the "Keystone Cops" up the middle and the third baseman who's afraid of popups.
Why Not
I think the Yankees should hire the top 3 free agents at each position, buy the Marlins and Royals, and create their own league with just them and the Red Sox. The Red Sox can have the Rays and the Brewers. That way they can have their own Farm System, and I won't have to watch them buy championships or hear the aforementioned smaller clubs cry about it.
Let me ask a question: if the Yankees don't make the playoffs this upcoming season, will you guys continue to whine about them "buying Championships"?
Yes, the Statute of Limitations on the previous three purchases hasn't ran out yet.
To be more accurate, I am sick of hearing about the Yankees and the Red Sox in general. I live in the south and I see more Yankee/Red Sox games than I do Braves games. I am not a Braves fan, but they are only 2 hours away. ESPN has a lot to do with it. They are infatuated with those two teams. God forbid Brett Favre should join one of them. They would have to change their name to ESPNYB.
I only jumped on the Yankees excessive spending because I am warming up for the regular season.
Why should any fan ?
The point is what the Yankees did this off season made sense for them but at the same time didn't for the the other 29 teams. What is certain the additions of AJ/CC & Tex AT THIS POINT IN TIME changes the Yankees from 3rd place in the East to AL East favourites.
Thus from that point of view it can be deemed,& rightly so,that the Yankees are 'trying to buy' a 21st century Championship - which has eluded them.;)
I don't think the greedy b*stards should pursue anybody
Uh? Should the Yankees care if it makes sense for the other 29 teams? Simply put, **** no. The Yankees should do whatever they can to win. Just like every other team should do.
Yeah. Damn those greedy b*stards, always wanting to win and crap. Screw 'em.Quote:
