Uh, yeah. C.C.'s better right now and had a better year.
How about this though:
C.C - 28, fat, $20+ million per year, 6+ year commitment
Cain - 24, good pitcher's build, untapped potential, signed through 2011 at ridiculously cheap prices

I have been watching Cain pitch since his 1st ML start and I dont think he really has gotten better, he may get better eventually, but he is the trade bait if they want to get a slugger. Not saying its what I would do, but its just the truth. He is on the block, period.
Because, as I said, Sabean isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
There are no available sluggers for which trading Matt Cain for would be a good deal.

No matter what, they're rebuilding and are going to go through some rough years, on the field, and in the stands.
Instead of sinking another crapload of money into a free agent pitcher, they really should use a portion of what they'd give to Sabathia and sign Lincecum to a long-term deal. My money is on Lincecum outperforming Sabathia over the total of the next 6 years.

Exactly... in no alternate universe is C.C. Sabathia worth over $20,000,000 more than Matt Cain (likely how much more he'll be making than Cain, at the very least).

Exactly who I was thinking about (signing Lincecum long-term).
Re: Buster says watch out for Giants
Remember that rumor last offseason that a trade was being seriously considered to send Lincecum to Toronto for Alex Rios?
The fact that Sabean even paid more than a split-second of attention to that offer is evidence that he doesn't exactly have his head on straight.

The Giants were 11th in attendance in 2008, and that's without the Barry Bonds attraction. I'm not sure why you think they should focus on "drawing a crowd." They should focus on building a winning team, because winning is the best way to draw a crowd.
What available slugger do you think trading Matt Cain, a 24 year old pitcher that has thrown 650+ innings with a 118 ERA+ and still has a ton of potential and room for improvement, for would result in a net benefit for the future?
If they could get Teixeira(howeva u spell it) then that would be great but they arent.
And I wouldnt trade Matt Cain, but they are going to. He is on the block, they are trying to get Prince Fielder. Im not saying I like it, Im just stating the facts here sir.
If I was GM, I dunno exactly what I would do, thats why I play Baseball Mogul.
I just know that I know a whole lot of people here in the bay and we all want CC. Call it dumb or whatever, but he wants to come here and the organization wants him. So Im just one of the many dummies in the case then.

Because they're focusing on getting Sabathia, not because they can't get Teixeira. I've seen nothing at all to indicate that they have any more of a chance of signing C.C. than they do Tex, except for the fact that they just don't seem interested in Tex.

Again, how sure of you that he WILL be traded? All I've heard about it are unsubstantiated rumors, nothing remotely imminent.
If I was an owner and my GM traded Matt Cain for Prince Fielder, I'd fire him immediately.

No, you're not a dummy. Any fan would want C.C. Sabathia on their team. He's a great pitcher. But what the team should do is different from what the fans want, like it or not. The team has to balance near-term performance with long-term viability. Fans tend to want instant gratification and that's not stupid or wrong or whatever...it's the nature of being a fan...but they should recognize that the team has to consider many other factors than just pure winning in the short term.
Re: Buster says watch out for Giants
Well I really have no idea why Mark Tex is not being discussed, but he isnt. So I assumed he just wasnt interested in coming here.
And yea I Prince Fielder had 1 stupendous year, but I would want alot more for Matt Cain.
And yea maybe they do need to do a whole lot of other little things to the team besides signing CC Sabathia, but Brian Sabean scares me and if he doesnt sign CC I have a feeling he will just make a few other stupid signings that will piss off the fans even more and make the team even more crappy.
Furcal, Renteria, Dunn??? Scary

I hope they dont do that. Another scary one

Yeah, I can certainly understand worrying maybe he'd go sign a bunch of other guys that make even less sense. Hopefully he has some common sense as a GM.
And like Houston said, I CERTIANLY understand why fans like yourself would want CC...the guy is a workhorse ace-type pitcher. I just don't see how it makes a lot of sense, though, to spend that kind of money on one guy, which is going to increase expectations (big free agent signings ALWAYS increase expectations for a team) that the rest of the roster isn't ready to reach.
Re: Buster says watch out for Giants
Mr. Perfect by no means speaks for all of us Giants fans. I for one do not want them to sign Sabathia. If they are going to spend that kind of money then they need to sign Texiera.
CC isn't going to bring me to the park, but Cain and Lincecum will.

I wasnt talking for every Giant fan, Just everyone Ive talked to. I am not a season ticket holder so a Matt Cain start will not sell a ticket to me. Lincecum yes. Sabathia, I may dig into savings. Maybe the idea of having a guy who is from the same area as me and my team play for us AND WANT TO PLAY HERE over LA and NY appeals to me. And i have said if they COULD sign Teixeira I would back it 100% since he plays everyday, but . . . they arent. I havent heard any talk of that being possible. Sabean seems to want Orlando Hudson and Rafael Furcal. So with that being said Sir Artic Blast just commented, them signing a bunch of other guys who probably wont make any impact at all is not something that will make me anymore juiced about next year
Re: Buster says watch out for Giants
I gotta jump in on this. First of all, if I was the Giants, I wouldn't go after CC. The Giants should use the money towards re-signing Cain, and Lincecum. But if the Giants were to get CC, I wouldn't trade Cain, Lincecum at all. Instead, I would dream of a rotation of Sabathia-Lincecum-Cain-Sanchez-Zito, yes they don't have an offense, but then they were to sign someone like Renteria and Hudson, there offense gets better. The Giants rotation would be one of the best, if not the best, if they did sign CC which is why I think Saben might go for it.
Re: Buster says watch out for Giants
I could get on board with signing EITHER Hudson OR Furcal, but not with shelling out for both of them (which probably means just Hudson. He's a nice player, and I think he'd sign for less than Furcal, who could have more suitors as the one 'big' shortstop available).
Re: Buster says watch out for Giants
If they signed both that would almost certainly mean little to no playing time for Burriss, which is not at all what I want to see. We actually have some home grown players trying to break through here, I'd like to see them have a fair shot rather than keep em down with FA. Thats also why I prefer Cain to CC, I want to see the home grown talent.
Re: Buster says watch out for Giants
Home grown talent hardly equals success - CC does.

Really? C.C. guarantees that the Giants will succeed?
