OMG, I am so happy. We got the two top free agents of 2008-2009 offseason, and atleast 3 of the top 10 free agents this year(pending on where you rank Burnett among this year's free agent class)

This just in, breaking news! Early reports indicate that Mark Teixeira had a sausage mcmuffin for breakfast, and he's considering going for a jog before lunchtime!

I am thoroughly surprised...the Yanks, outspending? Wow. Crazy.
I'm very happy their half-billion dollars of free agent signings will guarantee them third place in the AL East. :)

Re: Yanks get Mark Teixeira

Re: Yanks get Mark Teixeira
They're still under last year's payroll though, aren't they? With all the money that came off the books?

Please tell me what the Red Sox have over the Yankees? Starting pitching? No. Bullpen? No. Offense? No. The only thing they still have over the Yankees is defense
And at this point I'd put the Yankees above the Rays.

Re: Yanks get Mark Teixeira
I dunno...subtract the big contracts of Giambi, Abreu, Pavano, Mussina....and add in Cc, AJ, Tex. Plus what arb will cost for Nady, Bruney, etc. I-rod is gone, too, I guess. Maybe it equals out?

Re: Yanks get Mark Teixeira
I'm sick of the Yankees... it's so pathetic how they try to buy the World Series every year... for shame

I'm going to laugh even harder when you finish 3rd in the AL East in 2009. :D

Not unlike how the Mets try to buy a championship for the last 5+ years, right? The METS have bought many players
Martinez
Wagner
Beltran
Rodriguez
Santana(his extension)

You do realize that we are ahead of the Red Sox, and probably past the Rays as well, right?
We may have finished third last year, but atleast we didn't fold like a chair for two straight years in September

Because they don't run their ballclub the same way the league shop-vac down in the Bronx does.

Because the Angels aren't a top flight organization, apparently. They'll pay for Tori Hunter and Gary Mathews Jr., but not the guy that made them the favorites to win the WS last year (Tex).

Re: Yanks get Mark Teixeira
What the Red Sox have over the Yankees?
An actual team that likes playing together.
What the Rays have over the Yankees?
An actual team that likes to play together, not a bunch of overpaid free agents who may or may not actually play good in New York, considering things don't always work out in New York like they are supposed to.

Re: Yanks get Mark Teixeira
lol at this whole thread. So much for trying to cut spending, huh?
It's hilarious how all the Yankee fans fail to realize, or choose to ignore, that the whole reason they haven't won a World Series since 2000 is because all they ever do lately is throw money around like it's nothing and they don't churn out their own talent like they did when they were at their peak. Aside from Cano and Wang I can't think of two players the Yankees have produced (and kept) in the past five or so years that has been anywhere close to All-Star caliber, and don't even say Melky Cabrera belongs in that discussion.
At any rate, you know there's no way the Red Sox don't make some type of move to try and match the Yankees on this one. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to put a package together for Prince Fielder, or anyone similar that may become available.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way, Yankees still aren't better than the Red Sox or Rays now, although they're probably just as good. All the teams are roughly equal in just about every facet of the game.

This is the first year in a while where you can really say that they're trying to "buy a championship." Please find me one other year where they shelled out this much money for the top free agents on the market. PLEASE. Back up these statements.

Excellent signing. I thought the Yankees needed Tex more than any other free agent, because he is an upgrade on both sides of the coin, at the plate and in the field, and a steady first basemen is something they've lacked.

Spending ridiculous amounts of money on Hunter and Matthews might be the reason why they can't sign Tex. Who knows.

Hm. Maybe I missed it, but when were the Yankees not an "actual team", and where is this evidence that they don't like playing together?

Mets folded in both of the last two seasons

Oh, I figure that this move will make the Red Sox counter by trading some of their top prospects for a bat. Bye Lars and Clay.
