i like that paper because its funny but I hate to say it...
If you believe anything out of that rag you are CRAZY
OUCH! Mr. Perfect isn't going to like this at all. I hope he doesn't end up committing suicide over C.C. not becoming a Giant.
I'll believe it when its a signed done deal.
and i guess this helps the Braves a LITTLE...
now the Yanks dont have to push QUITE has hard for burnett. tho they will still be after him
Word is that the deal is basically done.
Yanks are going to win the World Series. It's all over now.
Yahoo reported yesterday that he was asking lifestyle questions about NYC. He wanted to make sure the schools would be good for his kids, since whereever he signed he was going to be there for a few years.
Yeh, I haven't seen specific language yet (heck, it's probably not written yet), but supposedly CC's got the right to opt out of the contract after a few years. This, reportedly, was specifically because of concerns he had related to playing in NY.
(Even if he leaves early, he still departs with a tidy $69 mil. Not a bad take for an experience he'd ultimately file under "It Didn't Work Out".)
I am not a Yankees fan, I was hoping he would sign somewhere else, anywhere else.
I thought CC would be one of the few players to actually take less money to play where he wants to. Its too bad, I honestly dont think he can handle the New York pressure.
Yes!!!! Oh baby!!!
Too bad, it would have realy meant a lot if he had worked something out with a West Coast team, and rebuffed the Yanks' offer. But, then, if he wasn't about the money, he might've tried to re-sign with Cleveland or Milwaukee. Too bad. Wonder what all the Dodgers rumor stuff was then?
I'm now hoping he fades a little, or at least is as hittable as he was in the 2007 ALCS...:)
Why?
He had 4 bad starts to start off the year. In his final 14 AL starts, he went 6-5 with a 2.16 ERA in 104.1 innings, striking out 109 batters and walking 20. His two prior years in the AL, 2006 and 2007, he threw over 400 innings of 140 ERA+ ball.
Wrong. At best, he's the best pitcher in the league. At worst, he replaces Mussina.Quote:
At best he replaces Mussina. How is that going to get them closer to the playoffs then last year?
i know the yankees had a horrible rotation last year, but i think they should be at least average this year. i personally think joba as good as cc. i know he hasn't played a lot, but when he has, he's been beyond amazing
While I respect your opinion....At worst he replaces Mussina? No, at worst he gets rear-ended in the McDonalds drive-through and deals with whiplash all year. And just an irrelevent side-note. If he has those four bad starts to start off the season this year....New York will blow up.
Okay, if you want to go into exaggeration, than at worst he suffers a heart attack immediately after being paid his signing bonus.
Obviously the worst case scenario is injury. But to say he'll at best replace Mussina is just not accurate at all. Over the last 3 years in all, Sabathia as thrown nearly 700 innings at140-150 ERA+. Mussina hasn't done that since last millenium.
His manager at Cleveland, Eric Wedge, said that CC can handle New York, he can handle anything.
I have no idea. I'll bet anything that he'll pitch better than Mussina did in 2008, though.
I don't see how the contract is relevant to whether or not he ever leads the league in innings again. He's proven to be very durable, was handled carefully as a young pitcher, and has led the league in innings the last 2 years. There's definitely a significant chance that he does it again.Quote:
Also keep in mind with that contract....no way does he lead the league in innings ever again.
Yes, Yes Oh Yes! Sweet Day in the morning! WS Here they come!
I like CC, just hope he did not make himself into an overpriced pitcher/washout.
I what counts better ? Mussina had an extremely good year good year 132 ERA+, 1.22WHIP, 5:1 K:BB, 6.8 K/9.
If Sabathia pitches the same way he has the last 3 years he will be better than Mussina was last year (though not by leaps and Bounds)
So while the Best Case will put him well ahead of what Mussina did last year, the worst case will put him far behind what Mussina did last year.
Lets settle this right now....
Best case scenario he goes 35-0 with 0 walks, 260 IP and 2340 K's
Worst case scenario he pulls a pavano
*shrug* thats best and worse get over it
i thik it could be GREAT for him if he stays vry good the next 3 years... i see an optout and another 6 year dealQuote:
10:14am: Tim Brown and Gordon Edes of Yahoo report that the deal is for $161MM over seven years (which would top Johan's average annual value).
The deal has an opt-out clause after the first three years, which are worth $69MM. The 31 year-old Sabathia will make his opt-out decision after the 2011 season with four years, $92MM remaining on the deal. He would have to buck the opt-out trend (or renegotiate) to make this more than a three-year, $69MM deal for the Yankees. That is not necessarily a bad thing for them.
And that's what any reasonable projection should expect.
Okay, yes, of course, obviously. The worst case scenario with any player will always be terrible, but I'm talking purely in reasonable projections here. While I may have overstated it, there's simply no reason to expect Sabathia to be worse than Mussina was, and it's still inaccurate to say that the BEST CASE scenario is Mussina's 2008, considering Sabathia's surpassed that in each of the last 3 seasons.Quote:
So while the Best Case will put him well ahead of what Mussina did last year, the worst case will put him far behind what Mussina did last year.
I forgot about CC's hitting ability. Another reason this deal is too bad; less CC homers this year. Oh well.
LOL this won't happen... dude won't pass the physical
I think he'll do fine. I also think the Red Sox are about to offer up their own little suprise in a few days by Signing Texiera.
