Suggestion for PBP game start-up

One small thing I'd like to see as a PBP player, is that on the start of a game when you're picking your line-up, I wish you could pull up the Scouting on the opposing pitcher. You get your Batter vs. Pitcher stats for the year, which can be helpful if you've faced him before, but often I want to check the pitcher's full stats and you're not able to (as far as I'm aware, at least until your line-up is fixed and the game starts). Is he a control pitcher and thus should I put in the contact hitters rather than the guys who tend to draw walks, etc.? It probably sounds petty but it would help me optimize the line-up sometimes.

No...agreed, I've thought the same thing.

If the guy is a curve ball specialist and one of my guys can't hit a curve I'd like to have that info at my finger tips

Make the Pitcher's name clickable so it brings up a scouting report would be awesome.

Yeah, that would be nice, and easy to implement.

I mean a real manager would look at the opposing pitcher's scouting report before filling out his line up card, right?

I don't understand...all that you need to do (in BM2008, anyway, I can't imagine that 09 offers less), is just rest-don't click; twiddle; fidget; or anything- your cursor, on the upcoming fixture,as shown on your calendar, and the name of the opposing pitcher will appear in that long blue-hued box in the bottom RH corner of the calendar.

All that you have to do then is to click on his team (via scrolling the line-up
box, or going to the "standings" tables), and you can study that pitcher's stats to your hearts content, long before you start your game against him

Yes Rongar, you can. And that's what we all do. But we'd like to be able to access the info WHILE making out the lineup.

I mean we COULD figure out Batting Average, ERA, On Base Percentage, HB/9IP, strike % by using our calculator/abacus/fingers but it's sure nice to have the program assisting us

I'm sorry, I don't understand this collective beef, at all...I, myself, play PBP a lot, and can recall few problems in sussing the opposing pitcher, beforehand.

I seldom bother, now, preferring to assess the merits of my own guys, hoping to select a line-up that could trump any ace up the opponents' sleeve.

They just want the information there on the lineup dialog... If you forget to look before hand, or forget the particulars of the pitcher by the time you get to the game day lineup screen, information on the opposing pitcher isn't available until after you set your lineup.

You're correct that you can scout the opposing pitcher and line-up prior to starting any game, but as was pointed out, sometimes you don't want your "-20 Slider" batter up against a guy with a 97-rated Slider. Plus, the pitchers shown on the Calendar are always the "Projected" starters, and sometimes this isn't who you wind up facing. I don't have a big problem with this overall, it's just a minor irritant it seems like it might be very easy to fix, and I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way.

Now this is a "peeve" of mine that 97-rated SLIDER is misleading,IMO.It actually means that he throws a lot of sliders & it is his "best/consistent" pitch NOT that is rated 97.

The Pitch Ratings IMO are contradictory to the other ratings which are COMPARATIVES to other players at that position,whereas PS are comparative ONLY to the pitcher's pitches.Thus the Batters' actual ineffectiveness is less than that -20 (if my understanding of PS is correct)

If possible I would like to see the actual QUALITY of his pitch compared to other pitchers (maybe in parenthesis) or if not CHANGING the actual system to what we have for the other ratings.

For Example Joe Bloggs has now 97 Slider 65 Fastball but IRL he is 120th best RP & his 'real' ratings would be (hypothetically) 76 Slider 50 Fastball Like the 85 Overall of a 1B etc etc.

True, pitch ratings are not comparable to other ratings. Maybe those should be changed to A, B, C, D, F, in order to make that distinction more clear?
