Boras is a brilliant man who is extremely dedicated to his work and being the best at what he does. His job is to get his clients the best deal possible...and he's the best at doing it. You can not like his tactics or ethics...but you have to respect and applaud his accomplishments. It's brilliant. Boras is throwing out these massive numbers so that, when Manny signs for less, he looks like a 'good guy' and like someone who 'gave the team a deal'.
you KNOW the teams want Manny, you KNOW that Manny is a brilliant hitter, you KNOW all of the teams in the league right now can benefit from having Manny in their roster, and you have seen what Manny's done in LA. This is typical Boras, he knows all these and knows that power is on his side right now. He won't get the contract he is asking for right now, no way, but this is his way of getting his players' contracts higher than what it should be, in other words, he's a master at getting his clients overpaid.
