Schoeneweis to Arizona...
for Connor Robertson
I don't get it...

Re: Schoeneweis to Arizona...
Omar helped our bullpen so much, and then he does this? WTF?

Re: Schoeneweis to Arizona...

Re: Schoeneweis to Arizona...
Ouch this will hurt the bullpen really bad............ or not. He was good last year, but his career ERA is near 5, so I don't trust him.

Re: Schoeneweis to Arizona...
You absolutely cannot judge a lefty specialist by his ERA. Schoeneweis is a below average reliever, relatively old, and making money. Robertson is younger, and cheap. It's a salary dump, pure and simple. Plus, the Mets have a better lefty in Feliciano.

1) WTF is a lefty specialist?
2) 3.35 ERA is below average?

A left-handed reliever used primarily to get left-handed batters out.

Then why did we trade Scotty Schoenweis for him?

Re: Schoeneweis to Arizona...
because it saved u 2 million
Code:
3 years/$10.8M (2007-09)
signed by Mets as a free agent 1/07
07:$3.6M, 08:$3.6M, 09:$3.6M
acquired by Arizona in trade from NY Mets 12/12/08, with Mets paying $1.6M of Schoeneweis' $3.6M salary for 2009

A lefty specialist is a left handed pitcher, usually one who throws pretty hard, who will come out to get one or two lefties out. And with lefty specialists, you can not judge them by their ERA. This is because they throw so few innings, that the sample size is simply to small. Connor Robertson is a younger, cheaper reliever then Schoweinsis who is also better at this stage.

Re: Schoeneweis to Arizona...
And as Houston said, Feliciano can do the exact same thing Schoeneweis did, but better.

Connor Robertson will not be in the Mets bullpen. The Mets have no chance at winning anything next year if he is in our bullpen.

Re: Schoeneweis to Arizona...

This post shows how uneducated you are about baseball. Wow, he was a crappy lefty specialist, it will not make a difference.

He wasn't crappy. He had a 3.35 ERA. Robertson will not put up a better ERA then that, his ERA will be like 6

That was ONE season, and he threw only a few innings. If anything, I would say the two are probably very simular, with the advantage going to Robertson for being younger. If I were you, i would stop now, though it is amusing watching you make a total fool of yourself.

Scott has putt up a career ERA of 4.91 in 934 innings, Last year had a 5.03 ERA, in 06 had a 4.88 ERA, 04 a 5.59 ERA. Now, do you still think he is key to the Mets?

He was and is crappy, and you're probably right that Robertson won't be any better.

There is no one player bad enough to completely destroy a team's chances of winning. And if there was, it certainly wouldn't be a middle reliever.

It's more than just the innings. It's the way lefty specialists are used, primarily throwing to one or two batters at a time. ERA is very flawed for relievers. The biggest flaw is that doesn't account for inherited runners that they let score. The stat Fair Run Average does. Schoeneweis's FRA was 4.93 last year.
This was a simple, inconsequential salary dump. It doesn't improve the Mets. It doesn't make them worse. You're overreacting.

Wow. This is a huge, huge exaggeration. Schoeneweis was NOT worth "a few wins". The best set-up men are worth "a few wins."

Mr. Maddux was twenty-one at that time.
Robertson is twenty-seven.

You're exactly right in your evaluation of Robertson. He's not likely to be anything at all. His upside is an average middle reliever.
You're completely off on your evaluation of Schoeneweis, and thus, this trade, though.

Who says everyone will perform the same this year? David Wright will likely be better, and K-Rod and Putz will make MUCH more of an impact then Scott.

Whatever, now I know there's one Met I won't be cheering for.

He's unlikely to even pitch more than a handful of innings for the big league team. Stop acting as if they're going to use him all year as their top reliever.
