Re: Nationals get Willingham and Olsen from Florida
I really like this trade for Washington but... what's Florida doing? Where's Bonifacio going to play? Third base?
Re: Nationals get Willingham and Olsen from Florida
Terrible trade for FLA... In the NL Olson is a legit #4 or so on a good team, plus he is still young, and I have his ceiling as a solid #3 starter that regularly puts up a high 3 ERA and pitches 200 innings.
Re: Nationals get Willingham and Olsen from Florida
Plus... Ya know the kid could possibly have personal issues if when you google his name it brings up mugshots...

Florida doesn't operate like most teams, thanks to their owner. They operate under an idea of "try to field the best possible time with the least amount of money."
Bonifacio could still use some time in the minors. Plus, he profiles better as a utility infielder than can play the outfield in a pinch than a true starter. If they are viewing him as a starter, they have two options - move Uggla to third base, or trade him.

I've heard rumors of Cantu moving to 1st base or 2nd base and either:
A. Trading Uggla
B. Moving Uggla to 1st or 3rd.

Cantu moving to 2nd would be a defensive disaster. He's pretty poor at third base too, so first base is best suited for him. I'd go with an infield of Cantu-Bonifacio-Ramirez-Uggla if I was Florida, but I think Uggla's likely to be moved.

Cantu is pretty much a defensive disaster anywhere on the field... At least @ 1B you can mask his poor defense some. Uggla will be getting paid soon, so I think he'll definitely be traded if not this off season, than by mid season.
From what I understand, this is what the Marlins are projected to be next season shall everything they currently have is still here by the off season:
1B: Cantu
2B: Uggla
3B: McPherson
SS: Hanley
LF: Ross
CF: Maybin
RF: Hermida
Re: Nationals get Willingham and Olsen from Florida
Uggla, Ramirez, Cantu, Ross, Nolasco and Lindstrom are going to provide some MASSIVE returns for this team between now and January 2010.
Prediction: Marlins win the WS in 2015 and 2016.

I actually see them holding onto Hanley for a little while since he's signed long term.

Trade's been made official.

I see him there for one more season, two seasons tops. This team could and should compete for the NL East next season, but if they find themselves buried in 3rd or 4th place in July and someone needs a SS, he's packing his bags the minute a good offer comes along.
If I were the Dodgers and I managed to sign CC or AJ, I'd be on the phone with Miami every day trying to give them Kershaw for Ramirez.
Kershaw and Hu for Ramirez and Lindstrom. There's a trade I'd love to see.
Re: Nationals get Willingham and Olsen from Florida
It would take much more than Kershaw for Ramirez. Five years from now, or ten years from now, maybe it would be closer, but Kershaw hasn't even pitched a full season in the Major Leagues yet, so he's still not a sure thing.
Re: Nationals get Willingham and Olsen from Florida
Hughes, Kennedy, Horne, and A-Jax for Hanley (plug him in CF for the next decade) - Make it happen Cash!
Re: Nationals get Willingham and Olsen from Florida
I wouldn't make that trade either if I was the Marlins... last year, maybe, but this year Hughes and Kennedy's respective value is way down from last year. Too early to tell on how they'll turn out, but I wouldn't take the chance if I was a GM. Then again, after trading Willingham and Olsen for arguably (much) less than they could have gotten from other teams (trading them together or separately), they probably would make that trade.

It would take some extras. A couple of minor leaguers.
When have the Marlins ever cared how many seasons anyone has played? Except when it comes to arbitration and anything else that's money-related...
