Just heard this on ESPN that Allan Iverson is getting traded to the Pistons for Billups and McDyess.

very interesting trade...if one believes billups is a bit banged up and spent its good for Detriot. if one believes otherwise, its a very bad trade IMO.

Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
Nice trade by the Nuggets. They need D.
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
The Nuggets get a point who can play D and runs a great offense (also a hometown boy) and a power forward who is still productive.
AI is good, he can hit shots which is good for the Pistons.
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
McDyess has said that he want to stay in Detroit. So he may be released.
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
That's true.
If he does stick around I think the Nuggets will be better this year.
But they won't be able to keep very many of these guys around and stay under the luxury tax.
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
The only reason McDyess was added was to even out Iverson's contract. So you can say he helped the team this year.
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
Interesting trade, in that it sort of works for both teams. Detroit unloads some longer term deals (and still might get McDyess back for one year), and with Iverson up at the end of the year (as well as Rasheed Wallace), they can go full rebuild after the year if they want to. Denver gets a legit point guard, and gets rid of the situation they were in with 2 guys (AI and Carmelo Anthony) who both want to shoot every time they have the ball.

Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
Now Denver gets a degrading Billups for three years and about $50 mil
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
However, he IS a better point guard than Iverson, and they still have a primary scorer in Anthony.
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
Billups will run a great offense and JR Smith can take over full shooting guard options after Iverson's departure.
Smith and Billups are both great defenders and Smith CAN score as much as AI.
The Nuggets are better this year.

Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
I can't be the only one that thinks this is an absolutely terrible deal for the Pistons.
I know Billups is getting old and very expensive, but if they had any chance of contention this season it just went right out the window.
This trade would be like the Colts trading Peyton Manning, in my opinion.

Assuming that Jim Sorgi = Rodney Stuckey, which is not the case. Stuckey is a young version of Billups who will break out in another year or 2. Solid trade for Detroit if they properly spend the money that the trade will free up for them later.

You are NOT talking about J.R. Smith, right?
J.R. Smith is a TERRIBLE defender - one of the worse in the NBA... Karl has benched him SO MANY times because of his terrible defense. Though, he has the ability to score 20 ppg.
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
I read a Yahoo! article today discussing J.R. Smith's size defensive ability compared to Iverson's and how much better it was.
J.R. has the ABILITY to play great D. He just is J.R. Smith and doesn't use it. That's why Karl benches him.

I almost agree, but it wasn't terrible. As a Nuggets fan, this is great, Billups is clearly better NOW, and AI is just, bad. But, keep in mind, he did bad in Denver becuase he and Melo always fought for the spotlight.

Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
Now I can't watch ESPN for days, because they are obsessed with Basketball and will be reporting all about this over and over and over...

Thank you very much. That is my opinion on it. It will bring the media's attention on basketball, and non basketball fans will have tro suffer through it. The media always places basketball over other sports I have noticed. Have you guys?

Maybe you should change your name to CelticsNuggets until baseball season starts again.

Well yeah... Pretty much anyone can play solid D if they chose to (with the exceptions of the Adam Morrison's, and J.J. Reddick's out there)... It's all about effort. J.R. is a VERY athletic player, whom I've liked quite a bit since he was in HS (even though he chose not to go to UNC), and he does have the ability to play good defense, but will he put the effort into it? That's the question.

Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
That is the question. It's a huge question. But having Chauncey and JR run the backcourt allows me to watch easier then Anthony Carter.

I think this was a great deal for Detroit. It was mostly a salary dump. Iverson's contract is up at the end of the year as well as Rasheed's. Next year, you can put Stuckey to PG and Rip at SG. Then you got money left over for the flurry of free agents in 2010.
-
Re: Allan Iverson to the Pistons
Oh, don't get me I LOVE this trade for Denver. I am also a Nuggets fan (not as much as I am a Lakers or Bobcats fan, though). I love watching J.R. Smith play, and I really love watching Melo play... Watching Billups/Smith/Melo will be really exciting... a lot more exciting than AC/AI/Melo.

Agreed but Denver wasn't entirely screwed over.
They were screwed over with or without Iverson mostly lol
But they are better this year. Detroit is more set for the future.
