Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
Contract agreement expected to be announced on Tuesday
WTF!!!
where the hell did this come from... it better not mean Escobar is on the way our for anyone for Oswalt, Grenkie, or Peavy!!!
Unless he really does agree to go to 2nd and we trade johnson or trade Diaz and put johnson back in LF. That could be interesting...
#1 Furcal 2B
#2 Escobar SS
#3 Johnson LF
#4 Jones 3B
#5 Mccann C
#6 Kochman 1B
#7 Francouer RF/CF
#8 RF/CF??? Maybe in house could be Blanco at CF???
Thats a LOT of speed and 3 good OBP guys at the top.
Id like a Power hitting guy to slide between Jones and Mccann. lol can manny play center HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
Good, he was popular in Atlanta. Yea, i hope they don't trade Yunel, but depending on what they get, it could be worth it.

Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
Escobar to the Royals with who for Grenkie... They don't need OF's and our catching prospect is gone...
Maybe Morton/campillo + boyer???
doenst seem great on the Royals pary tho they are getting a VERY good player in Escobar.
-
Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
What would the Royals do with Aviles though? Move him to 2nd base?

2nd base is Aviles more natural position. He's viewed as a 2B first within the organization.

Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
lol id rather trade johnson tho he is an ok #3 hitter

I don't think the Braves will be willing to offer enough to get Greinke. The asking price seems to be Escobar + three good or better prospects.
Campillo and Boyer...I don't think so. Reyes and Escobar would be the two mandatory demands from our GM, I believe. Throw in a good OF prospect and another good prospect...that's what Dayton will probably want. I know that seems high...but that's how high we are on Greinke. He has two seasons left of being under control for cheap......that's a pretty big factor....as well as the fact that Greinke is right on the cusp of being one of the top pitchers in the game and has a clean medical history and outstanding mechanics.

Believe it or not, there are some concerns that Hanson's stuff won't play up as well at the MLB level. Don't know how valid of a concern that might be, but I'd be willing to bet that DM would take that into consideration and would still ask for a little more in return for Zack.

I believe you Mean Physical medical history because he does/did have mental issues which caused the Royals to demote and then DL him some time back

Yes, that is what I meant. He's a different person now than he was 2-3 years ago, so I don't think that should be a concern anymore, but it is still there.

Yunel Escobar is good. I don't know if I'd call him an AS shortstop...at least not yet. The Royals are very interested in him for a reason though.
I think it would be Escobar, Reyes, OF prospect, and one more pitching prospect...probably a high upside A-ball arm. That'd be my best guess on what DM would consider fair value.

Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
i figured u guys wouldnt want an of prospect. how about Blanco, Reyes, Escobar, and a non Hanson pitcher.. id do it

Furcal agrees to terms with Braves
Quote:
Where Furcal would be positioned defensively remains to be seen. But the Braves have no intention to trade either Johnson or Escobar. Instead, they are planning to move Johnson back to left field, a position he played before moving to second base before the start of the 2007 season.
The opportunity to have both Furcal and Johnson in their lineup proved more appealing to the Braves than any of the options they were evaluating in their search to find a power-hitting outfielder.
hmmm... sounds like I may actualy have been right... that doesnt happen often

Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
3 yrs 30 million with dodgers! it was just on ESPNEWS
-
Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
SI.com says the same thing now. Ouch... the Braves have been turned down twice already this offseason now (Burnett and Furcal). Who's next to break their hearts?
-
Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
As a Dodger fan all I can say is "HA HA".
And if Raef is injured as much the next three years as he was the last three years, you can "HA HA" me right back
-
Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
So the Dodgers stole Furcal from the Braves...twice?

thats too bad, who is more to blame, the agents or Furcal?
-
Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
Ah...
Things don't look so bleak after all for the Dodgers in '09.
Now there's only 14 other FAs to replace.

Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
It was definitley cheap what the agents did, but it wasn't against any rules. It's a business, there job is to give there client the best deal possible. Obviously Furcal wanted a 3 year deal, and they used that offer the Braves gave them against them and showed it to the Dodgers, then the Dodgers matched there offer. They did something that was really cheap, but legal.

Re: Furcal on verge of signing with Braves
I think what it comes down to is that Furcal would rather be in Los Angeles than in Atlanta. I can't speak for him, but God knows I'd take Los Angeles over Atlanta any day of the week in terms of the city itself. But aside from that, the Dodgers are more likely to be winners (as the Braves have been unable to land Peavy, or any other players), he has already "been there, done that," and I bet this decision came down to him and not his agents.
