No idea, unless you posted your MOG file.
A couple of average relievers, maybe get you an average starter
Here's the mog.
To twins GM: Im assuming the braves are in contention in this trade (if not then a resounding no), but do they really give up a potential ace for a #5 thats easy enough to come by? the 1B you are offering looks like a solid bench guy or fill in and maybe starter on some teams but not much more. I dont do it if im the braves. Maybe if im getting a guy like belcher thats got a proven track record of decent seasons and is sure to give me good innings in maybe #3 or #4 spot since those are going to be used in the NLCS and WS, but for a #5 that i wont even need in the playoffs? If i need a #5 just to get me in the postseason then obviously my chances arent that great enough to risk giving up a future ace. My answer is no.
Well stats wise if I were the Yankees I would say keep that career 6.23 ERA away from our team. We're look for a replacement somewhere else. Especially if our back up SP happen to be as affective as Marquez
Just a quick question about trades. Is it wrong to put a player on the trading block to see what you can get in cash for him before you determine to trade him?
You can do whatever you want.
Determining a player's cash value is one way to gauge (trade) interest, but it's not always accurate, because the team that might want to acquire your player the most or have the biggest need for him might not have enough (or the most) cash.
I understand it's a way to gauge interest. I was only asking because that's how I trade my stars to make room for rising players in the minors. For example, 1964 LA Angels dynasty. I signed a power hitting LF ovr 84 to an insane salary. The problem is I let the AI sort my roster and since he was my 2nd highest LF he was on the bench/platooning. I placed the starter on trading block for cash. The highest offer was for approximentally 4 times his yearly salary. Offer 483,000/player's salary 119,000. I then in the trade screen put in players to even out the trade. I got a pitcher to fill a bullpen need and a promising CF, I think 2 low end prospects also and some cash.
Second trade made at trade deadline. I traded Luis Aparicio ovr 88 to make room for Jim Fregosi ovr 89. I trade blocked for cash, some insane $ amount came up. I was mainly looking for a second baseman so I chose the team with the highest offer and went from there. I got an 84 ovr 2b and a pitching prospect and some small amount in cash.
Before you say I stripped the other teams involved in either trade, both players that I traded were at the beginning of their peak runs, they probably have 2-3 great years before any declines start. I did not get the players I originally wanted. One had a notrade clause and did not want to go to my team, and the other player the team wanted my closer and backup 1b, they also wanted $100,000. Normally I would not have cared but my bullpen was already suspect and going from an ok, at best, closer to a below average at best closer would have killed any chance I may have for the season. Granted I am like 10 games out in 4th place.
I know a real opinion can't be formed without the player cards of those involved, and I will post them later, probably wednesday, if anyone wants to see them to rate the trades.
What I'm doing:
I went through 2008 in as commissioner and pretty much policed the league to happen as realistically as possible, all trades etc are accurate. Holliday is an A. I picked the team with the worst record, the Washington Nationals only won 60 games. And made myself their GM in the offseason. I made a few arbitration deals, made two trades (wish I had known this was up before hand, but I'll go with it as is for now) and signed a few free agents that met specific criteras to be allowed to be signed. I won't trade for or sign any free agents that under their personality they are not at least a B minus. As far as trades go, they have to be approved by someone on here for me to be allowed to do it. So rather then me limiting the number of deals I can make in a season I will just post them on here for everyone else to rate.
The trades I already made:
I got Jarrod Saltalmachia from Texas for a boatload of players, no cash exchanged.
I got Gio Gonzalez and Seth Smith for even more and actually gave up some starters for them, but I don't remember who. I am playing in day by day games.
My GM goals: Have a well diversified team, I want speed off the bench, I want lefty vs rightie matchups available off my benches and bullpen and I want some prospects.
I have tuned the game to offer some talented amatuer drafts. As well the promotion of minor leaguers more quickly.
The big change I made, was I went through to each team, found the highest rated player on that team and changed their contracts to be signed for ten years. and gave them full no trade clauses. This was to keep me from trading for any "franchise" players. for some teams this was a bigger benefit then others. Florida keeps hanley at a decent contract for a long time, while Atlanta will have an aging Chipper Jones on their hands. I figure it's just the nature of the beast and only my team did not get that franchise tag.
I want my team to have depth and realistic balance. If anyone else has good rules to impose on myself, I will enjoy hearing about them, so plan to hear from me on here more! thanks!
ok trade situation:
I need more speed of my bench as well I need a swith hitting middle infielder.
I am offering Ian Desmond: He is rated a 73 SS that is 23 years old, he bats right handed his contact is 70, pwr, 65, spd, 84, arm 85, range 92, fielding 67.
the trade is with the Angels; I want P.J. Phillips, a 22 year old shortstop rated a 64. The reason I want him is that his speed is a 95 and his defense is a little better. His hitting is poor, but since he is young I feel it will improve, however, I don't believe Desmond's speed will improve. As well I want the switch hitter capability.
Do you approve?
also, both players aren't arb ready until 2011, it's currently 2009
and when I select balance cash, nothing comes up
and my other trade is:
Aaron Hill (84) 2B
Clint Barnes (81) SS
and Ryan Church (84) LF
for:
Brandon Phillips (84) 2B
and the Reds first draft pick in the next draft
I would be unloading some salary with this as well.
Hill is expected 10 mil a year for four years
Barnes 4,250,000 for four years
and Church 7,000,000 a year for three years
and I would be getting Phillips who is due 6,750,000 over three years.
This fills some of the Reds needs: Their current outfield is two outfielders rated 82 and 84 and the last one is 75 (left field where Church plays). As well we would be swapping second basement, and their current shortstop is rated 78, and Barnes is obviously better.
Would you do it if you were the Reds?
The reds have the 14th overall draft pick
The Reds do have the 15 million a year in their budget
What are the ages, payroll budget/current payroll for the reds, and what was the reds record last year and current?
Basically it depends on whether or not the reds are in re-building mode. If they are sniffing the postseason then id say yes,its a good trade for them contingent upon finances which you have yet to detail. If the were 10+ games out last year and arent looking so hot this year then i probably say no, not in their best interest. Talent is easy to match its the circumstances in which the AI doesnt consider often and you must do that for them in your trades involving the AI.
I agree. If the Reds are in re-building mode and one of the worst teams in the league, I would not give up the first round draft pick (especially if it was one of the top 5). And if they're rebuilding or completely out of it, I highly doubt they would want to take on your additional salaries unless you took MORE off of THEIR hands (and without taking players as good as Brandom Phillips). If they're contending, that's another story.
Here's an idea for this thread?
1. I saw we are required to input certain and specific information that each person deems expected in knowledge for a trade to be made. Let's say, I want to know, their rating, salary due, defensive ratings, offensive numbers, what the team you are trading with's numbers, needs and if they have replacement prospects coming up. What kind of mode are they in? Rebuilding etc. this way we do not have to input our mog. files, rather a checklist of what everyone wants and expects to see.
2. Obviously, since you can make the trade on your own regardless then we can not inforce this, but let's say, a committee of three people have to agree? or maybe two? and by when you have to have the responses?
Just some ideas, I really like this, preferrably I would rather do a league where there were 29 other managers and we all had a comissioner and some sub committee members and could play through seasons and seasons. But I am not sure how that would work, especially since I do not know anything about the leagues people are in on here, but that is what I would like, but this is fun either way.
So what do you guys think? some specific rules of what you need to put in here for the moves to be allowed to be made? someone want to post their expectations and we go from there?
If you want to do that, you can. Uploading the MOG file is easier and faster than typing all of that out. There are always things to find in the MOG file that you don't want to spend the time listing out in the thread. That's what we always ask for anyway.
For example, you offer me a trade for a player that you want. Maybe I don't like the players you're offering or the salary that you want me to take on, so I would at least "shop" that player around the league to see if I could get a better offer than what you offered me. That's something that the human GM will consider before accepting your trade... at least I would.
Well, that's what Baseball Mogul Online did, but that's ending on December 1st.
No idea... it wasn't economically feasible for Clay to continue. Here's the forum, and the thread is stickied at the top.
You guys should check out Baseball Mogul: Leagues
I actually ran a league that went belly up because of certain uncontrollable factors. They are very fun but they must be VERY well run. It became too much for me to handle on my own anyway, if i had more help it would have been a great league.:(
Also im all for the checklist. Maybe someone should draw up a checklist and we'll sticky it as the first post as a template.
alright here is what I want to know in order to approve of a trade:
Player name
rating
salary
current contract length
age
B/T
the team you are trading to:
what are their current needs from looking at their roster
what is their payrool
do they have anyone coming up i.e. prospect to handle that position?
i.e. you are trading them a thirdbasemen, but they have one in triple a that could start next year for them
a sentence how this trade can benefit the other team
what the other teams record was in the past two seasons, and their current record
good points
I'd just post the MOG. By the time you type all of that out and I take the time to read it, I could glance over the MOG file and figure it out much faster.
It's just like uploading a typical file to a thread/post. Locate the MOG file in your BBM 2009 folder (it's named whatever you saved your sim as) and attach it to your post. To view somebody's, you download it and save it to the same folder, and then when you start BBM, it'll appear just like a saved sim.
Trade approval (or denial) requested
**Spoiler Alert**
If you are following my Nationals Dynasty and don't want to peek into the future. Don't read this
I am the Washington Nationals, Texas is controlled by the AI.
The Texas Rangers offered me the following trade
SP James McDonald and SP Matt Harrison
for
3B Ryan Zimmerman
Reasons why I think the trade would work for Texas:
Texas is 1.5 games out of the wild card
Texas could use a right-handed bat in the middle of the order
Their usual starting 3B is Deibinson Romero-an excellent defensive player with a weak bat
Texas has insane starting pitching depth (3 90+ rated starters, 1 85+ rated starter, 4 80+ rated starters, more prospects on the way; all in addition to McDonald and Harrison)
McDonald is eligible for arbitration after the season
Reasons why I don't think the trade would work for Texas:
Just signed 3B Hank Blaylock to a 4 year extension-he usually DH's
McDonald has been Texas' best starter the last three years.
Zimmerman's contract expires after this year so they would either lose him after the season of sign him to a hefty extension
That's the basics...the link to the .mog can be found in THIS POST.
Thank you in advance for your thoughtful opinions and discussion
Spoiler Alert
If you're reading my National's Dynasty proceed with caution.
Two different scenarios to consider. Both involving CF Elijah Dukes (86 overall) to Oakland for starting pitching
Last year Dukes hit: .253/.328/.438 OPS .766 in 149 games in left and center.
He's a plus defender in left (his original position) but a below average defender in center (now that the AI made him a CFer. Before he was a CFer he was a good defensive CFer. See here
Unchanged Oakland would use Dukes as the DH.
If I restore him to his previous abilities in LF and CF then Oakland would use him in left and make Cunningham the DH, pushing Daric Barton to the bench.
1) Dukes for SP Wade Miley (83 overall)
Miley is a young lefty. Miley pitched in 24 games-17 starts last season going 132.1 innings with a 3.47 ERA and 3.26 dice. It was his first season in the big leagues. He has 160 days of service time-meaning 3 years left before he reaches arbitration. He's listed as Oakland's #4 starter.
2) Dukes for SP Trevor Cahill (83 overall) and RP Matt Lindstrom (75 overall)
Cahill is a 24 year old righty who has 107 big league innings. 40 games with 5 starts. ERA of 7.38 and DICE of 4.97. He has 1 year and 45 days of service time. Oakland has him in AAA and risks losing him in the Rule V Draft has he will turn 25 on March 1st, the day that I hold the draft.
Lindstrom is a throw-away reliever. He has 100 mogul innings pitched and an ERA around 5. He has one year and $1.2 million left on his contract.
I look forward to hearing anyone's thoughtful opinions on these trades.
