Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
Kris Benson could be an average SP if he is healthy this year. Also if he were to sign with the Dodgers, the Dodgers have a big ballpark which will help him out. I also imagine it would be a really small, maybe incentive type deal.
-
Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
New Rumor came in, and it's a pretty big one. The Royals and Braves are discussing a deal that would send Jeff Francouer to the Royals in exchange for Zach Grienke.
-
Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
Think that's dumb for the Royals. A rebuilding team should hold on to whatever quality pitching they have
As for Benson, did the dude throw any pitches in the last two years? I can't find him anywhere.
EDIT: He did 56 innings for the AAA IronPigs.

not sure how to feel about that
francouer = Grienke ???
after relativly not so careful review I do it... yes I would.... not wure why the Royals would do it aside from $$$.
my only fear is Jeff bounces to the .290-.300 30+ HR 110+ RBI Machine, that we DESPERATLY need so badly

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
The more i think about it... the more I say BYE BYE Francouer.
we can always get a bat...
hitting wins games... pitching win championships.
maybe thats why there were looking into hart more??? (I think it was hart that can play RF) I tell you who I would LOVE to see in RF for 2 years.... Abreu. the PERCECT guy to hit in fron of Chipper in the #3 spot. I know chipper hats to hit 4th but that OBP of Abreu would be GREAT.
Escobar SS
Blanco CF
Abreu RF
Chipper 3B
Mccan (unless we get a big bat in CF/LF)
Kochman 1B
Diaz LF
Johnson 2B
I think I can live with that.
starting rotation
Greinke
Burnett
Vazquez
Smoltz
Jair
I can suddenly live with that.... I can live with that a lot :p
week offensivly but then again... in 1995... were we knocking the cover off the ball???

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
Sounds like the Twins are shopping around Delmon Young, which I'm not really in agreement with. Phillies and Rockies are the main possibilities. Phillies deal would include SS prospect Jason Donald + a reliever. And as for Jack Wilson, God I hope he doesn't become a Twin. I'd rather have Nick Punto there instead of giving up prospects + huge salary for Wilson.

I really hope they trade him and get something good out of it.

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
I hope you guys don't think that the rumor is Francouer for Greinke straight up........that would be batshit insane for the Royals to do. Throw in about three good prospects and it's more reasonable.

I agree... I hope this trade doesn't go through, especially because of what Delmon could develop into within a few years. The "rumored" trades they're considering aren't that exciting.
-
Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
I dint think it would be straight up but if its say low level pitcher I can see it hapening. btw lest add another guy who doesnt walk to the Royals lol

Exactly. He's only 23. Sure, he hasn't put up the numbers that match what he was hyped up to do, but the only way to go for him is up. There are actually rumors now that he may be going BACK to Tampa Bay!

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
Gerald Laird was traded to Detriot to start there, so that shifts the Red Sox cathcer situation a little. They could still get Teagarden or Salty... The Rockies are reportedly interested in Jason marquis, who I fear would do awful in Coors, seeing as he really is not good in any way to start.

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
More Rumors:
10:36am: Phil Rogers says the key to this potential four-team Peavy trade would be the Phillies or Orioles taking on Marquis and some of his contract. Rogers says "it will be a stunner if the Cubs don’t acquire Peavy."
SI.com's Jon Heyman says Brian Cashman hopes to meet with A.J. Burnett's agent Darek Braunecker today. The Yankees are expected to top Atlanta's four-year, $60MM plus a vesting option bid. The Braves seem willing to counter, though.
11:16am: SI.com's Jon Heyman says the Mets, Angels, Dodgers, and Royals inquired on Young. He says the Rangers are not shopping Young but will listen. The Mets might have to move Luis Castillo before they could slot Young in at second base.
11:22am: Jon Paul Morosi of the Detroit Free Press says talks between the Ms and Tigers for Putz are ongoing.
11:04am: Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times says the Indians "are not really contenders" for Mariners closer J.J. Putz, as they'd prefer to sign a free agent. He notes lukewarm interest from St. Louis and believes the Tigers and Brewers are more serious. Baker questions whether the Tigers have the young players to get it done.
As for the Brewers, Baker speaks of a possible large multiplayer deal that's "all just a concept for now."
Jayson Stark says the Phillies, Mets, and Cubs are in the lead for Raul Ibanez, with the Braves and Angels on the periphery.

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2

It's gonna be a lot more than that. Whatever you were giving up for Peavy...that's pretty close to what it's going to take to get Greinke.
Royals don't just let FAs walk anymore. We locked up Soria and DDJ and it'll probably happen with Gordon and Greinke too. We're not a penny-pinching franchise anymore.

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
unfortunatly they are still bottom dwellers however. i dont think it would take anything CLOSE to peavy deal and would not be happy if they gave up that much

The Royals are getting better. They had a better record than your Braves last year in a much tougher league and just got done outspending everyone else in baseball in the draft....with an increasing payroll. The Royals aren't bottom feeders anymore. They probably aren't contenders next year, but they've shown steady improvement each of the past three years and will do so again next year while building up the farm system. Far from a perfect organization...but far from the joke they were five years ago.
That's all beside the point. It will take a huge package to get Greinke. Francouer and one low level pitcher isn't even close. Greinke is almost an ace. Clean mechanics, extremely durable, great control, lots of Ks, under control for two more seasons for cheap......already two damn good seasons under his belt as a 24 year old pitching in the AL....it's gonna take a lot to get him.

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
Mariners are interested in Junior, the New GM has had talks with the Agent of Griffey yesterday...

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
Oh god please don't get another C, we have CDI and he is good.
For any rumors I'd go here: mlbtraderumors.com
EDIT: Rockies are about to sign Alan Embree

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
Tons of people are interested in Aaron Heilman (no idea why), I've been hearing things like Sonnastine or Shields for Heilman, Huston Street for Heilman, Jason Marquis for Heilman...

Francoeur-Greinke Rumor Shot Down
By Tim Dierkes [December 9 at 3:05pm CST]
3:05pm: As expected, Dayton Moore shot this down.
1:38pm: ESPN's Steve Phillips says there's nothing to this rumor.
9:01am: From: Tony Massarotti of the Boston Globe:
According to one National League executive, the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves have had serious discussions about a trade that would send outfielder Jeff Francouer to the Royals for pitcher Zack Greinke. The same source said he believed the teams were close to executing the deal, but that Atlanta was holding up any and all trade discussions until the Braves had a resolution of their pursuit of right-hander A.J. Burnett.
I'd be surprised to see this happen without the Braves adding significant pitching to their offer for Greinke. But in general I am skeptical that anything like this is close, even given the Burnett contingency. We probably would've heard some rumbling from Dave O'Brien, Mark Bowman, Bob Dutton, or Dick Kaegel.

WOW! There's a credible source!
The only rumor that you mentioned with any credibility is Marquis for Heilman (and that's indeed the only one of them I've actually heard). Dan O'Dowd (Rockies GM) or Andrew Friedman (Rays GM) would likely suffer an aneurysm just from the mere request of Heilman for one of Sonnanstine/Shields/Street...Shields in particular.
There IS interest in Heilman because prior to this last year, he was a solid middle reliever/set up guy. Don't for a second get your hopes up of getting more than a bad contract/similar player/mid-level prospect (one of those, not all 3) for him.

"The Mets and Tampa Bay have had preliminary discussions about the Rays' pitching depth, notably Nos. 4 and 5 starters Andy Sonnanstine and Edwin Jackson."
"The Rays do not believe the Mets have the pieces necessary to pry one of the four starters projected to front Tampa's rotation in 2009: Scott Kazmir (remember him, Mets?), James Shields, Matt Garza and David Price."
"Tampa continues to have interest in Aaron Heilman, but not to the extent it had in the past"

Re: Winter Meetings Rumors: Day 1 and 2
I doubt we will go for Heilman because we are about to sign Embree

It likely won't matter. Embree fills a lefty specialist slot. Heilman's role is different.
